651.0. "Framingham- cat hit by car" by CSLALL::DALEY_PJ () Thu Nov 11 1993 10:50

I had a most unfortunate trip through Framingham last night -
around 8:50 p.m. on Union Avenue - right at the intersection of
Newton Place/Union Ave (in front of the condos on the Newton Place
side of the street) a cat ran into the street and was hit by the car
in front of me. The car didn't stop and I didn't get the plate number.
I stopped and the cat was still alive (barely). So I grabbed my
sweater and wrapped her(him?) in it and ran to the condos. I rang
the bell of a unit on the 1st floot next to the door. A woman answered
and I asked if she knew whose cat this was as it seemed to have run
from the condos. She said no - but then she said - "I think you should
know she is bleeding all over you" I replied that I knew she was and that
she was extremely injured" (Mind you - I had just come from a
fundraising event and was dressed in a very nice suit/heels so I didn't look
like a vagrant). The cat was vomiting blood. So I said "Do you have
a towel I can use" She replied "A towel - no" (in a snotty voice); so I
asked" do you have anything old I can wrap her in" She replied "I have
nothing OLD" and then she shut the door in my face.

Next I went to the home of my former high school teacher around the
corner and we called the vet. However, when I went back to check the
cat in my car, she had died. So I put her into a plastic bag, and then
in a box and brought her to the vets for disposition.

The cat of course would not know any of this dialogue... the last thing
she would have known is that she was affectionately wrapped in a warm
sweater, had a soft voice talking to her, and was placed on the carpeted
floor of a warm car. I was just appalled at the apathy the driver
showed (but maybe he didn't see the incident-I would like to think
that), but the woman was a disgusting excuse for a human being. Cold!!
Unfeeling!! She wasn't in denial of what she was seeing - she was upset
that I disturbed her evening. I never asked admittance to her home,
never asked her to make a call; asked just for an old cloth.

Thanks for listening - I needed to vent to people who would
    understand.

Your caring and thoughtfulness is touching and brought tears to my
    eyes.

Some human beings are so insensitive and *ANGRY* .... guess we'll
never understand why they behave the way they do.

Hopefully the little thing didn't suffer too much. You know in your
heart you did the best you could under such unfortunate conditions
and I applaud your courage to stop and DO something about it. I would
like to think I would do the same thing ... but with all the crazy
things happening with guns and carjackings I don't know as I would.

    Thanks for trying!

    Pat,

After reading your note I too had tears in my eyes. I can not
understand why people act the way they do....

I am sure that the little kitty knew that you were trying to help
him/her and I am sure that he/she went to heaven knowing that.

Please take care and thank you for all that you did for the little
    kitty,

    *joyce

    Pat,

Thank Heaven for caring people like you.

651.4Either you care, or you don'tREFDV1::ESULLIVANThu Nov 11 1993 15:096

Some people still don't get it. How a person treats animals is
a reflection of how they treat people. You either care, or you don't.

Pat...so sorry you had to deal with this...but thank god for
people like you. It would have been bad enough knowing the
car did not stop...but to deal with the jerk at the door....
    is truly disgusting!

I'm sure the kitty knew you were trying to help....and bless
    you for trying!

First, what you did was wonderful. Second, what comes around goes
around. Someday that lady may need an old cloth....or may be bleeding
    ...one never knows.

You did a wonderful thing. Poor kitty...
What a witch! I hope she gets hers too! I don't think I have ever had
the displeasure of knowing such a person. And I don't want to.

There's a special place in hell for people like that woman, where the
fires are bright and hot, fueled by the spirits of all the animals
who've suffered because of people like her. BTW, the fires burn
    FOREVER!

There's a special place in heaven for people who respect, care for, and
love our animal friends that we share this world with, where we are
reunited with our kitties for eternity.

I think I would have been sorely tempted to whomp that woman
over the head with the nearest heavy object. What is the
    world coming to?
