1075.0. "Emergency - Urgent help needed" by SHRMSG::DEVI (recycled stardust) Thu May 08 1997 14:05

    Just got word of an emergency situation and wondered if anyone could
    help out.

    Here's the email I received:

    >>The Vet Tech program at Mt Ida is getting ready to close its doors for
    >>the summer. They have 3 cats (about 7 months old) and 12 beagles
    >>ranging in age from 1 to 4 years old. All animals have been
    >>spayed/neutered and have all vaccinations. They will be very
    >>healthy when they are put to sleep this week.
    >>
    >>If you want one or more of these free pets -- call Tracy Blais at
    >>617 - 928-4545 very very soon. They need homes by May 9th or they're
    >>going to fur heaven.
    >>

    I'm trying to find out if I can bring the kittensto the Pat Brody
    Shelter and I've got calls and emails out to various people.

    Can anyone else help out here?

1075.1not as urgent as first reportedBGSDEV::PENDAKpicture packin' mommaThu May 08 1997 15:157
        I just phoned and got a real person (named Nancy) who said that there
        were never any plans to put these animals to sleep and she believes
        that all of the animals have been spoken for, however if you are
        interested you can put your name on a list if the adoption should
    	fall through.

1075.2update - no good newsSHRMSG::DEVIrecycled stardustThu May 08 1997 15:1825
    Well -

    Just thought I'd let you know that I've left a message on Ms. Blais'
    answering machine. She's the director of the veterinary tech program
    at this college.

    I told her that Mt. Ida is getting very bad publicity via
    email/internet and that the college should have taken the responsibity
    to have homes planned for their animals.

    I'll let you know if she gets back to me. If anyone else wants to call
    her, her number, posted in the previous note, kept giving me a busy
    signal. Call the main number (617)928-4500 and take it from there.

    I spoke to the operator and said Mt. Ida's getting bad press...It can't
    hurt.

    And thanks to everyone who has contacted me off-line and offered
    advice, monetary assistance to pay for boarding, etc..

    I've also called my vet's office and asked if they ever board kitties
    and place them. I explained the situation. The tech is going to check
    with the veterinarian and get back to me.

1075.3Hope that's true!SHRMSG::DEVIrecycled stardustThu May 08 1997 15:217
    Sandy - I hope this is true. If so - I'm sorry to have caused undue
    panic and I'll let the folks who sent me the original email know this.

    Hopefully they're not saying this to pacify folks. Maybe I'm just too
    cynical....
