981.0. "Clementine is now in "Kitty Heaven"" by PCBUOA::SJOHNSON () Wed Mar 13 1996 13:01

I first introduced our "tuxedo" cat, Clementine last May when she was
diagnosed with hyperthroidism and put on Tapazol twice a day.

Yesterday after returning from a great 4-day ski weekend, we found her
under the couch -- dead! Our cat sitter throught it strange that she
didn't appear on Monday or Tuesday to great her and get fresh food, but
our house is fairly large and the cellar door has a cat door so they
can come and go at will (and the "mousies" live in the cellar!).

We called and took her immediately to Dr. Mulcahy at Central Animal
Hospital (she had just been there last Tuesday, 3/5/96, for her
6-month blood test and checkup and was pronounced healthy). The
results of the blood work indicated that the hyperthyroidism well under
control with the current doses of Tapazol. In fact, she had actually
gained another pound since her last blood work in October.

Anyway, Clementine is now in "kitty heaven" and her "human dad", "kitty
sister", "kitty brother" and I miss her terribly already.

I'm still a little distraught as you can tell. When we took her to Dr.
Mulcahy, we intended to have her do a post-mortem on Clementine.
However, Dr. Mulcahy assured us that her poor little heart just gave
out! Cardiac arrythmias are a common result of hyperthroidism and at
age 13+, I guess she just went to sleep sometime while we were away!

I'm so sorry. What a terrible thing to come home to.

You should take some comfort that you got her hyperthyroidism
undercontrol, and as a result, you TREMENDOUSLY increased the quality
    of her life.

Did Dr. Mulcahy say what happened?

What a terrible shock. My heart goes out to you.

It's little consolation now with feelings so raw, but remember all the
good times and the knowledge you provided a loving home.

And remember, we all understand our fur friends are more than "just
pets" they are family. And you need to go through the grieving process
as much as if a human family member passed on.

    good luck and many hugs,

Nat,

My heart goes out to you, having lost my mother 1 1/2 years ago and still
missing her deeply every day. Her kitties are very lucky to have you.

Sandy,

What a horrible thing to come home to find. I'm so sorry you lost Clementine
that way.

Hugs,
Laura

My sympathies, Sandy, to you on your loss of Clementine, and to
you, Nat, on the loss of your mother. I'll bet their both keeping each
other company at the Rainbow Bridge, waiting for their respective
    families!
