935.0. "She didn't wet the sofa, she had kittens!!" by AKOCOA::NELSON () Mon Sep 25 1995 15:36

Well, it happened after all...I'm a "grandmother!" Misty, our little
stray, had kittens on Aug. 30 or 31, the day she "peed" all over the
sofa! Apparently, it wasn't urine but her water breaking. She had
two kittens, one male, the other still hard to tell. The gray and
white male, which looks exactly like his mommy except for her "white
gloves," has already been claimed by our neighbor's little boy. He
calls the kitty "Nuzzles." The black one -- and I mean we are talking
*jet* black -- my son calls it Black, I call it Inky -- is a pudgy
little fuzzball and hasn't been adopted yet. We're still trying to
    place it.

Misty apparently gave birth under the neighbor's porch, and it was our
neighbor who found mother and kittens last Wednesday night. Thursday
Mommy had to go to the vet for her checkup, and that's when my husband
went and got them and brought them into our (warm, dry) basement. So
Misty and her kittens are doing well. They are really cute, sweet
little things. They also have fleas. Can't shampoo or dip till next
week or the week after, and all cats will have to be treated, including
"Uncle" Oscar. Misty and Oscar are also being treated for ear mites,
I guess we will have to do the kittens too, once they turn six weeks
    old.

So...anyone want a healthy, smart, but shy kitten who should be ready
    to go by Halloween?

    Congratulations, Grandma.
And be careful that Halloween time with a jet black cat... You know,
    humans are lingering out there...

Oh how I wish I could afford another furface. I love black
cats. I had one a few years ago (some of you may remember
Duke), but he was a sick little boy and didn't live to see
    	the age of two.

935.3Kitties have homes. Oscar still in bad mood!AKOCOA::NELSONThu Oct 26 1995 16:2918
Well, The Year of the Cat has ended -- more or less -- at our house.
Misty's two kittnes, Pudge and Nuzzles, have gone on to families
of their own. Pudge is now living in Michigan with my husband's
younger sister and her family, and Nuzzles is next door with our son's
    best friend.

I did not think you could grow so attached to two kittens in only 8 or
9 weeks. I have never had kittens before, and I just marvel at their
distinctive little personalities, their endearing ways, they way they
play, etc. Now I know why cat owners refer to their kitties as their
"children!" Because I miss Pudge and Nuzzles almost as much as I'll
miss my own kids when they grow up and move out on their own.

Thanks to everyone who offered advice, support, homes, etc., for my
"grandkitties." Next step: getting Misty spayed. Step 2: hoping
that Oscar will quit snapping at her! Any hints for helping with this?
