832.0. "FOOD ALLERGY RASH PROBLEM" by AIMHI::OFFEN () Thu Nov 17 1994 13:04

    OK, Gang, I need your help.....

    Diamond in the Fluff, a Shaded-Silver Persian Boy has been diagnosed
    with a possible food allergy. He had been vomiting and had diarheah
    (sp) before I rescued him (he still needs a home) and also had a skin
    rash. on his back and sides. I have cleared up the diarheah and the
    vomiting (only did each once in 3-weeks) but have not managed to clear
    up the rash. It is 3 weeks and he is eating Iams Lamb and Rice dry as
    well as a *little* Triumph canned. He snubs his nose at cat food and
    would much rather eat people food. I ignore him and just give him his
    bowl and walk away. I also think that the reason he doesn't eat the
    canned is because that is what probably started his problem. He has
    had the vomiting problem for 3 years that I can see from the vet's
    record. I feel so bad for him. He will look at the food, take a bite,
    wait a few minutes to see if it will stay down, take another bite and
    repeat.... But I do know he is eating because he is starting to fill
    out.

    My problem is - I want to clear up the rash on his back. What, if any,
    have you people used with success? I am also going to the Vet's office
    Friday to see what they say as well but figured you guys/gals know all
    the answers. You've helped me with Thunder, Lightning, DejaVu, and
    Beauty to date. Now can you help me with Diamond?

832.1UPDATE ON ALLERGY RASHAIMHI::OFFENMon Nov 28 1994 12:5013
    Talked to the Vet. They did give me some Prednisolone (sp) which I
    haven't given him yet. He is keeping down the food and the rash
    *seems* a little better. I am keeping a daily check on him to see if
    the rash clears up on it's own.

    Update on feeding problem.... Diamond *DEFINITELY* cannot eat people
    food. My houseguest gave him 2 small bites of steak and poor Diamond
    was vomiting all night. He was better the next day. No people food
    for him ever again.

    Will keep you informed on his progress.
