825.0. "Safe way to get rid of mouse?" by KMOOSE::CMCCUTCHEON (The Karate Moose) Fri Nov 04 1994 20:57

One of our cats brought in a live mouse a few months back. It found it
way into the insulation around the stove, which makes a "wonderful" aroma
when we turn it on, not from the mouse itself, but from the droppings
it leaves - we replaced the insulation once when we were fooled into thinking
the mouse left somehow.

Both cats appear completely uninterested in the mouse, which has been
seen several times by us, if not the cats. I've never seen them trying
to get at the mouse.

I've tried several "safe" ways to catch the mouse:

	- plastic one-way in traps. They worked in another house I
had. Maybe this mouse is too smart?

	- Sticky stuff, kinda like flypaper, only gooey. I put in back
of the stove so the cats wouldn't get in it. Somehow the thing
can get to the peanut butter bait without getting stuck.

Any good ideas? I'm tired of the "aroma" and don't want to replace the
insulation AGAIN before the thing is gone. I'm nervous about poisons
since the packages I've read says it takes days, so the cats or my toddler
could find the mouse body before I might.

    	Charlie,

I'm not sure what the answer is to this challenge. In the HOME_WORK

notes file refer to note # 5446 I got a mouse in my house!

    	Folks are discussing this topic....

    Hi Charlie,

Take a look at note 823; there may be some ideas in there that
    could help.

Sigh. 823 is only a few notes away. I looked for "mouse" not "rat".
Guess I can clean up the plastic traps and try again.

my girlfriend heard a mouse in the ceiling, so she bought one of those
little plastic traps. That didn't work so she bought a hav-a-hart
trap for $14. So far she's caught 12!!
