756.0. "Feliners photo album?" by SALEM::SHAW () Tue May 10 1994 10:52

Speaking of pictures, in one of the other notes files, cycles, they
have a photo album that gets circulated amongst the noters with
pictures of noters and their bikes. Although in this case the human
pics is not essential, but what does everyone think of a joint
effort to put an album together with pictures of everyones kitties
and circulate it, I know we need a whole album just for Sandy. ;-)

756.1What a great idea!!EASI::GEENENIllud cape et ei fibulam adfige!Tue May 10 1994 11:197
Sounds wonderful!! Count me in. How did they do it in the bikes
conference? I guess there would have to be a central person to
organize it, and everyone would send pictures to her/him who would
assemble the album. If that's how to do it, I volunteer, although
there are probably others more qualified than me.

Yes, there is a central person that everyone can send pics too.
with a mailing list. The album can get circulated and also updated
    as it goes around.

    Shaw

I'll volunteer to do the album if you want. I've helped with the past
album for the FRIENDS file (a few years ago). I also have some
pictures from past feliners (Karen Kolling's Sweetie and Holly, Karen
Luby's (healey) T.K. and Bandit, etc.).

I have an album I can use. You can send the pictures directly to my
home address (I don't trust I-mail). Send mail for the address to send
it to. Also, send mail if you'd like to see the album once it's
finished. We can possibly try and arrange it so that people who are in
the same site might be able to get together to view the album.

First things first .. getting the pictures together. Send me mail for
an address to send them to. On each of the pictures, be sure to put
your name, nodename, and the name of the cats.

756.4Access to a scanner?ANGLIN::SHARROWIf the man wants to box, I'll out box the man...Tue May 10 1994 13:079
If someone has access to a image scanner this could become really cool.
You would send your pictures to person with the scanner, they scan them
in. They are made available electronically, so some of us poor saps in
the field (Minnesota) could also have access. I know not everyone has
access to a PC or workstation (to view the images) but I bet a lot do.

    What do you think?

    Greg
756.5AYRPLN::VENTURASo much Chocolate, such tight jeans!!Tue May 10 1994 13:306
Greg, just because you're out in Minnesota, that doesn't mean that you
wouldn't be able to see the album. In FRIENDS, our album went all over
the world, including England, Holland, and Australia.

    	Holly et al,

Just another suggestion ..... don't send an original, one-of-a-kind
photo - during one the [many] downsizing exercises the FRIENDS
    	album was lost.

Maybe two books would be helpful. It would be easier/faster to
circulate, and then maybe Carl and Holly could each create one?

    	Just my $ .02.........

re: loosing the album, Well I have the negatives, I am on my way this
evening to make extra copies to send to Holly. Just hang on to your
negatives and you won't have to worry about loosing photos. I think
once the photos are submitted for the album they should stay there,
I won't expect to see mine returned.
I am already looking forward to this, I imagine it will take a little
while to gather photos from everyone. But it will be well worth it.
It is nice to be able to imagine the real character when you read
about them, eg, Len's kids or the honorable colonel and so on.

finished product, but I'd love to show off the kitties! Rosie is
    particularly good at "posing".
756.10color copies for overseas noters..SALEM::SHAWWed May 11 1994 09:196

For those friends that are outside of the U.S. like Julie and Nat
maybe we can make color photo copies. they can be posted in a manila
    envelope.

Shaw - (pictures will be sent this weekend.)
756.11AYRPLN::VENTURASo much Chocolate, such tight jeans!!Wed May 11 1994 09:568
That's a good idea, Shaw. However, those will cost us some money. We
may have to work out something for postage anyway for people outside of
the new england area. Maybe we can work out something where if someone
wants color copies of the poster, they can send a certain amount of
money for me (or whomever) to make the copies.

    Holly

756.12JARETH::GOGOLINWed May 11 1994 11:4917
I'd like to take part in the photo album, too. One question -- how do
you know when it's "done"? I bet there would always be someone new who
would want to jump in with their pictures, which is fine. Would the
album just be circulating forever? How would you keep track of who
    had seen what?

The scanner is a neat idea. I don't know anyone who has one, though.

Would anyone be interested in swapping kitty photos? I'd love to have
pictures to look at from time to time. Also, it would be nice to have
pictures of the kitty ownees. When I had the first roll of JJ/kitten
pictures developed, I happened to catch a special on developing and
reprints at Walmart. The reprints were 10 for $1.99, very reasonable.
They came out darker than the originals, but they were acceptable, and
considering the price I couldn't complain.

    >>you know when it's "done"? I bet there would always be someone new
    >>who would want to jump in with their pictures, which is fine.

As soon as I think of one .. I'll declare a "cut-off" date. Probably
the middle of June ... that will give people plenty of time to get
their pictures to me so we can get this going.

    >>Would the album just be circulating forever?

After it's gone to everyone who wants to see it, I'll have it sent
back to me. Maybe I can just hold it for a while, and then when we
get some new feliners (or additions to present FELINERS families),
we can have them send in photos and we can circulate the album again.

    >>How would you keep track of who had seen what?

I'll just keep a list of people who want to see the album .. and
basically keep track of who has it when. If someone gives it to
someone else to see, they'll have to send me mail telling me. Then
I'll just "check them off" on my list.

For example. You're in ZKO, right? Well, if I sent it to you, and
then you gave it to someone else in ZKO, or had lunch with someone and
looked at it together, I'd like you to send me mail telling me where
the album is. I'll keep track of it that way. Then, I'll either have
the person send it back to me, or to the next person on the list.

If Holly keeps updated as to who has it and who is next in line,
then I quess the person that has it will just send it to the next
    one in line.
There are a few feliners at my site, so I can share it with them
and then kick it off. Since an album can hold many pictures; Len,
    don't hold back ;-)
For whatever it's worth for those of you sharp shooters in the area,
WallMart's one hour service is only $7.58 or something like that for
    a 24 exposure and around $9.00 for 36 exposures.

I just got a suggestion ... I'm going to put extra blank pages in the
back of the photo album. For those of you who don't hit the cut-off
date .. when you get the album, you can add in your pictures.

Now let's see... that's three pages for sandy .. three pages for Len
    ... four pages for Karen F. ...

Count me in. I sent pix already to Karen, I have more. Where to?

And the idea with the color copy is great, too. And I would suggest a
whole electronically published version, which can be kept and updated
on a node, downloadable to anyone who has a PC (I have one) in .GIF
format. Even single catpix.gif files would be great in a [...CATS...]
library somewhere. The two versions could be managed also separately.
The one on paper as decided, the one as a gifs lib somewhere. Just my 2
cents, and count me full in!

	I 4th (after .4, .12, .22) the motion for an electronic version.
This allows everyone to view new photos at electronic speed
simultaneously. Of course a physical version can still be

Opps, sorry to confuse. She only had the one accident that
brought her to our attention. The picture is one that my
brother took of her when she was just a stray that visited
	him periodically.

Mittens herself is doing great and only has a very slight limp
when she walks (what's very noticable is that when she sits she
usually leaves that leg hanging over the edge of the sofa, etc).
She was also spayed about a month ago. I believe she now weighs

It was a Bank holiday in the UK yesterday, so we took the opportunity
to photograph the cats. The pictures are currently being developed.

Rosie was in one of her unco-operative moods, though. We wanted her to
lie on her back - she obligingly rolled around in the biggest pile of
dirt she could find, then lay with her back to the camera (we were in
the garden). We have some very good shots of her tail, too...

    Holly,

I want to take some up-to-date shots of the menagerie, which is why I haven't
sent you any pix yet !!! Will try to get some film this week and send off.
If not, will add to the album when it gets to me, so put me on the
   circulation list !

    Hi,

I wonder what the status of the felines photo collection is at this
moment. Although I realize that the album most probally will never
reach Holland, I like to show around with Leeroy, my British Blue cat.

Can anyone let me know it there is a possbility to sent in a picture of
    him?

BTW. It would have been nice idea to set up a Feline Web Server
(Digital only ofcourse), with the scanned pictures of the cats.

Great Idea, Donald! And if it is done, please please give some hints
how to use such a resource for those people who never used Web before!
Exactly how and what to have, and what to do.

Re: .-1

Before you setup a Web server for the photo's, someone needs to
implement the previous suggestions about digitizing (ie. scanning)
	in the photo's.

Once the photo's are on line, in GIF format, then to setup a
Web page for them you'd simply have to copy the GIF files to
an anonymous ftp server somewhere, then setup a Web page to
	link to them.

However no one ever scanned the pictures in .... (because like
me, no one here has access to a scanner and/or software)

FYI, the feline album is almost completed. I've printed the little
labels identifying each cat, and I just have to put them in place. It
should be done this weekend (sorry it took so long folks, I've been
aufully busy and have had a very sick husband on top of it all). But
never fear, it's finally done. Please, anyone who's interested in
seeing the album, send me mail so I can add you to the list. If you
haven't gotten your pictures in, you can still send them to me until
this friday and I'll put them in. Send me mail to let me know that
they're on the way. Or, when you get the album, you can just add in
    your pictures.

If anyone wants to see a .gif of the Fraser cats, see the file
at smurf::gifs:3cats.gif. C.C., who died last February, is on
the left, Jenny in the center and Tas on the right. I think
bruno.gif and penny.gif are still there - another noter's cats.

I am wondering where the feline alburm is at this point? I tried
leaving a couple of messages in the appropriate file and also sent a
note offline, but have not received an answer. The last note in the
original file was in 1994 and it said it was almost complete. Does
    anyone have any info?

    Thanks,

And with two years gone by, it probably needs to be updated - I don't
think it includes (Pretty Boy) Floyd (with the magic tail).
