600.0. "Neads Animal Shelter?" by ELWOOD::FEASE (Andrea Midtmoen Fease) Fri Sep 10 1993 09:29

Has anyone heard of the Neads animal shelter? It's supposed to be
a no-kill shelter in Boyleston; I'm trying to place my abandoned kitten
    there.

But I wanted to make sure it was a good place ...

    Andrea,

I do know that the Neads Organization (not sure if it is considered
a shetler because they do alot with service dogs) helped the Pat
Brody Shelter when Pat first passed away. They were wonderful to
take some of our shelter kitties and find them wonderful homes.
They also assisted us in putting the paperwork together to become
a non-profit organization and still is one of our shelter resources
    to use when needed.

They were great to our shelter and our shelter kitties. I think they
are a wonderful organization and do believe they are a no-kill shelter.

Thanks, Sandy! The kitty (see note 4.505) is now over there with
Marilyn. Guess she was older than I thought - 4-5 months - though at
    least I sexed her right ;^) !

She's going to keep her for a couple of weeks, then have her
spayed before she is available. She showed me the kitties and I was
impressed - she's had a few for several years, those she couldn't
    place.

         She sure helped us out!

600.3The Colonel salutes NEADSDEMING::BITTICKSMon Sep 13 1993 08:3317
The Hon. Colonel Sebastian Moran, DROFFC, allowed me to adopt him from
NEADS. Not only did they provide him with excellent care before he took
over command of my home, but they check up on him regularly to be sure
he is well and being properly cared for.

They keep the cats around because many of their clients have cats and
they want the assistance dogs to be able to function without being
distracted or posing any threat to the cats. A very good idea!

It worked the other way around for me as the Colonel was accustomed to
dogs when he arrived in my home. After I let him out of the carrier, I
prepared a meal for him. Within 5 minutes of arrival, he was eating
while the 40 pound mutt nosed his posterior and the 170 pound St.
Bernard sniffed him from top to bottom. Never bothered him for a
    second.
