399.0. "Does Bribery work with your Moggy?" by NEEPS::IRVINE (Screamin' Demon from Mothercare!) Thu Sep 24 1992 08:12

Sorry if this is a repeat, but I could not find anything relating to
    this in Keywords/Titles

A point of conversation in this facility lately has been "How to con
your Moggy into doing what you want", knowing full well that my moggy
has this habit of doing what she wants, and hwat you want if it suits
    her strange ideas.

The latest one concerns getting the blasted cat to come in to the house
when she has sneeked out during the hours of darkness.

My cat (or should I say master?) has always been fed on demand, she has
irregular eating habits that I have been unable to break, and recently
she has taken to sneeking out whenever my back is turned. Last night
was the final straw. After spending a fruitless 2 hours
calling/whistling/shoutng/swearing/etc... with the usual result... Cat
sitting pretty on the wall staring at me as if I had two heads! I
resorted to bribery, MILK!!! She has not even looked at milk since I
changed to Skimmed Milk, and the containers have also changed. But
last night when I produced a container in the kitchen (which she has a
full view of from the top of that d@mnable wall), which loosely
resambled the old style milk containers, she came ni to the house at a
speed seldom seen from this lazy moggy. Only to find the door shut,
locked, and a bowl with full skimmed milk in it. The result of which
was too horrible for words (yowling, spitting everytime she passed me,
    etc.

So the question. Should I try bribery on a cat that has a bad temper,
when it is guarenteed that it will ALWAYS come my way (she has never
yet been mad at my SO)

I have found that any of my cats catch on REAAAAALL quick to
any such schemes on your part to get them to do what YOU want - like
come in. They are much too clever for that!

We try every attempt possibly to get the cats inside for the night...
one of my bribary tools is sliced chicken!! But I found the best
solution is to just continue following them...they will run and wait...
run and wait...run and wait...and sooner or later they will let you
catch up to them!! (of course I'm probably 1 mile in the woods by
    then...but I got the cat!!)
