359.0. "Til we meet again............" by CRUISE::NDC () Thu Aug 20 1992 10:40

I want to take this opportunity to thank all the FELINERs
for their friendship and love over the past 3 1/2 years that
    I've been with Digital.

I've been doing alot of thinking about the changes I have
gone through since I came to work here and since I discovered
FELINE and I am very pleased with the person I have become.

The wonderful people in this notesfile deserve a tremendous
amount of credit for those changes. Through your influence
I have discovered strength and love that I never knew existed -
both in myself and in others. And the love, dedication and
willingness to care and TO DO that I've seen here has forever
altered my perspective of the world and the human race
    significantly for the better.

I know that Pain and Joy are two sides of the same coin. You
can't have one without the other. I have learned not to judge
people because when you find yourself in the same situation
things usually look different. Situations are rarely simple.

Most importantly, tho, I have learned that LOVE really is the
most important thing in life. It is the only truely enduring
thing and it really does conquer all. And animals seem to have
a corner on that market :^)

People, like those in this notesfile, know something special.
Anyone who loves animals does. And the folks here aren't afraid
to take some risks and work together to do some truely amazing
    things.

Finally, the most vital lesson I've learned about myself is
"To thine own self be true". Follow your inner voice and do
what you feel is right regardless of what others think or say.
Deep inside you *know* what's best.

"Do what you will, er it harm no one."

I have received more from this special group of people than I
    can ever say.

I love you all! Keep up the good work.

    Nancy DC

When you told me, I was shocked and saddened, and I still am.
This isn't fair, it isn't right, I can't believe it. Can I say it
sucks and get away with it?

Keep in touch, my friend. If you're out this way, my door is
always open. And I'll try to make my way out there when I can.

Well, they've already cut me off from all my personal stuff.
I'm trying to get access to my pedigrees. That includes
my notesfile stuff so its unlikely I'll be able to get back
    in here much longer.

If you want to contact me try my dtn: 297-2313 or my home number
    617 849-9771.

Thanks to all for your support and your friendship. I hope you'll
keep in touch and understand if I'm not too quick to run up my
    phone bill.

I've left Nancy a message on her voice mail. What they're doing to her
violates company policy. People are supposed to have access during
the notice week to their personal files and email. If this happens to
you, get your Human Resources person involved.

359.24SPEZKO::RAWDENCheryl Graeme RawdenTue Aug 18 1992 16:092
Well, I was replying to Nancy's message and it failed with protection
errors. Now I know why. :^(
359.25TWIRL::GIAPRODPutiput Scottish Folds DTN:297-2313Tue Aug 18 1992 16:1815
Ok - things are reasonably straightened out - or will be shortly.
I have access back to mail, and via another account to everything
else so I'll be able to get my resume etc. Just consider yourself
warned. If there's anything critical that you want - or DON"T
want anyone to see then pull it immediately.

I reacted pretty strongly - after the last two weeks being cut
off like that in the middle of a mail message was the last straw.

TO quote one of my favorite characters from NIGHT COURT

    "I'm MUCH better now."

Nancy, I'm so sorry to see that you're leaving. Our group out
here is going through the TSFO thing too. I've been sweating it
but so far have managed to escape. Good luck to you in whatever
    you decided to do next.

    Nancy,

Again, I think this stinks and I am going to miss you TERRIBLY. You
were the feliner who got me involved in the shows and was sooo helpful
when I first started showing in HHP. I still hope to see you at
upcoming shows and will certainly stay in touch (by phone or letter).

I'm praying for you to get a much better job and nearer to home, as you
    know.

Sorry to lose you here Nancy, but we can still see you at the shows. I
can sort of understand from a temporary basis what it is like. I have
worked very long assignments and ended up being very emotional about
leaving. I too missed the notes for the past year and a half! It's
like you get attached through osmosis!!! Keep yourself busy and love
those cats :'}! They certainly helped me.
Karen, Ruby, Stinky, Wing, Josette, Tubba, Dunny, Baby, Smeadge, Tippy,

    WE shall meet again....soon!!!!

Nancy you are a special person that has helped everyone in
this notesfile through your encourgagement, knowledge,
    warmth and sincerety!!

Some examples where you touched my heart was the day I
had lost Tamba...as you know I was a basket case. I
remember at about 10:00AM the phone rang and it was
you!! First I couldn't believe you had already
found out and that phone call meant so much! What
you didn't know was I got off the phone and cried
my eyes out...because you touched me so much!!

Second...when I took in Abby and found out she
was pregnant......I again became a total basket
case and you were there offering your assistance
and calming me down!! And again when she lost
    her babies...you were right there.

And last but not least...about two years ago I
remember having many conversations with you
regarding whether I should get involved with
the Pat Brody Shelter. I feared getting involved
with a shelter because I know my heart would ache
for the kitties...I feared the shelter would take
over my life....I feared that I just couldn't deal
with the sad stories. But during our conversation
you helped me truly understand what shelter life
was all about....and encouraged me to get involved.
Well...the shelter has taken over my life...but
I am a better person because of it....

NAncy...I won't say goodby....I will just say good
luck and farewell for now!! You are not losing
friends....you just need to find a new way to
    communicate!!!

    Sandy

    Nancy,

This is not goodbye, as we *will* keep in touch 8-). I can't
remember when we first met (how's *that* for a terrible memory ;^) ?),
it just feels like we've know each other forever. We've shared
something special, and nothing can take that away from us.

I'll miss my weekly visits over to MRO3, talking kitties and other
stuff, but if you have a compuserve account, well, that will make it a
    lot easier!

Best of luck to you, and please give the kitties a big hug from me

This is very hard for me .. we've been friends for a long time. I
remember long before you even decided to get into scottish folds .. I
remeber how you tried to justify being a breeder when there are so many

I will miss you terribly .. hopefully I will see you at some of the
shows, although I realize that financially it may not be possible for a
    while.

Please keep in touch. You know where to find me. I have your number

Probably not the right place to put this, moderators feel free to move
it, but here's some info I have about staying connected to email. I
know someone who uses it with a Rainbow(!) at 1200 baud and says it
works fine. 2400 baud loses, for some reason. It might be cheaper
than Compuserve. Agh, I just realized it is largely for the San
Francisco area in terms of phoning in, but they seem to have a (more
costly) way for others to call in (see below). Of course, it sends
mail out to the net, so people you send mail to don't have to phone
into it to read mail, or to send you mail.

My little voice was telling me to call Peter Miller, my boss from
my last job with Compuserve Data Technologies (Makers of System 1032)
and it turns out that they are putting in a bid on a MASSIVE conversion
project for a company in Toronto. Most of the work will be done
in Cambridge. Peter needs at least three programmers to throw at
the project and all he has is one.

(Conversion project = convert from System 1022, database system
that runs on Dec 10's and 20's to System 1032 that runs on Vaxes)

Anyway, he was DE-LIGHTED to hear from me which sure was good for
    the ol' Ego.

So, keep your fingers all crossed that they get this contract.

I wonder how many cat nuts I can find at CDT. :^)))))

Nancy, I'm extremely delighted to hear of your emerging opportunity.
I too am finding interviews "on the outside".

Although I haven't been in FELINE in a while, I will miss the
invaluable friendships and advice received along the way.

    Nan,

I ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY *REFUSE* to say goodbye! :-) I luv ya
too much, and when I took in my first (of many cats) last spring
and was having problems with them, you were the FIRST person to run to
the rescue, without even knowing me, and willing to give me the shirt
off your back, so to speak. Your generosity is astounding, and you
have a heart bigger than just about anyone else I know. I'm proud to
    call you my friend.

    Peace,

    Nan

P.S. Love the line in your goodbye note.... "Do what ye will, ere it
halm none." Remember also, in wicca, they tell you what you do comes
back to you.....what should come back to you Nan is love, and caring
and help and honesty and compassion.... because those are the things
you are constantly giving others, and all the little felines who you
    take in.

I will miss your voice in this conference. Keep someone informed of how
you are doing so they can keep us updated...

I know this can be scary...but, it can also be a grand opportunity to grow
and achieve. Change is, and always has been, my impetus to expand my
horizons and exercise and stretch my potential....I envy you this. You
are smart, funny, brave, and strong. Whatever happens to you will be

Well, I have one more plea for help to enter.

Just when you think things are tough, something happens to put
    it all in perspective.

Mao got out on me last night and I can't find her! She's my 13
year old embassador of good will. She and Bumpytail have been
with me thru boyfriends, marriage, divorce, and now lay off.

I'm not panicking yet. ANd I know about checking garages and
basements, I've called the vet, talked to the neighbors.
Tonight I"ll put up lost ads.

I'll keep Nancy Cross posted so she can let you know what happens.

I find it hard to believe she would stray very far....she is very

I heard from Nancy (via Compuserve). She said that Mao still has not
returned and she's depressed about it. She implied that a visit from
feliners would be appreciated right about now. So people, this is your
chance to visit her - get in gear and head for Braintree! :^)
359.41I'm heading there SaturdayAIMHI::PMURPHYThu Aug 27 1992 14:4517
Yes, she was very depressed when I talked to her last night. She said
she can deal with almost anything that's come along but losing Mao has
    hit very hard.

If we weren't shorthanded in my office right now, I would have taken
today or tomorrow as a vacation day to drive to Braintree to help
search for Mao. I told Nancy I'd be down Saturday though, unless I
hear Mao has been found. Mao is such a pretty girl that someone just
may have taken her in their home thinking she was homeless.

Nancy has also put ads in local papers in the Lost/Found Classified
    sections.

Anyone else heading to Nancy's Saturday?

If someone has taken in Mao, she may reappear in the future.
Apparently it's not unusual for some nitwit (escuse me) who doesn't
know about cats to "take in" an attractive one, realize they can't
handle the various things involved, and let the cat out again in a
couple of weeks. Of Mao might get out herself and return home.

Please tell Nancy she and Mao are in my thoughts.

I've been talking with Nancy for the last couple of days without any
problems. It could be from your server not recognizing either DECPA or
DECWRL. It's happened to me before.

    Karen
359.46OXNARD::KOLLINGKaren/Sweetie/Holly/Little Bit Ca.Fri Aug 28 1992 21:047
I've sent mail to Nancy with no trouble. At least, without any bounce
message. You might try substituting DECWRL for DECPA in the address
and see if that works -- I think the only function of the DEC part of
the address is to get to a place that will send it out to the universe.
Actually, DECPA may be identical to DECWRL. If you still have trouble
on Monday, let me know and I'll ask someone at decwrl.

Without a doubt, FELINE has been the funnest notesfile for me to read.
This has been a difficult year for me, but I could always count on this
notesfile to give me a smile or a chuckle or a good long laugh to
brighten my day. I always saved this file for the last to read.
Reading about all of our furfaces antics, our sorrows when we lost one,
and our joy in being cat owners has been wonderful to be a part of.
All of you have enriched my life and my kitties lives. I've learned so
much in here from all of you.

So with paws waving, I'm off to a new journey. I wish all of you the

359.49Still missing.....MODEL::CROSSMon Aug 31 1992 14:3624
Nancy wanted me to let you all know that Mao is still missing.
I went to see her on Saturday and we spent many hours traipsing
through the conservation land that backs her house, calling for
her lost kitten. We went through all the surrounding neighborhoods
and talked to people. She has posted signs on many telephone poles,
as well as in drug stores and supermarkets, dunkin donuts and gas
stations. There is a $25 reward. Already she received a crank call
from a jerk with a boston number who said, "I eat cats...I have your
cat...but $25 isn't enough...if you want to talk, call me!" How
callous, and especially when she is feeling so vulnerable.

I hope Mao will come home soon.... Nancy has also called vets and
pounds and humane societies, as well as posted a LOST notice in three
of the major papers for that area. She even put a notice in the pet
    supply store near her home.

If anyone would like to contact Nancy, she'd love to hear from some
of the noters. When you are a former FELINER, and you don't have the
support system of the notes, it is nice to hear from those that care
like you do for your cats. Her number is 617-849-9771.

I will also keep you all posted when I hear more.

359.56Mau is homeMODEL::CROSSMon Oct 12 1992 10:2725
I didn't know where to enter this, but since this was Nancy DC's last
entry in the FELINE notes, felt it could go here.

Anyway, she called me over the weekend to let me know that Mau came
home. She didn't come home on her own, exactly, but was found
approximately 6 miles away in a school yard in Randolph....the
superintendant (I think) saw her hanging about and brought her home
where she was spoiled and adored. He and his wife placed an ad in a
local flyer under the lost and found section, but it was such a small
newsletter that Nancy had never read it. A friend of hers told her
about he ad and Nancy followed up on it. Mau had been with the people
for a little over two weeks.

She is trying to adjust now to being back at Nan's. I guess she really
enjoyed being an "only" cat and her first nite home she slept on the
fridge, hissing at all the other cats. She hasn't purred yet, but
Nan is hopeful. However, a few days later, she is starteing to come
around. Nancy considered letting the couple keep Mau, but she said,
"Mau is an old friend...she's been with me for many years...and I
really don't want to let her go."

So anyway, that's the scoop......Mau was missing, altogether, six
    weeks.
