| I have had cats that would lunge back at the cage door when the judge
put them back. My method of dealing with it is to treat it as
misbehavior. I try to set the cat up to lunge back at me at the cage
door, and when he/she does, I blow on their nose and tell them NO! It
has worked with two cats that I have shown. It doesn't hurt them, but
it lets them know that the behavior is unacceptable.

| Blowing on their nose! Good idea, Jo! I'll have to try that the next time
Kyra decides to "box" with me after I put her in the judging ring!
What do I do?? I've had a tendency to ignore it completely. Kyra turns
around and swats me, but her claws aren't out. (We call it "boxing"). I
figured that if I ignored it completely, then she wouldn't think I'm afraid
of her. (I usually ask the clerk to tell the judge about it)

| I've been telling every judge about it! 50% of them won't pull back,
and tell her 'no', whereas the other 50% jump back, so she sits in the
corner "snickering" as to what she's done.
I'm going to my mom's in Ohio next week and try to train her AND her
pyscho sister, Crystal. P.A. really freaks when she sees a cat that's
unfamiliar to her, so hopefully I can break her of this. Additionally,
I can get strangers to pick her up, and have them discipline her as
well (blowing on the nose is something I didn't think of! Great idea!)
You know how Korats are, though. P.A. will probably blow back on my
nose and say "So? You have bad breath -- what do you want ME to do
about it???"
Additionally, the breeder in Columbus, OH who I've been working with
owns a pet store. She said that she'll put her in a cage in the store
so she sees lots of cats, dogs, birds, people, etc. coming in and out.
She also has about 9 Korats, so I'd like for P.A. to see that she isn't
the ONLY domineering cat in the world!
This is getting more stressful on me than the cat! I even bought the
book last night, "No more naughty cats". Anyone read this?

| Hi Cheryl,
Yes, I have "No Naughty Cats" and highly recommend this book to any and
all cat-owned humans! It's absolutely wonderful. I got it prior to
finding this notesfile when I had just about exhausted ways of getting
Brandy to get over his box phobia, human phobia, toy phobia...the poor
guy was an abuse case and I couldn't get ear him unless it was to put
food in the bowl. Now he's a well adjusted furface.
