212.0. "Rumford Pet Center, East Providence, RI" by CSSE32::RAWDEN (Cheryl Graeme Rawden) Tue Mar 03 1992 12:12

    Does anyone know if the Rumford Pet Center on Route 6 in East
    Providence, Rhode Island was able to save any of their pets? A friend
    from the nearby DEC office said it nearly burned to the ground this
    morning.

    I remember going in this store as a kid and just can't imagine it being
    gone... What a horrible death the animals must have suffered. :^(

212.1too much of this sor of thing recently..DELNI::JMCDONOUGHTue Mar 03 1992 12:238
      According to the reports I heard, all of the animals perished.
    However, usually in fires like this the animals suffer very little.
    Smoke and toxic fumes usually render them unconscious very quickly.
     However this surely is a terrible tragedy on the scale of the
    greyhound kennel in Rever MA and the barn at Plimoth Plantation
    that burned recently..

212.2Hope that they are caught.......FSOA::PHOUDETue Mar 03 1992 12:476
    I heard the same on the radio this morning. Hopefully none suffered
    at all. This is terrible. If they find out that this rash of fires is
    connected in some way and they catch those responsible - I can think of
    some nice forms of punishment for those involved.

    I hope that they are caught soon!

    How terrible. I've also heard, however, that what happens in such a
    case is that the beings become first unconscious and then die
    from inhaling smoke and fumes, so hopefully these babies didn't suffer.
