157.0. ""Bruno & The Girls"......." by DELNI::JMCDONOUGH () Mon Jan 27 1992 11:58

        DISCLAIMER: The following information is IN NO WAY an endorsement
    of any product or any alcoholic beverage...in fact, my ONLY indulgence
    in such things is an occasional glass of red wine at a meal and a
    "Coors Light" after a hot day's work in the yard on a 90 degree plus
    July or August day..

         Although I'm sure this ad appeared in many national publications,
    I discovered it inside the back cover of the January 1992 issue of
    "Smithsonian magazine". It's the latest ad fo Schmirnoff Vodka...and
    the photo is priceless......

       The caption on top of the photo is:

                      "Home is where you find it"

        Under the photo is the note:

                         "Bruno and the girls"

            The photo shows a Damation dog on the left, and 5 of the cutest
        "Dalmation" cats that you've ever seen... I'm certain that the
        original photo showed 5 WHITE cats, and then the person with the
        air-brush had a ball... The result is hysterical...and the
        expressions on the cat's faces are hilarious...the typical "smuggo"
        looks and such... According to the ad, this is #11 in a
        series...and NOW I've gotta see if I can find out how to get the
        series...

        (I made some copies...and they came out fair...)

That sounds like a really cute ad; I'll have to look for it!

The first place I'd look for other ads in the series would be older issues
of Smithsonian, either at home or in the library.

Good luck!
Jill
157.2It's a priceless phot....makes you smile..DELNI::JMCDONOUGHMon Jan 27 1992 14:194
      I'm also gonna drop by the package store and see if Schmirnoff is
    offering the series somewhere/somehow...

    	John....after reading your note about this ad I sent a message
    	out to my group asking if anyone got Smithsonian and if so,
    	if I could have the ad.....I just *have* to see this!

    John -

    I subscribe to Smithsonian also and it just so happens I have the
    December issue in the office. Page 103 has #6 in the series. Not
    quite as cute as Bruno & the girls.

       Newsweek's probably a lot easier to find...

       What I'd like to know is WHERE they found these Cats! What a group
    of little charmers!! Those "pixie" expressions are the cutest...

I was at a friend's house last night, and noticed a Smithsonian magazine. I
checked the cover, and it said January! I looked through the whole thing
before realizing it was January 1990!!

    If you call Smirnoff at 203-231-5900 and ask for the public relations
    department, they will send you a picture and later a poster of the
    ad. The woman told me that the cats spots were air-brushed.

    I don't suppose anyone could call Smirnoff and get me a picture/poster?

    possibily I could possibly get two copies of Bruno and the girls
    and she said no problem. She also told me she would put me on

    I tried the number in reply .11 and was told to call 203.678.6669 and
    ask for Leanne Carroll(?). She wasn't in but someone else that was new
    in that department said she'd send along Bruno and the girls. She
    mentioned that it was part of a series but she hadn't seen the other
    pictures. She said one was Linda's Wedding, another was something
    Chinese, and another was of a black Lab Retriever. Sounds like they do
    fun things with their art department. :^)

    When I called, I did get Leanne Carroll. What a wonderful
    person she was! So bubbly, (as was the other person I talked to!)
    And lively....she joked with me, and told me about some of
    the series...

157.24Now there's a t-shirt!VISUAL::FLMNGO::WHITCOMBMon Jul 27 1992 17:3812
For those of you who love "Bruno and the Girls", you may be interested to know
that now there's a t-shirt with that exact same picture on it! I saw it in
the Parragon mailorder catalog and the price is $16.95. It's not an
advertisement for Smirnoff, but it's the same picture that appears in one of
Smirnoff's Bruno and the Girls ads. It's the one with the Dalmatian dog
surrounded by a dozen or so "Dalmatian cats".

If anyone would like more information on this, please let me know and I'll bring
my catalog in.

157.28GIF anyone?CSC32::K_TOKaren To, CSC, Colorado SpringsTue Jul 13 1993 17:415
I found the Bruno photo via anonymous FTP at:

wuarchive.wustl.edu

at /graphics/gif/d/dalmation.
157.29BRUNO.GIF AvailableFPTWS1::ABRAMSDr. Frankenclinton and algoreFri Jul 16 1993 11:3855
I got the BRUNO GIF file in .-1 over internet, and have placed it in

FPTVX1::CE$PUBLIC:BRUNO.GIF

Plese use "SPOOL COPY" from VMS systems if you have it. For PCs, you need
access to a PATHWORKS server and a GIF viewer on your PC. For those with
PCs at home, I might be convinced to put it on a floppy or two and send
interoffice....if we create a mail chain so I'm not inundated.

Techie Notes:

Here's how I got the file:

Step 1. Send mail to the Internet FTP gateway with all the exact right
commands in it. The command file I used is:
	$ mail
	send
	decwrl::"ftpmail"

	(subject) FPT request of 7/15
	reply abrams@fptvx1.enet.dec.com
	connect wuarchive.wustl.edu anonymous abrams
	chdir /graphics/gif/d
	binary
	uuencode
	get dalmation
	quit
	$ exit

Step 2. If Step 1 succeeds, a day or two later you have the file waiting
in VMSmail, but, it's uuencoded (to make a binary file mailable) and it's
broken into four mail messages. EXTRACT/NOHEAD each file and then recon-
struct in the right order with a text editor.

Step 3. Copy the file to a UNIX system and run uudecode.
	$ uudecode file
which creates the file "ftpmail", which I renamed bruno.gif .

Step 4. Copy back to a VMS system, and run CONVERT_FIXED_512.EXE which
I got from the network somewhere. It converts a UNIX "Stream_LF" file
to a FIXED 512-byte formatted file suitable for PC use.

Step 5. Copy to a directory on my PATHWORKS server.

Step 6. On my PC, run a GIF viewer...and it worked! Rather surprising
after all these conversions!

157.30A WHOLE WALL OF THEM!POWDML::MORGAN_CTue Sep 14 1993 13:558
    A late entry here - but I've had the poster for about a year(?)
    I don't know - it's always been in my office. I found it in
    a Paperama in Burlington, MA - it's about 1' x 2" long - people
    love it...."how'd they do that????" - referring to the dalmation
    cats!
