143.0. "poison Ivy" by TEGAN::LACORTI () Fri Jan 17 1992 15:04

Is it possible for a cat to get poison Ivy? Can they transmit it?
I think I have it, but I have not been near woods, plants, etc outdoors
in months. The only thing I could think of is that Chief got into it
one time when I let him out and then I "caught" it from him. Would he
have broken out too. I have not seen him scratch at all lately and he
looks fine. Any help to this mystery would be appreciated

    					Thanks

Yes, your cat/dog/horse/S.O. can transmit poison ivy to
you by having the oil on their fur/skin, and you touch
or they touch you, and....Presto! Poison Ivy!

Horses get it on their muzzles, but I haven't seen a dog or cat
    with it, yet!

Yes, my cat Tabby, may he rest in peace used to go out
sometimes and bring back the juice of the plant on his fur. Of course,
my hugging and kissing him used to produce some rather unpleasant
results, but oh well.. it goes away.....

There is something new on the market that that is called Tech-nu, ans
as someone that can break out by just walking by the stuff, I can feel
it is a god send. This stuff is some kind of a petrolum by-product tat
you use to wash off any area of your skin tha tmight have been exposed.
It even lessens the problem when the rash FIRST starts. (The down side
is that you can't use it if your blisters have burst).
