141.0. "What wierd "people food" does YOUR furball love?" by SELL1::FAHEL (Amalthea Celebras/Silver Unicorn) Fri Jan 17 1992 08:21

What are some of the wierd things that your little darlings eat (and
    I'm talking FOODSTUFFS here...)?

Tiki II loved hot food. My hub made himself an omelette with
horseradish and jalapeno peppers, and (just to see what Tiki would do)
left a bit of egg and peppers on the plate for Tiki to check out.

Tiki ATE the chunks of egg and peppers, licked the plate clean, AND
ASKED FOR MORE! (Needless to say, he didn't get it).

He also liked milk...but only milk left over from bowls of cereal. He
wouldn't TOUCH straight milk. He liked the sugar from the cereal in
    the milk.

Alex is a salad lover. Whenever we have salad, she is all over us. We
HAVE to leave a bit of the veggies for her to demolish. She also
devours french fries. (I figure fresh, clean, uncooked veggies
    couldn't possibly hurt her).

The ONLY "people food" that Rico will touch is tuna...and it HAS to be
albacore. Other than that, no cheese, no milk, no tuna salad (both
Tiki AND Alex loved tuna salad), no meat...well, he likes a teensy bit
    of chicken.

I know that not all "people food" is good for cats. These things are
very, VERY occasional things. We've basically stuck to giving them
    their own foods.

Katie and Punkin will watch popcorn being made by
sitting in front of the microwave window...and will BEG like
crazy when it's ready...Katie will eat about ten pieces, but
Punkin would eat the whole bag if I'd let him. If I toss it,
he will catch it with his front paws and stuff it into his
mouth all in one swoop - it's a riot!

Herbie eats Raisin Bran with Dana every morning. He also loves
anything bread-like. Pizza goes over real big with him!

Taja loves raw hamburger meat. I always have to put it in the
microwave to defrost (I guess this isn't too weird a food for a cat to
love!). When it is in the frying pan cooking he will jump on the
counter and start eating it right out of the pan! I can't turn my back
on him for a minute where hamburger meat is concerned.

My others are pretty much cat food only cats. Tuna always goes over
big as does fresh poultry meats with the entire crew.

Chloe doesn't like much people food, neither does Brandi.
    	Probably chicken and tuna only.

Sasha loves eggs, cheese, popcorn (*loves* popcorn), chips
    	chicken and tuna.

Audrey will eat some of the same stuff as Sasha but only
if she's in the mood for it.....she's a strange one. =)

141.4The Dorito Kid...RicoSELL1::FAHELAmalthea Celebras/Silver UnicornFri Jan 17 1992 11:5111
I just remembered something else that Rico absolutely loves...Doritos!

Whenever I have Doritos (the regular, Nacho flavored...and I say
Doritos, but I mean any brand), after I finish up, I first take a small
piece of one and give it to him, then I let him lick my fingers. He's
not too keen on the chips themselves, but he LOVES the flavored powder!

Tiki liked all cheese BUT American, and Alex likes ONLY American
    cheese.

    Let me start with Stitch:

Asparagus, artichokes, garbanzo beans, corn, any kind of people cereal,
a swig of beer now and then, and just about anything that we eat.
He'll try anything and come back for more if he likes it. This cat
would never starve. The other night Richard was working on some
chicken and he jumped up on the table and just about swiped it out of
    his mouth.

Gino: Anything with spices, sausage, chinese food, mexican food,
chicken with papricka(sp) or any kind of pepper - he'll lick the hot
stuff off chips, french bread (we usually cut off the end and let him
    work on it).

Pippin's diet has been restricted but her absolute favorite of all was
    shrimp and tuna.

In addition to the above they all like shrimp/prawns tuna, petrale,
dried squid and Pasta, cottage cheese and pancakes on Sunday mornings.

The strangest craving at our house belongs to Beau, whose tastes
are extremely picky. He touches *no* people food, and only very
occasionally will eat canned cat food - he lives entirely on dry
kibble. Well, with one exception - don't know if you've all heard
or seen the strange item known as Wheat Nuts, but if I'm trying to
eat these, he will climb all over my face until I give him one!
	Very weird . . .

141.7Abby=indiscriminate eaterSA1794::RIVARDBFri Jan 17 1992 14:2819

Hamilton eats Pro Plan and the regular kitty treats -- Pounce,
Bonkers, etc. The only people type stuff he likes is the water that comes
in cans of tuna or sardines. Doesn't eat the fish, though. But Abigail
will eat ANYTHING. She loves spanish olives, especially the pimento.
When we're eating she jumps on Bob's back and lays across the back of
his neck with her head and front legs hanging over the front of his
shoulder until we give her some of whatever we're eating. She likes
mashed potatoes, but only if there's butter on them. So far she's had
a taste of everything we've eaten and liked it. She's more fussy about
cat food. Won't eat 9 Lives, canned OR dry. Usually I try to feed her
before we eat so she doesn't bother us so much, but since she's a
little eating machine that doesn't always work but it does cut down
on the length of time she bothers us for. Maybe she'll outgrow people
food. Hamilton did and now he's super fussy. Oh, well, from one extreme
to the other.....Cats. What would we do without 'em?

Chief loves popcorn, nacho chips, peanuts, potato chips, and other
other kind of snack food. He also loves milk.
He has this new habit of going into the refrigerator every time
we open the door. I guess he loves it in there!
141.9Apricots and soapVMSMKT::THOMPSONKate Comiskey ThompsonFri Jan 17 1992 15:0513
Poppy likes lots of people food you'd expect her to eat.

Probably the weirdest thing she likes is dried apricots. Like
another kitty mentioned earlier, she only likes milk if it has
(or has had) cereal in it. If I buy that muesli-type stuff with
dried fruit in it, well, it's quite a scene.

Her real favorite is soap lather. I can hardly wash my face at
the bathroom sink without her sitting on the counter trying to
lick the soap off my face.

Well I was in for a new scoop on Mittens and Peaches. Usually
they stick to items like cream cheese, cheese, whipped cream,
ice cream, popcorn, chips - the usual garbage. But.....

last weekend I was going to a friends house for dinner (and
thank goodness it was close friends!). I figured I'd prepare
a batch of gingerbread for our dessert. Well, I take it out
of the oven, flip it over, sprinkle ever so slightly with sugar
    - it looked beautiful! I ran to the shower and when I came out
I looked at the kitchen table. As I got closer I realized there
was a problem with my masterpiece - there were actual bites gone
out of it! As I looked closer I noticed the sugar from half the
gingerbread was licked off. I immediately looked for the "kids"
and there they were - napping (but oh, wouldn't you after a
    yummy dessert?!)

End of the story - I had to cut off half the gingerbread and as
there was no time to whip up another I took it as was. When I
got to my friends house, she pulled it out of the bag and asked
where the rest of our dessert was - I told her in my cat's tummies!

Well my 3 love the usual "people food" popcorn, tuna, skim milk, eggs,

As for Snookie he likes baked beans,
    Goldie likes tomatoes
    Mittens likes anything I eat....

141.12I've given up trying to figure out my cats...SRFCLB::RADAMSMon Jan 20 1992 15:1127
Our two little wierdos will eat just about anything (save bananas). INCLUDING
NON-EDIBLE MATERIAL!..

On the Edible side they both love:

Bagels with/without cream cheese.. Raisin bagels seem to be the favorite.. It is
very difficult to eat a bagel slopping over with cream cheese while a cat is
standing on your chest swatting at the object of your appitite.

Cantaloupe. They can't figure out how to bite it so they just lick it until
it's gone.

Once I caught Cherie licking a slice of pizza that I had just POURED garlic
powder and red pepper flakes on.. It was almost to spicey for Bob the garlic
consuming pig to eat.. Cherie loved it..

On the NON-edible side they like:

Sand paper.. Don't ask me.. I can't figure this out.. It appears though the
the grain has to be 120 or higher.

Birch bark. When I bring wood in for a fire the first thing they do is start
chewing ont he pieces of birch.

Toilet paper.. This is the oddest. Our kitten just loves toilet paper..

go figure..

Skeeters loves any kind of Italian food. She loves pizza and lasagna
the best. She also loves mustard. If I eat something with mustard on
it she will lick any drops off the plate after I have finished eating.

Alex loves french fries and potato chips. I don't allow him to have
these because of his digestion problems.

Cleo and Katie stick to cat food, they have never been real interested
in people food, unless it's chicken and then all four of them go nuts.
    They love chicken.

Onyx likes cookies and crackers. Anything that was made with butter
or margarine. He's even been so bold as to come after a piece of
fudge I was eating. Wouldn't let him have it though since chocolate
is so bad for them. I had some Ben & Jerrys Vanilla with Chocolate
Chip Cookie Dough ice cream the other night and Onyx was all over
me trying to get at it.

Actually, I don't think Onyx really has a preference. He likes
anything that I am trying to eat. He has got to be the rudest
little cat when I'm eating. I'm trying to break him of this. There's
nothing worse than having a little cat face an inch from your face
    when you're trying to eat.

Bailey and Amelia like to try to steal my chicken or pork off my
plate. They usually wait till I'm not looking but now and then
they get impatient and try to grab it right out of my hand or swat
it and send it flying off the plate. The weirdest thing I've ever
seen Amelia eat was cooked carrots. I think the only reason she ate
them was because they'd been stir fried with some chicken and her nose
told her it smelled like chicken so it must be just some really orange
    chicken.

Bailey likes to steal cheese out of my tacos. I usually make a couple
and eat one while the other sits on the plate, she steals the cheese
out of the one on the plate. I try to offer her lettuce instead but
    she'll have none of that.

Carrie doesn't particularly like people food. Except tuna, but then
she doesn't really consider that people food. It's cat food isn't it?
She turns her nose up at things the other cats would kill for. She will
occasionally deign to eat chicken if I hold it for her to sniff for
    10 minutes first.

I think the strangest thing I've seen my beasties eat is mushrooms and
    onions.

They love them when they come off a pizza, especially. All 3 of them
will come running when pizza is delivered to the house, and if they
don't get at least -something- off the pizza, they get very upset.

Alos, my oldest (she's almost 12 now) has to lick clean the bowl if
anyone in the house has ice cream, otherwise she sulks and pouts and
won't talk to me for about 3 days!

My furball, Midnight, loves to lick my cereal bowl after I am done with
it in the morning. She also gets a piece of my lunch meat as I make my
sandwich before leaving for work. And finally, she also likes to sample
our chocolate pudding (when we have it) in the evenings for desert.

I know we are spoiling her, but she is so cute the way she stands up
on her hind legs and begs that it's hard to resist.

141.17The fork...the leverSELL3::FAHELAmalthea Celebras/Silver UnicornTue Jan 21 1992 09:1413
Eating with Alex is always an exercise in caution.

Rico behaves and sits away from us when we eat, but Alex, no matter
what we do (spray her, shout, etc.) will still come after our dishes.
What's worse...if a fork or spoon is in the plate with the handle
sticking out over the edge, she will use the utensil as a lever; she
will hit the handle as hard as she can, causing whatever food is ON it
to go flying, with her flying after it. We've learned not to leave
    them like that.

    She's also a chocoholic, and loves butter/margarine.

A "weird" people food that the babies like? Well, most of them don't like
people food. Except for Sweetie and PIMA. They will eat almost anything.

I guess the only "weird" people food that Sweetie eats is that he absolutely
LOVES Cheezits! If you've got cheezits, he will not leave you alone!
Especially if they're Tri-sum cheezits!

Oh, and Michaela (RIP) used to love Powdered sugar doughnuts!

Boy, is this a topic I can relate to. Benson, our Abyssinian, seems
to go crazy over most types of people food. His favorites are : any kind of
red meat, turkey, cheese, ice cream (especially strawberry cheesecake!),
nachos, potato chips, peanut butter, rice, pepperoni, peas, chocolate cake,
carrot bread, and the list goes on. He's not bashful about his "people food
demands" either. I made lunches this morning, and left the full lunch bags
on the kitchen table while I finished getting ready for work. When I returned
to the kitchen, I found one of the bags open, and a half eaten, smooshed up
peanut butter and jelly sandwich on the floor!
Sadie, on the other hand, only cares for turkey and roast beef.

Mine go crazy over them as well. A couple of weeks ago I spilt some on

I think it's a riot that some of your furballs love flake fish food.
Mine on the other hand make a face like I was trying to poison them!
Their heads jerk back and their eyes squint like the fumes are burning
their eyes! You'd think they'd learn though. Whenever I open the fish
food to feed the fish, they have to check it out to make sure I didn't
put REAL food in there! I get to see those squished up faces almost
    every morning!

Other than having to sniff everything that may possibly be chow, and
the normal meats and cheese and kitty food, my two are boring. It's
really cute when I give furby a piece of chicken or other meat though.
If you go anywhere near her she'll growl and swipe at you. This is
weird, because as far as I know, she never had to fend for herself.
    It's really cute though!

Doonie likes potato chips, and thread if I'm not careful, which I am.
She steals the little plastic bobbins I keep my embroidery floss on and
chews them up. There's never any pieces missing, or thread for that
matter, but the ID number on the bobbin is usually bitten so many times
I can't read the number any more! :-( It's the loos thread I have to be
careful of. I usually sit on it while I'm working! I get poked when she
see a little bit of it sticking out sometimes too! Ouch! ;-)

I didn't know that! Yikes. I've just dropped two cubes straight into
the warm water and then stirred a bit till the shrimp separated and
spread thru the tank! No one told me how to do it, I'm just a beginner
with this, and there were no directions on the packet.

Question, how do I rinse the shrimp without losing all the little
suckers down the drain? They look like downy little feathers....they'd
slip right through any colander I would use.

    Nancy:

I feed both the live and frozen brine shrimp (feed the live it's really
something to watch) and in all the books I've read it specified rinsing
the food, especially ANY live food because of bacteria. At first I
didn't bother until some of my fish got sick (yuck)!

With the frozen brine shrimp - break off a piece, place it in a small
strainer (like a tea strainer) and put it under running water until a
little after it melts (cool water). With the live - scoop some out with the
strainer and rinse them in cool water (hot will kill them of course).
The water doesn't need to run very hard and then drop them in the tank.

If you feed worms - be sure you rinse them thoroughly as they carry a
lot of nasty stuff but fish love them. There are a lot of books
available with detailed sections on feeding.

Good luck - fish are a lot of work but so beautiful to look at,

I usually avoid giving my cats people food, but once in a while I'll
give them a taste of something. More often, they'll help themselves to
food on the counter when my back is turned (I never learn!).

The weirdest thing I've seen my cats eat is tofu. Why would they like
tofu?? I've been leaning towards vegetarianism and have been looking for
new ideas for meatless meals. I invented a dish consisting of cubed tofu,
microwaved frozen peas, and instant Chinese noodles (sounds yummy,
huh? :-) If I turn my back on the tofu while I'm preparing this
dish, I can expect to find Toby or Tweetie chowing down on it.

Awhile back I decided to give tofu pups (hot dogs with tofu instead of
meat and whatever else is in them) a try. I microwaved two, guessing at
the length of time. Evidently I overcooked them. I took two bites and
almost gagged. They were SO gross and rubbery! (The packaging didn't
mention they were smoke-flavored, either -- yuck!) The cats were all
milling around underfoot while this was going on, so I cut off a little
piece of one pup and put it down for them. They attacked it like sharks
after a piece of bloody meat! So I cut up the rest of the cooked pups
for them and they thought they had one heck of a treat!

    Now that's weird.

The Fickle will eat whole-wheat matzohs, sunflower seeds, wheat chex,

non-foods, like aluminum foil! Since she is half-Siamese, the non-food
items she eats don't stay with her for long anyhow, though... This is
not so much of a problem now that both cats are getting pretty old and
are not as interested in trying to upend the kitchen trash can as they

Well, I've got one cat (Spike) who loves green beans. The other
one (Hurricane) will eat broccoli but only prepared in
an itlian fashion, (sauted in Olive oil with garlic and
red pepper flakes, I think the Olive oil is what he really wants).
And they'll both stare at me when I try to eat a carton of yogurt

Little Ebony (our black devil-cat) loves lettuce... guess it reminds
    her of houseplants 8-)

Cleo (our gray 3/4 Siamese) goes absolutely wild for coffee... and it's
not just the cream she's after, either. She goes *most* wild for
fresh-ground coffee *grounds*! Since Daddy always grinds his fresh
every time, the sound of the coffee grinder brings her running. Lick
my finger, dip it in the grounds, offer it to her, and she licks it
    clean!

Cleo also goes wild for certain tart candies -- Smarties and
gummy bears are her favorites... but the krinkle of any kind of
candy wrapper brings her running to investigate.

Lunette (or "Loonie", as the case may be) likes breakfast cereal; to her
it's a combination toy *and* food item! Toss her a Chex and she'll
bat it all over the kitchen floor before she finally cronches down on
it. Loonie also goes ga-ga over figs. Yes, figs. You gotta give
her little pieces so she can get her mouth around them, but she'll
chow down a couple of whole figs at this rate if you let her.

Ralph loves broccoli, but *only* the florets.

Athena's a real fruit-lover... offer her a peach pit with some flesh
still clinging to it, and she'll rasp it clean with her tongue.

She's convinced that the sound of a spoon in a bowl means milk although

Lea loves pasta, butter, and cheese. She will lick the remnants off my

Sunday night I was *planning* on consuming the leftover chinese food that
was in the fridge - spicy broccoli in garlic sauce, pork fried rice, peking
ravioli, chicken and cashew nuts. Well, I dumped it all out on the plate,
and the phone rang. By the time I got back to my plate, the broccoli was gone,
the pork and egg from the pork fried rice was gone, the chicken from the chicken
with cashew nuts, along with some of the water chestnuts were *gone*. There
was Simon picking through the remains to see if there was anything else he
wanted. It's a good thing the ravioli were as big as they were - if I had
broken them open, the stuffings would have gone too.

So much for my chinese dinner.....

Chester has an olive fetish. I haven't actually let him eat one, but he goes
nuts when I do. He gets all over my face after I've eaten one. One time, I
decided to see how far he would go, and opened my mouth. He put his entire
muzzle in my mouth (I know, gross, but I don't think it's any worse than his
likcing the faucet, and I know he's not the only cat around that does that!)
Anyway, no matter how hard I try to sneak around, he always knows that I've
eaten one. He can be a real pain sometimes, but I love him anyway.

When he broke up with his girlfriend she took the cat. After three +

that the cat would jut sit up still next to him and he would open his

Does anyone relate to having two cats sitting only inches from my face

Speaking of "wino's" Tai Tai our siamese has a very discerning palate.
He tastes only cabernets and zinfadels. My husband dips his finger in
the glass and Tai just laps it up. We have tried other varietals such
as burgandies, etc. and he just smells the drop and turns his nose up.
And as a responsible feline he only takes 2 - 3 tastes and then curls
up to sleep it off. On the other hand, Figaro loves leaf lettuce. I
start making salad and he's bouncing off the walls waiting for me to
drop a piece. He doesn't like head lettuce -- only the thin leaf kind.
Of course, I always manage to drop a piece or two. Also he does not
like red meat. If we try him with a small scrap of steak he won't eat
it -- will have alittle chicken or fish -- no hamburger etc. I think
he's taking after my vegetarian daughter.!!!!

Simon is usually 'in my face' while I'm eating cereal. It's kinda hard to get
the spoon into my mouth when there's a 15 lb cat in the way! Given a choice,
he will sit as close to the bowl as I allow. I keep a plant sprayer on the
table, just in case he forgets *whose* breakfast he's trying to commandeer.

He's gotten selective about the milk he prefers - skim is not very high on his
list

He will also aggressively seek out asparagus, mushrooms, onions (he loves sour
cream and chive potato chips!), and lately, cantaloupe, green and wax beans.
He's also quite fond of lo mein and boneless spare ribs, with or without duck
sauce ;^)

Little Miss Hannah cares not for food consumed by beings having fewer legs
than she. Her ever so delicate digestive system will only tolerate certain
Tender Vittle flavors (not gourmet or turkey) and Iams regular and lite
crunchies.

Do any of our cats eat cauliflower?

Like so many of your furfaces, our family of cats have come from
very dysfunctional backgrounds and indulge in some odd-ball
behavior, but Christopher Robin has come up with a quirk
    that really beats the band.

Chris loves a plate of warm, boiled cauliflower, for him it's
a treat. We found out after he stole several pieces from my
plate. Now it's his treat-of-choice after a dose of antibiotics.

The others like ham, salmon, shrimp, steak, chicken breast and

My Pepurr will eat just about any cooked veggie, from green beans to
brocolli, carrots, baked beans, etc.....and she is a real
"milk freak"...especially if it's got a bit of sugar in it....like in
the breakfast bowl. She just nudges her way in, pushes the spoon and
whoever is eating the stuff aside, and dives in.

We usually get home fairly late and end up with a bown of soup,
chili, stew or sandwiches on a tray in front of the "boob-tube", and
this little Black Feline Witch has a 100% thing about at LEAST checking
out what we have. If we ever have the audacity to stop by Kentucky
Fried or Boston Chicken, (we usually pick up a whole rotisserie broiled
bird..), we can be almost certain to split the meal in 3 portions,
because Pep-the-Mew will INSIST on eating as much as she can get...and
if we aren't fast enuff tearing it into small pieces, she has NO
problem attacking an entire leg or breast and happily chowing it down.
She also sounds like a runaway outboard motor when she eats...her
"purrrr" mechanism going overtime.. She never turns down HER food
either, but since she's a dynamo of motion most of the time, she has
not gained a lot of weight....

I finally threw him a fruit loop and he loved it! It was berry
flavor so I decided to see what he would do with cherry, orange,
lime, and lemon. He liked them all. It was so cute watching him
chew. After about 6 or so, he had had enuf.

My Maine coon kitten, Melody, eats breadcrumbs. She's a funny little
beast! The Fickle still hasn't really gotten used to her - we got
Melody because poor Fickle was so lonely after Nebula died last fall.
She isn't lonely anymore, but the kitten can sometimes be a pest to a
16-year-old kitty who really doesn't want her tail pounced on, etc.!
Melody's purr is so lo-pitched that I can't hear her at all, and Paul can
only just barely hear her. You have to be touching her to feel her
body vibrate to know for sure that she is purring!

Rhiannon, my little vet stray, has the same afinity for yogurt that
my last cat had; and she absolutely refuses to let me eat one of those
frozen-fruit-on-a-stick bars without giving her some. She sits waiting,
not terribly patiently, on my lap while I eat most of it. When I forgot
(only once) to give her the last little bit, she actually stuck her
paw into my mouth and tried to pull the food back out!!

To make a short story long, my daughter is old enough to eat solid food
and to like to feed herself. Peas make a good item for this. However
when she is done with whatever it is she is eating she flings it.
All 3 of our guys have a fondness for peas, as well as other more
reasonable foods (i.e. bits of chicken leg meat) that rain down
from the high chair like manna from heaven. Alas, none of them has a taste for
bannanas or pears(they just duck those).

Thanks,
Keith

My little furball likes...get this.. guacamole.
She can't eat enough of it. It doesn't seem to hurt her, so I
guess it's ok...I'm a new "mother" with this kitten. I got her in
Nov, very tiny and very cute..now she's gaining weight, and eating
anything she wants. She's still a bit petite.

Guacamole is mushed up avacado - used in Mexican recipes, dips, etc.

Don't care for it myself - too green and mushy!!

Avocadoes are the butter of the fruit kingdom (seriously - they're the
only fruit that has a high enough fat content to be specifically
excluded from "eat all you want"). This may explain why some cats like
it - I've had two now who seem very fond of it. Phillip (aka The Velvet
Bat) especially likes to fish a chunk of avocado peel out of the sink
(OK, so I'm not a scrupulous housekeeper) and carry it around the house
    to play with.

And the other day I caught him lapping condensed tomato soup from
    the open can...

[Have I mentioned that he also likes marshmallows?]

141.137Guacamole & AvocadoesKAHALA::JOHNSON_LLeslie Ann JohnsonThu May 19 1994 14:5813
Welll.....quacamole is more than mushed avocadoes. :-) Guacamole is a dip made
of avocadoes, lime juice, garlic, maybe some tomato, hot peppers in some form,
and maybe some cilantro. There are various versions. My husband makes the
best in the world :-), even people who think they don't like it have found
the one he makes to be tastey. Guacamole is generally eaten with corn chips
(but not Fritoes).

Avocadoes are high calorie but the fat they have is the good, low cholesterol
type of fat, and I think they're high in vitamin C. They're green, soft, and
"buttery" but kind of bland tasting in and of themselves so they act as a good
foil for other flavors like lime, garlic, etc.

Magic(my little black kitty) likes popcorn. Everytime I pop some she is
sticking her face in the bag wanting a piece or two (which she gets).
She also seems to like watermelon. I had some the other day and she
jump into my lap and started licking away.

Abby (my little tan kitty) likes honey. I spilled some once and she was
on the spot cleaning up my small mess. Once in a while I make sure I
    give her a small taste.

141.139Cat who LOVES olives!TPSYS::HILBERTFri Aug 26 1994 12:4216
    Hi,

Just came across the strangest thing with my kitties. I and my SO were
eating green olives the other night and after we were through and
washed our hands, my kitties were going nuts over the juice that was
apparently still left in my fingers to the point that he was biting me.

I did give my kitty 1 olive and he reacted to it like a cat does with
catnip! I was shocked when he ate the whole thing and wanted more (I
didn't give him anymore after that though).

I was just wondering what is in these olives to make a cat want them
    so badly!?

141.140Could it be the salt?WMOENG::NEUVONENFri Aug 26 1994 13:534
I wonder if it's the saltiness that they liked? Our cats love to lick
our hands, legs, arms (even feet!). The only thing that I can think of
is they like the salt. Green olives tend to be very salty... Hmmm.

Max will walk a mile to get Wheat Thins, and has perfected a scooping
