78.0. "SCOTTISH FOLDS " by CRUISE::NDC (Putiput Scottish Folds DTN:297-2313) Fri Dec 13 1991 07:28

Well, I just had to start a note on Scottish Folds. I'll
enter a brief description here and go dig up the breed standards
at some point in the future.

Scottish Folds can all trace their ancestories back to Suzie
a white barn cat from Perthshire, Scottland. Suzie is the first
known Scottish fold. I, personally, can trace most of my folds
back to Suzie via Snooks, one of her daughters and one of two
folds imported to the United States.

The breed is only about 25 years old and is just starting to become
more popular in this area of the country (New England) thanks to
the hard work of some good breeders.

The most unique feature of Scottish folds is their ears which
are folded forward giving them an owlish appearance. They
also have BIG round eyes, short muzzles, round heads, cobby
bodies and very plush coats. Their build ranges from medium
to stocky and the are considered a medium sized cat. Females
usually run around 8 lbs and males around 10-12 however I have
seen folds as small as 5 lbs (Bonnie, aka perma-kitten, 2.5 yrs old)
and as big as 13 lbs (Angus Archibald MacKitten - 8 months old!)

Many people do not realize that a straight-earred cat must be
part of a fold breeding pair. This straight-ear may be an
American or British Shorthair, or it may be a Scottish fold
that did not inherit the gene for folded ears. For this
reason, some of the kittens will have folded ears and some
will have straight-ears. The cats with straight-ears are
called "straight-ear folds" (Is that an oxymoron?) or
"Perk earred folds" and have all the traits of their folded
    siblings except the folded ears.

All kittens look alike at birth. Most fold breeders I know won't
hazzard a guess as to which kittens will "fold". Only about
one in three kittens will have the folded ears. The ears fold
    between 21 - 28 days of age.

Scottish folds are probably one of the more difficult breeds for
the first time breeder. Fold breeders often keep more breeding
cats than breeders of other types because of the need for the
fold/straight-ear pairring. Things are further complicated by
the fact that a fold's ears may start out tightly folded in
kittenhood and then "unfold" as the cat matures. Also, problems
such as stiff tails may develop as the cat gets older.

The fold personality can be described as "comical". They are
truely the comedians of the cat world. The cats in my lines
are known for sitting and sleeping in rather "embarrassing"
positions - especially in the ring cage at the show!

Folds are very affectionate, playful cats with an energy level
about 1/2 way between persians and aby's. They are little
mischief makers and want to be in the middle of whatever is
happening - especially if its making the beds. There is a
secret union of Scottish Folds called the SFBU (Scottish fold
    bedmakers union).

I am currently owned my more cats then I'd care to count including
five 2.5 week old kittens. Wednesday is day 21........

I didn't know about Suzie the while fold barn cat!! Was this some

If by fluke you mean genetic mutation - yup. Just like the curly
hair in cornish rexes, the lack of hair in the sphinx and the lack
of tail in the Manx's. Oh - and the ear shape in the American Curl.

BTW - Looks like two of Halie's 5 kittens are starting to fold
so far and day 21 isn't until Wednesday!!

Ok, I may end up eating my words but I'm going to take a chance.

Looks like 4 of the 5 kittens are folding. One of the boys looks
to be show quality too. Guess Halie's making up for the last litter
where NONE of the kittens folded.

Its definite! I have four folded ear kitties out of five. They
are just starting to "toddle" around the cattery. Kittens are so
much fun!! Looks like I may have another show quality boy.

We are fortunate to be owned by four wonderful furr-people, one of whom
had the very good sense to be born a Scottish Fold. His name is
Marnie, which is short for Ears 2 U Grand Marnier, he is a classic red
& white tabby. He is the definition of adorable, and is the fun loving
    bon vivant of the house.

I just wanted to announce that Mardee's Marmalade of Putiput has
had 6 kittens so far by Putiput's Silver Shadow. I'm alot concerned
because we brought home a nasty URI from the last cat show - as
Pat Murphy can attest to, since her crew has the same thing - but I'm
keeping my fingers crossed and washing everything with bleach.

Right now it looks like we have 3 creams, 3 silver/smoke/blue's and
one silver patch with white or tortie and white. They're still wet
    and its hard to tell.

I also wanted to mention that I have two kittens out of Halie's last
litter that are available for sale. Both are quite the characters.
Two males - one black and white with folded ears who has been
nicknamed "Dancer" and one straight-ear black smoke and white.

They were born on 11/27/91 and have received two shots each so far.
Dancer is $250 and the little straight-ear is $100. The father is
    BRYRIC's Robileu of Albannach.

It was nice to see photographs of fold kittens as well as straight-eared
kittens in the the most recent issue of the CFA Alamanac featuring the
Scottish Fold breed. Also, I had never seen a brown ticked tabby fold
before. Is this a common color/pattern?

I don't envy you Nancy. Poor Marmie too! All those babies to feed.
Do you have any P/D you can start feeding her? Hope all her nipples
are in good working order. :')

I hope that all 8 babies make it. It is so hard with that many.

    Jo

PS - Dick and Debbie Kallmeyer have gotten some ticked tabby folds in
the last few years. But, there's were ticked tabby with white. The
white makes them a bit flashier.

Oh, and this weekend, there was an American Shorthair kitten that was
listed in the catalog as a brown patched mackerel tabby, but in reality
it was a ticked tabby. Ticked tabby is not an allowable pattern in
American shorthairs and the owner was trying to get around that by
registering it as a brown patched tabby. But, the judges knew the
difference and most of them disqualified it.

78.13SANFAN::BALZERMAFri Feb 07 1992 11:0911

Jo, my eye must have gone directly to the white of the Kallmeyer's
cats and did not pick up on the ticking at all. Guess that's why
    people call it "flashy". :')

To me there seems to be an obvious difference between a brown patched
tabby and a brown ticked tabby. Am i missing something? I cannot
imagine knowingly putting up a cat with the incorrect coat color
trying to "get around" the standard...

The ASH in question looked as though it might have been a hybrid (Aby x
ASH) because it had rufusing (the red undertone of the Aby). So, with
the red there, there is a chance that the breeder really thought that
the cat was a brown patched mackerel tabby, but more likely, the
breeder wanted the cat to be shown and knew that ticked tabby is not a
recognized pattern in ASH's, so just registered it as a brown patched
mackerel tabby. Only about half the judges disqualified it.

Blake, Dennis, and Lea Costa and I were all standing not too far from
Joan's ring when the cat was judged and we all picked up on it right
away. And then we waited to see what Joan would do. She immediately
checked the coat for the barring of a ticked tabby and then put the cat
back in it's cage and DQ'd it. A little while later, I passed Joan
on the way to the ladies room and she said "I can't believe someone put
that Hybrid ticked tabby ASH in my ring!!". :')

I think that the ticked tabby could have been shown as an AOV American
Shorthair, but I am not sure. AOV would mean that it couldn't win any
awards or make any finals though.

I could use some prayers these days. Virtually every cat in my house
is sick right now with the exception of Marmie and the babies.
Robileu and Angel have had this URI and are over it. Everyone else
has it in various stages of severity. ALl the cats are on either
    clavamox or amoxicillin.

If the kittens get this I will most likely lose them all. So far
they are gaining weight and doing very well.
      Thanks

Keep the chlorox and water handy and spray down before you touch the
babies or mom, every time. Also, if they aren't isolated from the rest
of the household, you better do that. And, like I said in mail, I know
lots of people that have had good luck using the CVR intranasal vaccine
on young kittens as soon as their eyes are open (I think it is one drop
in each eye and one drop in the nose).

One of the kittens is under 4 oz and I"m worried about him. I've

78.26I still have EIGHT kittens.COASTL::NDCPutiput Scottish Folds DTN:297-2313Mon Feb 17 1992 08:3990
Well, its been a real battle all weekend, but I'm happy to
report that I STILL have 8 kittens. Seven of them are happy
    and healthy and very active.

I came very close to losing the eighth kitten and he's not out
of the woods yet so keep praying or whatever you folks are doing.
He was very congested and rather dehydrated. I was pumping him
up with lactated ringers and I noticed a difference once I started
    getting him hydrated again.

However I couldn't get more than a few drops of kitty-lac into him
before he'd start coughing. I knew I couldn't keep him going on just
lactated ringers and worse, I couldn't get the clavamox drops into
him either. I decided to talk to the vet about tube feeding him.

Dr. Harris is out of town and things got crazy on Saturday for
Dr. Syed. He wasn't able to call me until 3:00 pm. By that time
I had decided to chuck the clavamox (figuratively) and go to
Chloromycetin Palmetate (VERY strong antibiotic) . Cindy Gerry had
advised me to get some of this quite a while ago and to save it until
I was sure I was going to lose a kitten. Its a last resort medication.
Its also very expensive, but that's not really a consideration here.

The first problem with tube feeding was finding a tube. Dr Syed just
didn't have anything small enough. He advised me to call Weymouth
Vet. Hospital (affiliated with Tufts). They had a couple of catheters
that they sold me ($25!) that were appropriate.

Still I was scared to attempt to insert the tube myself having never
done it. I was afraid I'd accidentally put it down the trachea and
that would definitly do the little guy in. So I called Dr. Syed and
asked him if he would please help me do it. He had to go to Boston
and said he'd call me later when he got back.

At 7:30 pm saturday evening we bundled the little kitten up with
a tupperware container full of hot water to keep him warm and took
he around the corner to the vet's. Dr Syed examined him and said
he was quite congested, including his throat. After clearing a
mucous plug from the kitten's throat with a wet cotton swab,
Dr Syed was able to get him to take about 1.5 cc's of kitty lac!
No wonder the little guy couldn't eat!

We decided not to put the feeding tube down and to continue trying
to get him to eat with a dropper. And we decided to continue the
Chloromycetin Palmetate. Dr. Syed made sure I was giving the right
dose at the right frequency. (every 8 hours)

I discovered that I still have to use the lactated ringers, but I"m
able to get the little fellow to eat about 2-3 cc's of kitty lac at
a feeding and he's much much more active. This morning he was even
climbing over his brothers and sisters tho he wasn't really trying
to nurse yet. Also, he moved his bowels sometime during the night.

This morning he bitched and complained throughout his feeding and even
tipped over the little plastic container of pedialite that I use to
flush his mouth after kitty-lac. He's holding his head up and crawling
    around quite a bit.

And you know .... Dr Syed didn't charge me anything for the visit
Saturday evening! He told me that seeing this little guy healthy
    would be payment enough.

So I owe BIG thanks to the following people:

Jo Ann Cordes Brown for her advice about lactated ringers, pedialite,
emergency kitty formula and tube feeding.

Cindy Gerry for her advice about the Chloromycetin palmetate and for
teaching me how to give sub-q shots.

Dr. Syed for seeing this little guy at 7:30 pm after a truely trying
day alone in the clinic and for noticing the mucous
                        buildup in the kitten's mouth.

Jack for his support and help - I never doubt for a second that he
loves the kitties and respects life. Whatever
happens in our relationship I will always love
him for his love of animals and respect of life.

ALL THE FELINERs and my other friends who have offered advice, support
                        prayers and help.

And especially to God (or whatever it is that guides our lives) for
offering me these opportunities to learn and love.

(Now before I go completely sappy!!!!)

Well, I'm very sad to report that I lost my little guy. He was
doing so well this morning and I"m so nervous about doing anything
to jeapordize my job now that Jack and I are splitting, that I
decided to go to work til noon.

Well, he got out of the nest and I found him on the floor all
cold. He was still alive when I got home around 1:15, but he
was so severely congested, plus I couldn't get him to swallow
at all. I warmed him up and even built a steam tent for him, but
    he just didn't make it.

He'll be burried in the back yard next to Bonnie's little guy.
Hopefully their spirits will return to me in a future litter.

In the meantime the other seven are beautiful and show no signs
of illness. I guess that's a small miracle too, eh?

I *HATE* losing kittens! And I think that's good because I fight
like h*ll to save them all. I want a perfect record.

Well, I was tallying up the score this morning. Out of 34 kittens
born in my cattery, I've lost 2. That's a 94% survival rate (so far).

Jo - I want you to know that you are still my role model. Some of
the breeders I talk to seem to have such defeatest attitudes when it
comes to kittens. But you were my first experience with dealing
with sick kittens and you give 150% to them regardless.

    I refuse to accept defeat!

This was a real learning experience for me so it was not a loss. What
I learned may enable me to save another kitten in the future.

I was lucky in that a friend of mine, who is now working for a
mortgage company, showed up to talk to me about refinancing the house
shortly after I'd found that the little guy was gone. I was still
all weepy and Vinni gave me a big hug. It helped alot.

A few weeks ago I lost one of my six Joui babies. He was 7 weeks old
at the time. I had noticed that he has slowed on activity, but he was
eating, drinking, completely hydrated, and not running a temp so I had
made him a vet appointment for the next day.

That same day, Ken had an asthma attack and I had to rush him to the
hospital. We spent the entire day at the hospital. When we returned
home that night, totally exhausted, I found my little guy had not
survived the day. :') I nearly came unglued with guilt over not being
there. But, having nearly lost my husband, I was able to overcome
those feelings and put the death into perspective.

It is not easy to lose a kitten. As breeders we go to extreme lengths
to save them all. I think that we should go to extremes to save them
all, but when we lose one, we have to try and accept it and not let it
    knock us down.

I went ahead and necropsied my baby and discovered that he had
aspiration pneumonia. I have never been so happy to have a culture
grow as I was with this kitten's mucous culture grow. That growth meant
that we had a definitive diagnosis and we knew what happened to him.
Knowing it was pneumonia made it easy for me to go back to his brothers
and sisters and know what to look for. Turned out the female had it
too, but we got her on meds right away and she has recovered nicely.
They are now 12 weeks old and doing great.

Nancy I am very flattered by your praise. I would say that if your
mortality rate is 6% (? I suddenly can't remember the number), then
you are doing great. As the very wise Cin Gerry once pointed out to me
after I had lost a kitten, the national average is 25% mortality, so
    you are doing great!! :')

    Jo,

What is aspiration pneumonia? I have heard this term before, and know
it is not linked in any way to the pneumonia associated with viral (or
bacterial) illness. Is it when food or mucous is inhaled into the
    trachea?

78.46more on aspiration pneumoniaMUTTON::BROWNTue Feb 18 1992 13:4013
Aspiration pneumonia occurs when food or water are inhaled into the
lungs and then begin to decay and cause bacteria. It is a bacterial
pneumonia (hence the growing of the culture). This can sometimes
happen when you force feed kittens or cats.

In our case, the kittens acquired this problem on their own during
weaning. We had to wean them young, at 4 weeks, for various reasons.
In the first few days of weaning the kittens would all put their faces
down into the slush and try to suck it. Two of them must have inhaled
the food. It was three weeks from weaning that the pneumonia became
    apparent.

How did the kitten die or how do spectators help transfer germs from
    cat to cat?

If the latter, if you pet a cat at a show, and then pet another cat,
you could inadvertently transmit disease from one cat to another. Due
to the nature of most of the cat viruses, cats can be harboring
illnesses before they show outward signs. So, a perfectly healthy
looking cat could be carrying a virus that would then spread through
the showhall as spectators go from cat to cat, petting them.

    Jo
78.68CRUISE::NDCPutiput Scottish Folds DTN:297-2313Tue Mar 10 1992 12:4237
That's where this URI came from and since its a virus, antibiotics
only help the cat from coming down with other things while its
resistance is weakened from the virus.

This is a particularly nasty virus. It hangs on for A LONG time,
responds to *nothing* and hits the youngest cats the hardest.

I still have three sick 4.5 week old kittens. If I'm *lucky* I'll
end up with some corneal scaring and a kitten blind in one eye. I
may have to have that eye removed.

This has been the worst nightmare of my life! So the next time an
exhibitor snaps at you for touching their cat, I hope you'll understand
why that person is being so harsh.

What I *need* and I intend to set up, now that Jack has moved out,
is an isolation room, and I'll have to put Shadow in there when he
comes back from a show from now on. Had I done that I *may* have
been able to avoid this. Or - not.....This URI had such a long
incubation period (time before cat shows any symptoms) that I might
have concluded that he was safe and brought him out of isolation
    before the onset of symptoms.

This past weekend was "The weekend from hell". Not only did Jack
move out and I lost my second kitten from this litter, but I also
had *MAJOR* power problems on Sunday that resulted in many of my
appliances being "fried". I lost my cable box, my alarm system,
two cordless phones, several lightbulbs, my $550 air purifier,
Terminal, Modem, surge protector. I figure its gotta get better
    from here. :^)

I'll be on *vacation* (insanity leave? ;^) starting tomorrow and
I'll be back on the 18th. I will be at the show in Westerly.

    Nancy,

I'm sorry to hear of your loss, but please don't be so hard on the
spectators. A lot of viruses are airborne, and cats can catch them
without any human intervention or contact whatsoever. Part of the
reason I don't show anymore (and I don't even breed) is due to the fact
that my cats were constantly getting sick. It's a lot of fun, but also
very stressful, at least for me.

I just feel to come out and place blame on the spectators is unfair. I
won't deny that many of them feel *entitled* to touch a breeder's cat
without asking permission but the majority of them (that I have
encoutered anyway) did ask first. And if I said yes, the consequences
    were mine to bear.

Anyway, please don't think I don't feel for your situation because I
do. I haven't been there with kittens, but have been there with cats,
and it's a lot of work, frustration and tears.

    Nancy,

I'm really sorry to hear about the babies; URI's are horrible.

As for the fried appliences. Due to an accident that occured when
I was installing my range hood, I blew 4 circuits in the house, a
$500+ electrion bill. Since it was an accident, I and I was upset about
the bill, I decided on a whim to call my homeowner's insurance company
(I have METPAY). They paid all but $200 (my policy deductible). Had I
fried any appliences, or the stuff in my refigerator or freezer,
they would have replaced them at replacement cost they told me. I didn't
get a hard time, and got my $$$ in just over a week after they got the
bill. If the power went out due to the power company or an "act of
God" (weather, someone hitting a pole, blackout), the insurance company
will probably cover you). However, if the computer equiptment belongs
to DEC, and not you, they probably won't cover that (but if you have
your cc mgr put it under contract and then you bring it in to be fixed,
you should be ok). Anyhow, it can't hurt to give your insurance
    company a call.

There are known hazards that come with showing, one of them is the risk
of infections.....please don't take it out on the spectators....many of
them don't have a clue. I stopped going to shows because I experienced
so many nasty attitudes that it wasn't fun.....I wanted to learn and
ask questions.....and all I got was a bad taste.

78.74Nebulizers are supposed to work wonders for URIsJUPITR::KAGNOKitties with an AttitudeWed Mar 11 1992 12:5025
The latest issue of NBF (National Birman Fanciers) had an article
about the use of a nebulizer to combat URI's in small kittens and grown
cats. Many breeders are now utilizing this process to help antibiotics
penetrate to the lung area where it is most needed to treat the virus.
The nebulizer is a small chamber you put the animal into and it works
sort of like a vaporizer only better. I will have to bring the article
in and type it into this string, or maybe a new note where it can be
    keyworded as such.

Michele is correct: There is a certain amount of risk that accompanies
breeding and showing cats where illness is concerned. That is why a
proper cattery set-up/isolation quarters are so important for the
experienced breeder. When I was showing my alters, I would simply
bring them home and release them from the carrier, thereby subjecting
my other cats to all sorts of little nasties. If I had quaranteened
them, perhaps I would not have battled so many URIs and bacterial
    infections.

I am not trying to beat a dead horse here. There are folks in this
conference who are not aware of the risks, and if they are toying with
the idea of possibly showing a cat or two of their own someday, knowing
what the risks are could help them from making the same mistakes I did.

raise all kinds of H*ll. Dancer loves them - now that all his
brothers and sisters are in their new homes he's looking for new
playmates. He's a bit rough but he's learning to be more gentle.

He's still looking for a home, by the way.

CC was finally bred last night too!

I had the pleasure of meeting Dancer this past weekend and he is FULL

Yes, Dancer is quite the character. And let me tell you, its quite
a picture to see Cookie, Dancer and one or two of Marmie's kittens
    curled up in bed together.

Here's the final tally on Marmie's kittens. They have now received
their first shot and will be available for sale soon.

    1. Tortie smoke straight-ear female. WHAT A LOVE! She's the one
who didn't want to eat solid food. I had to keep bottle feeding
her for a while. Well, she finally gave in and started eating
canned food with the rest. She has got the SWEETEST face. Marmie
looks like she's got some Exotic SH in her background somewhere so
this little girl has a bit of the persian or exotic kitten look to
       her.

    2. Silver McTabby with a touch of cream. I think she's really a
silver patched tabby - straight-ear girl. She climbs up my pants
leg all the time! She was one of the first to eat solid food -
she just climbed into the dish, stood in the food and ate :^)
She still does that with dry food. *reserved* She may be going to
       a breeder in Maine.

    3. Tortie and white female - folded. Seems to be everywhere she's
not supposed to be. Very very pretty girl. So far, good earset
       and tail.

    4. Cream straight-ear boy. Lots of personality on this boy already.
He'll stand in the middle of the livingroom and yell for attention.
He's the one I thought would be blind in one eye. Both eyes look
       real good!

    5. Cream tabby folded boy. VERY nice eyes and good markings. Very
distinct. He certainly looks showable but whether he'll be top
       show I don't know yet.

    6. Cream folded boy - Looks like I've got a top show quality boy if
he keeps developing like he has so far. TIGHT ears, flexible tail,
wide earset and a head like his dad's (Shadow) - VERY round already.

If you are interested in any of these kittens please contact me.

Also, Halie has been bred to Batman again and I'm hoping for some
    silver classic tabbies.

It depends on the area of the country and the breeder. In New Jersey
pet quality folds START at $400. Around here they go for about $250.

You will also notice that there are different "looks" for folds also.
I breed for a sweet face.

I was reading through my latest CFA Almanac and thought I would share
some Fold news with you. The CFA Board has voted in favor of accepting
the Highland Fold on provisional status! Highland Fold is the name
the breeders have chosen for the longhair Scottish Folds.

Jo -- there is a breeder of LH Folds in Morgan Hill named Jo Ann
Hinkle. Do you know her personally, and have you seen her cats?
Some of her cats are depicted in the new breed atlas I recently
    received on mail order.

I used to know Jo Ann Hinkle when I was showing TICA many years ago.
Haven't seen her since. TICA didn't allow LH folds back then either,
so I don't recall ever seeing any of her LH's.

I do know that Jo Ann Hinkle and I use the same travel agent for our
cat show excursions though. That benefits both of us since the travel
agency really, really knows how to book cat in cabin spaces now. :')

I am pleased to announce the birth of three special Putiput folds.

CC's litter was born Sunday evening (May 24th) and she handled it
like a real pro. I didn't have to do a thing! This is her first
litter and she's as good a mom as Halie.

She had two tortie and white girls who at birth had striking color
and a boy - either brown or silver tabby (hard to tell yet) who also
has beautiful markings. No obvious tail faults so far. (Dad is
    Bryric's Robileu)

As with Halie's kittens, these little ones were VERY active right
from birth. I mean, she hadn't even delivered the placenta yet
and they were trying to get to the nipples.

I'm very excited about this litter.

I am also very very pleased to announce the birth of Halie's latest
litter! She delivered SEVEN kittens - in the same box with CC -
    yesterday afternoon.

The two of them (CC & Halie) INSIST on being together so there
are two adults and 10 kittens in a jumbo litter box that I use for
a kitten box! Its hysterical! CC thinks the kittens are hers
    too.

I will admit to being concerned that one of the kittens might get
crushed but right now there isn't alot I can do. I am working on
setting up a bigger container for them.

Halie had a mostly black or black smoke and white,
                brown tabby
                brown tabby w/white
                silver tabby
                mostly white with silver tabby

Well, anyone who would like to see Scottish FOld kittens in
"person" - I'll be at the ACFA show at the Newman School on
Sat/Sun Jun 27/28. I have a sales cage and will have four
Marmie-Shadow kittens with me for sale including
PUTIPUT'S MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE (Maxi) who is a smoke tortie
    straight-ear.

Hint - Since these kittens are 4.5 months old AND
I have so many kitties AND the mortgage is due, I'd be very interested
in "Making a deal" with good kitty homes. I have also decided to
sell all the kittens as Pets including the one I thought might
    be a show quality fold.

The final count on CC's litter is one tortie and white folded girl.
And BOY does she have good ears! I hope her tail stays as flexible
as it is now. The other kitten is a brown tabby boy straight-ear
with a Beautiful sweet face. He's a big boy too.

It looks like Halie has given me a litter of almost all straight-ears
again!!!!!!!! Mostly girls - I have a brown tabby, brown tabby with
white (VERY pretty), mostly black or black smoke/little white (ALREADY
VERY PEOPLE ORIENTED), two very sweet-faced white with black girls -
one may be folded, a mostly silver tabby/white girl and a mostly white
with silver boy. True to form they are all VERY healthy, active and
have gorgeous markings, big eyes and sweet sweet faces. WHY Can't
I get this with folded ears!

CC and Halie have decided that the kittens should be kept in my
closet so that's where they are now and at night I take two or
three of them in bed with me for a bit while I read. These guys
are going to make fantastic pets! (And this may be Halie's last
litter considering her track record for folded-ear cats).

I will be asking $125 for the straight ear kittens with full papers.

Also, Angel (SILVER CLASSIC TABBY SE) was bred to Silkisiu's Panda
and looks to be pregnant. Panda is a black and white who throws
kittens with tight earsets and long flexible tails. This litter has
great potential and if it turns out to be as good as I hope will
become the foundation for my breeding program from here on out. I'm
hoping to produce a couple of really good folded girls to breed back
to Batman and I will retire Bonnie, Halie and probably CC & Shadow too.

first kitten shots. Three are folded -

"Cowflop" (Yvonne Colaianni named her) - a beautiful little tortie with
    a bit of white - double fold female. (I believe she's sold)(CC/Robileu)

    UPCOMMING EVENTS:
Angel/Panda - due August 1st. Angel is a silver classic tabby SE
with HUGE gold eyes. Panda is a TOP show folded male
                    black and white.

Bonnie/Batman - due August 30th. For those of you who have seen
Tiffany and Suki, this is a repeat breeding. Bonnie
is a silver patched tabby/white van (color on
extremities) and Batman is a black smoke and white.
(Black smoke = silver tabby w/smoke gene)

Tiffany/Panda - due Sept. 5th. Tiffany is absolutely the sweetest
cat I've ever seen. She started purring at 4 days
old and would purr in response to being picked up
at 8 days old (before her eyes were even open). SHe
is a stunning silver patched tabby with white. This
                      will be her first litter.

The vet examined Angel on Saturday and could find no sign of illness.
The kittens appeared normal and fully formed.

I will probably have Angel, Tiffany and Panda's blood typed to see
if it might have been that. Tiffany is due in September.

Thanks for all your support. Guess my cattery is having its
    share of troubles right now.

I will say one thing... there is NOTHING more comforting than a
9 week old kitten crawling into your lap, looking up at you
with BIG adoring kitty-eyes and purring away.

    That's Halie's folded girl.

Nancy,

So sorry to hear about your loss. I know how tragic that can be.

I was devestated when Missy lost her litter. After I fought so hard
trying to keep them alive.

Hoping things will be better for you with your upcomming liter.

Again my condolences.

Valerie

Good news from Nancy DC - Mike is out of the hospital but best part is
Bonnie presented Nancy DC with three beautiful silver and white
kittens this morning and so far everything looks good! She said it sort
of makes up for for losing Angel'd litter. Now if they'll all fold..... :^)

That's great news. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it to Nancy's
Saturday as I was very ill Friday and Saturday with allergy attack.
She still sounded so depressed when I spoke to her Saturday morning.
Hopefully things will now get better for her and Mike.

I'm on the phone with Nancy right now, and she is feeling much better.
Mao is still not home, but she has done everything in her power to try
to find her. Her neighbors are being great. Mao is a very friendly
kitty, so hopefully she has adopted another family and it's just a
matter of time before they catch up with Nancy's ads.

She is still welcoming phone calls, so don't be shy about calling!!

Nancy forwarded me this message this morning, and I am entering it in

Subj:	Tiffany's babies!

Well, I'm going to make the official announcement. Tiffany has three
babies. They are doing fine 32 hours after the birth of the last one
so I think its safe to say they are going to survive beyond whatever
killed Angel's kittens.

We have two boys and one girl. The boys are both red and white. One
is mostly red with just a bit of white and the other is a van (mostly
white with spots of red on his head and tail) The girl is a silver
patched tabby! Her head is obviously rounder than the other two
already. I hope she folds!

Bonnie's babies continue to do very well. The little boy is really
BIG relative 1.
oops - kitten on the keys.....
relative to the other two. He's just growing exceptionally fast. He's
gorgeous!!

Keep in touch.

Moderators, I didn't know where to put this except relative to the
    breed Nancy Diettrich put in.

Nancy just lost her Dad over this past weekend. He was very ill with
kidney disease plus other complications. She called me last night to
let me know. I'm sure she'd appreciate a sympathy card from her
friends in Feline; she's been through so much since leaving DEC.

78.140Scottish Folds Needing Homes!!!!MODEL::CROSSWed Sep 01 1993 12:2846
If this is in the wrong place, please move. I didn't know whether to
put it here due to the nature of the topic, or whether to put it under
Cats Needing Homes... but here goes:

Nancy DC called me today because, unfortunately, the company she now
works for has folded and she is once again unemployed. This is very
hard on her, and she must lower her headcount.

Many of her favorites are now up for adoption. Her main concern is
that they find good homes....they will be adopted out on a case by case
basis. A donation would be accepted, if offered. She asks too that
for cats which are not spayed or neutered, the prospective owner would
foot the bill. Her vet charges $45 for a neuter, $65 for a spay. The
cat could then be placed in his/her new home. Again, the main concern
    is for the cat.

Shadow is neutered and up for adoption.

Angel is spayed and up for adoption.

Bonnie's daughter Suki is up for adoption.

Mindy and Megan, Shadows' sisters, are up for adoption.

    Batman is up for adoption.

Nancy also has a few litters up for adoption, but most are straight
eared folds. She has a gorgeous Cream Classic Tabby with copper eyes
who needs a special home. He is a bit skittish and doesn't "need"
    humans. :-)

She also has a golden tabby and a blue cream up for adoption.

All these cats range in age from 5 weeks (Cici's kittens) on up to
    four years.

If you are interested in owning a purebred Scottish Fold, please
call Nancy at home at (617) 849-9771. You may also try her today
at work where she is packing up.... (617) 356-5200.

If you are interested in a book about folds, she does have some
copies of a great book that she is asking $5 a piece for.

    Thanks,

    Nancy
