9.9Foster & SmithMUTTON::BROWNTue Jan 28 1992 19:2017
    Foster & Smith carries everything from vaccines to cat toys. They
    have products for birds, horses, dogs and cats. The company is owned
    and operated by two vets, and you can speak directly to a vet if you
    have a question. I have found their prices to be relatively good, but
    slightly more expensive than RC Steele. They also carry a few
    prescription items like Droncit, Oxytocin, Panalog, Amoxicillin, etc.
    But you must have an RX from your vet in order to purchase these items.

9.10RC SteeleMUTTON::BROWNTue Jan 28 1992 19:2415
    RC Steele Veterinary Supplies offers mostly items for dogs, but have a
    large section of cat items too. They have grooming supplies, litter
    boxes, scratching posts, tokyo cages, window perches, leashes and
    harnesses, Nature's Miracle enzyme cleaner, etc. They do not carry
    vaccines, or RX items. They are really big on dog crates, kennel, and
    carriers.

	I have a catalogue here from the Mail Order Pet Shop. I haven't
	ordered anything from them yet, but the prices appear to be pretty
	good. Like R.C. Steele, they carry many dog items, but have quite
	a bit of cat stuff as well. A couple of examples are: Cat Love
	Treats at 100 for $1.99 (I've paid up to $4 for this in stores,
	and they're hard to find); a Booda "Big 6" Giant Catpan for $7.49.
	There is no minimum order, they accept AmEx as well as the regular
	cards, and there is no shipping charge - only a $4.99 handling fee
	no matter what size the order. They have both an East and West
	Coast warehouse to expedite orders, and their order line is open
	24 hours/day, 365 days/year.

    I go to Dr. Mulcahy in Leominster, and I'm pretty sure she
    only charges around $40-45 for a female, so a male must be
    even less than that.

    Another alternative is to get a spay/neuter certificate from
    the Friends of Animals. I believe the price is $38 for
    a spay (female) - not sure about a neuter, but again, it will
    be even cheaper. Their number is 800-321-PETS.

    Good luck

9.18Lost/found national hot lineASD::DIGRAZIAThu Sep 10 1992 09:5722
	Hot line for lost and found pets.

	From a Gannett News Service report I found in a newspaper somewhere.
	(I can't remember which paper...)

	American Humane Association set up a 24-hour hot line to help people
	report found pets, and find lost pets.

	To report a found dog or cat, call 800 755 8111

	To register a lost pet, call 900 535 1515  ($1.95 / minute.
	Profits pay for the 800 number and benefit the Humane Association.)

	Regards, Robert.

	PS I just called to report a found cat. You need a touch-tone
	phone. The machine asks for your phone number and zip code, and
	numerous characteristics of the found animal. E.g. it asked me
	for cat's age (kitten, adult, senior), principal colors, hair
	length, tail length (short, long), special characteristics, gender.

We're now well into puppy and kitten season. Cute? Hardly.
They won't all find good homes. There's just too many of
them. Plus too many of them that are now dogs and cats.

The pet population problem in the United States generates
millions more cats and dogs than there are homes for every
year. This becomes millions of pets abandoned and euthanized
every year.

There are two things you can do to help. First and most
effective, you can spay or neuter your pet. This stops
contributing to the population, not only your pet's
offspring but potentially hundreds or even thousands of
its descendents.

Second, you can adopt your next pet from your local animal
shelter. This helps the pet that's already on the planet
and needs a good home. Unless someone will be home all
day for the first six months, a dog or cat is a better choice
than a puppy or a kitten.

Where are the shelters?

9.34Cat Diapers/Stud PantsCATMAX::SKALTSISDebWed Mar 20 1996 09:1719
    If anyone is looking for stud pants or diapers, thre is a company
    called Paws and Claws that had an ad in the April 1996 Cat Fancy (page
    47). It sounds like they might have a catalog since they talk about
    them comming in a number of sizes, colors and styles, including custom
    sizes.

       "The pants have a slit to allow the tail to fit through and a
    	harness that goes around the cat's torso and neck. Adjustable
    	hook and loop fasteners on the side allow for a perfect fit.
        Each machine-washable pair includes a vinyl pocket liner that
        holds a disposable pad.

       "The pants are made for male or female cats and come in a variety
    	of colors and sizes, including custom. Prices range from $18 to
    	$25, plus $4.50 for shipping and handling. To order, contact
    	Paws and Claws, Dept. KK-cF, P.O. Box 7332, Suffolk, VA 23437;
    	(804) 539-9462."
