Conference misery::abc_soaps

    I would like to thank you all for my Birthday cake and cards last
    night.  I had a great time!!!  You are all the best and I feel very
    lucky to be a part of a crew like you!!!!  I appreciate you all
    thinking of me.
    
    Today is Liz's (the waitress we had last time) birthday too.  She
    stopped in to see hello several times throughout the evening even
    though she wasn't our waitress.  Last night, we had Judy as our
    waitress.
    
    We missed Janet, Ike, Lou and Kathy B. and the dinner.  But, there were
    twelve of us:
    
    Lisa-Marie, Jean C., Heather V., dc, Kathryn M, me, Meg L., Marie,
    Thel, Pat, "the Very Silent Noter", Roberta and Betty C.  It was such a
    nice time and I'm still full!!!  AND, I put my lipstick on in the
    powder room too!!!

    Good Morning!
         I would like to say how nice it was to meet y'all last night and
    finally put faces with the names.
         Heather V. really started the night off when she told us the news
    about "Ken"...........our response..SHOCK.......and another round of
    drinks.
         For those of you who didn't attend last night, you missed an
    exciting duel between dc and Thel. Even though Thel did drop her sword,
    her superior skills came through as she defeated dc with a
    sword(toothpick)! Thel, you truly are EXCALIBUR!
      Again, a wonderful time was had by all, and I can't wait to go again.

Wow, what a week!  Tall Ships, Ken retires, and a get together with
some of DEC's best people to talk about AMC *and* celebrate Cheryl's
birthday.

It was great meeting all of you who I had not met before, and was
wicked special to see those of you who I already knew.

    Well, as usual the East Coast Dinner went fabulously!  The very silent
    noter brought her camera and snapped away all evening.  Since she had
    attached her zoom lens, I'm sure that picture of Cheryl with her cake
    will be a lovely close-up.  She also has to take credit for supplying
    the very ornate swords, my but Zorro and Scaramouche were finely armed.
    Lisa-Marie turned out not to be the "Once and Future Queen", but we
    were a surprised and please to find she did indeed grace us with her
    presence in the form of Roberta (aka /red), who at the last minute,
    saved Scaramouche's hide by producing the every-winning Excalaber!
    Zorro took a well-placed thrust to the heart from that mightly sword!
    
    As was mentioned before the news of Ken's announcement brought on an
    order for a second round of drinks, shock descended on the gathering,
    but not for long, within 5 minutes the group was back to its happy
    personna.  A couple of announcements, Marie's and another again put us
    in a serious mood, but those 2 people didn't not allow us to remain so.
    Our love and best wishes for these 2 special friends now and in the
    future goes without saying!
    
    Although our waitress, Judy, for the evening is also into Soaps, she just
    didn't have the bouncy personality of Liz.....either that or she was
    too busy to spend much time with us.  At 9:30 the restaurant was still
    calling would-be dinners to their tables.  Dinner was again excellent.
    
    All in all, it was another great evening of fun with friends.  We did
    discuss getting together again before dc returns to California
    permanently (is anything ever permanent?), perhaps a weekend cook out
    at my house in Westminster (come on now it isn't THAT far!).  If anyone
    is interested, let us know.  This is just in the talking stage, but it
    would have to be before summers end.....which happens 3 weeks earlier
    in Westminster than in Maynard.  :-)  dc says he will fly or drive in
    from Albany if the gig.

    I, too had a wonderful time at THE DINNER.  By the way, Cheryl, Betty
    and myself broke the unwritten code and wore FUCHSIA!!!!!  DC
    threatened to rip my top off me, but I wasn't concerned as I was
    prepared (had a tanktop on underneath), but I guess he was too tired
    after his duel :*)  At the dinner Meg and I realized we knew each other
    previously.  We had worked in the same department some years back.
    
    For all of those who put their thinking caps on and were trying to come
    up with the name of the noter who used to update us in the first file,
    I thought of her today....ANNA OSTIGUAY.  
    
    Thel, will Bob be making his wings????  I'll be there!

    I depart Logan Airport Sunday, 7/26 at 4:25 p.m. and arrive in Chicago

    Dinner last Thursday night was too much fun!  (^%  Even though that
    Starr person stood us all up --> AGAIN!  (^%  We can all guess that
    the Starr person's ears are like totally on fire now, since we were
    all talking about her --> all night!  She'll never know about what 
    we said about her very ***** and her rather large *****'s!  (^%  Not 
    to even mention her rather petite ****, wide ***'s and her ***runs!
     
    Like if any one of us were Steph, we'd be like totally red-faced by 
    now!!!!!! (^%
    
    I'm like totally sure that Cheryl was somehow able to apply some of her
    lipstick --> to those lush lips in between courses at the dinner, without
    ever leaving the table!!  (^%  As a matter of fact, I know she did! (^%
    
    Welcome to the VERY silent noter and Betty!  (^%  How did that Roberta
    person ever convince you guys to wear all that FUSCHIA????  (^%  Everytime
    I looked in your direction I was blinded by FUSHCIA, not to mention
    those FUSCHIA polka-dots that Cheryl was so ahem, innocently wearing!  (^%
     
    Lisa-Marie did manage to get in a few jabs and pokes to my stomach, but 
    she was unable to get up the courage to arm-wrestle with me!  Like this
    totally proves that she is all talk and no action!!!!!!  (^% Like maybe 
    Roberta was wearing that tank top under her FUSCHIA shirt, just in case
    I wrestled Lisa-Marie into submission and she needed rescuing!!!!!  (^%
    
    It was great seeing Heather, Jean, Kathryn and Meg again!  (^%  We are
    fast-becoming a totally wild and out-of-control group!!!!!!  (^%  
    When Meg and I eventualy got to sit at the same table it's like being 
    surrounded with great two people who think almost exactly alike!  (^%
    
    Marie --> tapped her vast databanks and answered several tricky and
    difficult AMC and GH history questions! (^%  How does she do it???  (^%
    
    Now for that swordswoman person --> Thelma!  (^%  Zorro was completed 
    overcome with the intensity and fervor that Thelma the COC G --> employed 
    in her zealous sword fight with me!  I still can't believe that I was able 
    to eat and drink my dinner, without it --> all squirting out of the sword 
    holes stabbed into me --> by that ferocious COC G --> Thelma!!!!!  (^%

    A place which reeks of "Chicago Spirit" and also happens to be owned
    by a fellow AMC lover.....yes folks......Oprah Winfrey's place....
    Eccentrics.  Looks like the Steph-ster, Jackie, Mary, Karen, Tracy
    and a few more noters (sorry don't have all the names yet!!) will
    be dining on Oprah's favorite food....SPUDS!!!!!!

    Coming out of O'Hara you would take 190 east to the Kennedy
    which is 90 all the way to the exit which will say Ohio take
    that to LaSalle make a left (which is west) and you pass Ontario,
    Erie (which is the street, but you can't turn that way), then
    make a Right on Chicago until you get to Wells make a right
    and you will run into Erie about a block down.  The address of
    Eccentric's (Oprah's place) is 159 W. Erie.  
    
    There should be parking right there at the place. (I hear
    $4.00 vallet)  I hope that helps you, just in case you need
    them. *^)  Anytime after 4:00 allow over an hour to get downtown,
    traffic is horrible at that time.

    Just wanted you all to know that I am back from Dallas (and extremely
    happy to be back).
    
    I did get to meet Dee Sayers and her hubby.  We went to dinner at
    "On the Border".  Had some good Mexican food and a couple of
    margueritas (make mine strawberry).  Then they took me over to the
    West End and we checked out some of the clubs.  Bought a T-shirt
    from a place called "Alley Cats".  This place was fun.  They have a
    couple of guys on stage playing pianos and singing.  They have alot
    of audience participation stuff and if you don't participate they can
    single you out, drag you on stage and have some fun with you.  It was
    pretty funny.
    
    I had a wonderful time!  Got back to the hotel some time around 2:00am 
    (DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE).  Probably got about 5-6 hours sleep that night
    and was pretty tired the next day. I really had fun and hope that I can 
    get together with them again.
    
    Hey Dee, find a way to get out here to Calif. and I'll take you out on 
    the town!  And, if the MK business goes well, I may be back in Dallas
    again next Seminar. (This time I'll come equipped with armament against
    mold allergies too.)

    I just back into Dallas and say Jan's note.  I met Jan Saturday night
    (like she said) and had a blast!!  The place had a pretty good crowd
    and we didn't have to wait toooo long for dinner.  
    
    Like the Chicago party, I think we should list our attendees.  Let's

    We went to the West End Marketplace.  All of you should come out here
    and go at least once!  While Brian and I had the regular frozen, lime
    with salt on the rim margueritas's, Jan had a frozen strawberry with
    powdered sugar on the rim.  Jan says they don't put the sugar on the
    rim's in California.....maybe there is a NEW business we could start
    out there!!!!!
    
    Jan kept on commenting on how BIG the chips were with the hot sauce. 
    (Guess she forgot that everything is supposed to be bigger and better
    in Texas!!!)  Jan got in later in the evening....I was sitting by the
    phone...so the shops closed by the time we ate and got over to them.
    
    She forgot to mention that we were on a mission for her sister (one
    that I THOROUGHLY enjoyed!!!!).  We were trying to find her sister a
    cowboy, No not Jo!!!  I kept pointing them out and Jan kept
    scrutinizing them.  (What a JOB!!!)  I told her that I thought she
    ought to buy a cowboy hat and go up to "potentials" and tell them "How
    about trying this on for size?"  Jan, did you ever do that????
    
    Well Jan is QUITE the makeup expert.  Without EVEN knowing me she
    brought me lipstick  (LOVE the magenta!!!!!) and nail polish, to match,
    of course.  I had to buy it ALL!!!
    
    dc--->  This is for you.  In the August 1992 issue of Redbook Magazine,
    page 16 (to be exact)  there is an article on "Makeup etiquette: what's
    public, what's private"  Bottom line is (printed without permission, of
    course) "The rules have loosened and it has become more acceptable to
    apply makeup in buses or restaurants." says Veronica Holcomb, an
    executive behavior consultant in New York City.  "But if you do much
    more than apply lipstick - if you whip out a mascara wand, for example,
    people see you as insecure and self-absorbed."  The updated etiquette
    is, It is OKAY to apply lipstick (not lip pencil) at the table.  Do it
    discreetly, and not while you're talking to someone - you'll seem to be
    paying more attention to yourself than to the conversation."
    
    So go ahead ladies.....polish those lips!!!!!!  Maybe you should put
    the lipstick on dc first and let HIM apply it (he probably get's into
    kissy-face routines!!! :*)
    
    Well when Jan, Brian and I were leaving, we had our picture made....we
    all agreed that Brian took the best picture....Jan and I were critical
    of ourselves.  I guess I just have to get used to not having long hair
    anymore.  What a mistake getting it cut!!!
    
    My Santa Clara trip on August 16, got cancelled.  Will try for more
    later.  THANKS for all the updates Tracey!!!!!!  My class just wouldn't
    break for AMC.  The nerve!!!!!!

    Thanks for the "lipstick" update Dee.  See everyone, I am up with the
    times!!!!  I even saw a picture of Barbara Bush in the paper the other
    day touching up her lipstick with the caption"  Barbara Bush touches up
    her lipstick during a ...."  I forget what the rest said.

    Well I was nominated as spokesperson for the "Chicago Dinner" so
    I'll fill you in on the evening. *^)  The evening was alot of fun
    I know I enjoyed it. *^)
    
    Marsha and I were the first to arrive at Eccentrics when we came
    in we gave the name of the reservation and the women wanted us
    to repeat and spell the name of this.  We spelled to her An Li
    and she had already erased it and said oh that's what I had.
    (she obviously doesn't watch AMC. *^))
    
    They wouldn't seat us at the table until the rest arrived, so
    they told us to make ourselves comfortable at the bar.  We went
    to the bar and sat down when shortly after Perky, Jackie, Mary
    and Karen came in.
    
    They did seat us at our table and the nice waiter made his way
    to the table and wanted to know if anyone wanted a coctail.  
    Karen and Mary shared a bottle of fine wine as the waiter opened
    the bottle Karen did the official test to make sure the wine
    was of good quality, which it was.  She did impress us all and
    I think even the waiter was too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  She said
    she had learned this from the winnery. *^)
    
    We all opened the menus shared a few comments and ideas on AMC.
    --dc I was totally out numbered in the antiErica talk!!!!!!!!!!!
    I felt -->>ALL ALONE<<--  as I tried to defend her until the 
    end, but it didn't work.  Jackie kept leading the way to dump
    on poor Erica and her neck. *^)
    
    Shortly after though Steph strolled in and it was a pleasure to
    meet her I was glad she came to Chicago. *^)  The waiter came
    back by a couple of times and was giving us the feeling that
    is was time to order, so we did. I had the hardest time and had to
    be skipped, but we all ordered and I think the waiter was confused.
    
    Oprah's is famous for her potatoes it was a recipe that was
    passsed down from her grandmother, so we were all sure to try
    them and they were good!!!!!!!!!!!!  We all talked and laughed
    more about AMC and Erica of course!!!!!!!!!!!  I was even more
    out numbered when Steph came. *^)  
    
    We got in even more talk on Helcat Helga and Dimitri who I
    defended also the max!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *^)
    
    We then got to the subject of where Steph's pictures were as
    she explained she didn't have them because of her move, but
    if she did --dc would not allow us to the ones of him!!!!!!!!!!
    We were all a bit upset over this and decided that if we can't
    see his, then he won't see ours.  RIGHT STEPH?!?!?!?!?!!?
    
    When the food came and we went to eat I might add that this
    place had the -->>largest<<-- forks any of us had seen.  We
    weren't sure of why the big forks as we all laughed trying to
    get a grip on this.  Steph said that --dc should have had this
    for his sword fight with Thel. *^)  The forks were almost the
    size of a sword!!!!!!!!!!! *^)  
    
    We snapped quite a few pictures as Jackie, Steph and Karen
    had a camera and as the waiter came to the table he snapped many
    photos of the group and even asked us to stand up to get us
    all in.
    
    We managed to tell Steph since we were seated right behind
    the kitchen with a big red fancy curtain behind us to snap a
    picture.  She was hesitant at first, but she put her camera
    behind the curtain and snapped it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    I hope she got something good!!!!!!!!!!!!! *^)
    
    We looked for Oprah all night and even had a place for her
    if she managed to sneak in, but she never came in. 
    
    After our dinner we got to the dessert menu and Steph had her
    heart set on a dessert until the waiter told her the icecream
    was not to good.  She asked how bad it was and he said pretty
    bad, so she had to reevaluate the desserts.  We ended up getting
    what he recommened as the "Taste of the Day".  BTW, it was a
    chocolate fudge pie with whip cream on the top.
    
    We had a great time talking of everyone and did make sure to
    make a toast to everyone that wasn't there and then the night
    winded down as Marsha and I were the first one's to leave at
    about 8:45p.m.  I'm not sure who was next to go and last. *^)
    
    Had a great time and it was nice meeting all of you and getting
    together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I hope we do it again. *^)  I thought 
    the restuarant was a neat atmosphere.  I hope Steph liked the
    place and Chicago were glad she came. *^)

    Well Dee, I didn't go up to the cowboys and "screen" them for her
    but I did find a postcard with two gorgeous cowboys on it.  I took
    it home and presented it to her when she picked me up at the airport.
    Told her I got a great deal on cowboys that day, two for the price
    of one.  I wish I could have taken her a couple of the cowboys that
    were in the big production numbers and fashion shows at Seminar but
    with thousands of women in the audience and me sitting way up in the
    rafters I just didn't have a chance to get to them.
    
    Can't wait till we have another chance to get together, Dee.  I had
    a mahhvelous time and you guys were great fun.  And, I just can't
    get over how everything in Dallas is free. ;-)

It's definate!  DC's coming to the Boston area again this coming Tuesday (8/4)
so how about doing dinner???  Who's up for it???  

Since Tuesday is just around the corner and since we've had a great time at 
the Crossroads Cafe in Acton, let's do that place again!  OK?

I won't make reservations until sometime Monday (probably afternoon), so this
should give people the rest of today and part of Monday to let me know who's

    If DC is coming from Woburn, he should take Route 3 West, from Rte 95
    (formerly 128), get off at Rte 495 South, then take the Littleton
    Common exit, turning right at the end of the ramp onto Rte 119.  At the
    traffic light he will go straight on Rte 2A.  He should follow this
    road to the first traffic light (at least 2 miles), and turn left at
    the light into the shopping center.  Crossroads is at the left end of
    the shopping center building.

    From the Marlboro Area take 495 North.  Exit 31....go right off the
    ramp....LKG will be on your left, keep going straight, you'll come to a
    set of lights, go straight through, keep going until you come to
    another set of lights (a couple of miles), at the lights take a left

    DC -> To explain the ice cream... I was ALL excited when I saw on the
    desert menu that they had hot fudge ice cream pastry puffs... so I 
    ordered one.  The CUTE waiter told me I should rethink this because
    they were having a problem with the freezer and the ice cream was pretty
    soupy.  I was bummed, but the chocolate fudge pie WAS delightful! :-)
    
    It was a GREAT night, and I was VERY sorry to see it come to a close!!
    I don't think any of us really wanted to leave... as we lingered in the
    lobby trying to extend the night.
    
    I just have to say that I was TOTALLY honored that you all went so out
    of your way to come out and meet me.  I know many of you had long trips,
    and I'm still so warm and fuzzy over the fact that you made it!!  And 
    Oprah's restaurant was like TOTALLY awesome!  I can't get that ultimate 
    potatoe out of my mind! :-)

Sorry about missing the dinner last night.  Just as I was about to leave, I
got an emergency phone call and had to rush home.  The storm causes all sorts
of havoc from flooding to well problems (again).   By the time all the work
people left, it was well after 8:30.

    Who made the dinner last night? I couldn't make it either. As I was
    picking up the kids, it started pouring on me. Needless to say, I
    was drenched to the skin. When I got home, I didn't feel like 
    dressing up again to brave the weather. (Okay, I wimped out!) I
    really didn't want to drive all the way from Nashua, and possibly
    get stuck driving in a downpour, so I wimped out. It doesn't

    Sounds like dinner Tuesday night was a blast!  Wish I could have been
    there, but "that's the way the cookie crumbles".  dc, how sweet of you
    to order that side of salad, just in case  :-)  I'm also very glad you
    didn't have to sit there all by yourself, as I had visions of you doing

    Our commuter van got tied up in traffic on route 117, an old tree fell
    across the road.  I never got home till 6:15, company was already there
    and Bob was worried (he is so sweet).

    Well, I am back From Chicago. Had a great lunch.

    Good to hear that you made it back home safely Dennis.  WOW - did we
    have a great lunch!!!
    
    The first Chicago AMC lunch got off to a little shakey start as Jackie
    and I were seated at the table while Dennis wandered about the
    restaurant trying to figure out how to find us.  But once contact was
    made the fun began.
    
    Dennis brought his brother, Mike, Mike's wife, Vicki and DAVE!!  What a
    crew!!  Of course, Mike and Dave told us that Dennis had found them in
    the parking lot and offered to pay them money if they would act like
    his brother and friend but I could tell they were really related.  
    
    Karen and her friend, Sue showed up just a short while later and the
    real dishing on AMC began.  It was unanimously decided that Erica could
    be killed off and none of us would miss her.  Or at the very least, she
    should get a neck job!! Sorry DC!!  There was a split decision
    regarding the Dixie and Brian pairing although that discussion brought
    out some very interesting revelations about younger men...  Dennis, how
    old did you say you were??
    
    Poor Karen ordered a burger and when it arrived there was this big old
    hair on her pickle!!  Needless to say, we all had ourselves in stitches
    over that.  I think it was about this time that Dave finally came to
    and spoke his first few words!!  And of course there was Sue's
    eyelashes (well, really her mother's) - guess you had to have been
    there!  Jackie had her trusty camera and even if the double flash
    blinded us, we should have some great pictures.
    
    The time went by way too fast and we were all really sorry when it came
    time for Dennis and his group to leave us.  But they were on to another
    party (when you're hot, you're hot) and we all had things to do.  It
    was a truly great lunch and I swear I have not laughed so much in a
    long time!!  
    
    Dennis, don't let so much time go by before you see Mike, Vicki and the
    kids again cause that would mean we could all get together and do lunch
    again!!!  Thanks for a great time.

    Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 1:05 PM.  Weighed  in at 8lbs, 6 ounces and 20 1/2
    inches long.

    is a no-go.

    I received a mail message from a silent noter, read only, who has

    Reservation at Crossroads has been made in the name of Nikki Langton.
    The minute I said that name the lady on the other end of the phone said
    "Oh, you're part of the Soaps group."  We chit-chatted a couple of
    minutes about how good an actress Camille is.  She said they were

    5:30 and we have the little private booth section again.
    
    Good news!!!!  Marie Hopkins will be attending and is looking forward

    Oops, I mistyped it should be IACP (International Association of Chiefs
    of Police).....impressive, say what!  Actually I like your "Internation

    Actually it is usually a good convention and some of the things you see
    in the Exibitions Area are not to be believed!!!!  It usually takes us
    a whole day to cover them, of course I get to carry all the brochures,
    etc.  aren't I the lucky one!  
    
    BTW:   No, dc, they don't give out samples of weapons, cruisers, etc.

    Hey Raq!
    
    Hop on Route 27 toward Acton.  Follow 27 until you get to the junction
    of Route 2A/119.  Take a left at this light (they'll be a mall on your
    left, a Sunoco Station on your right) onto 2A/119. Follow approximately
    2 miles, or until you come to a light. You'll see a mall on your right.
    Go right at the light into the mall lot, and stay left.  
    
    Crossroads Cafe is the establishment on the far left of the mall.
    
    Can't wait to see everyone tonite - and FINALLY meet my material

    Great time last night, too bad so many of you who said you were coming
