rats, I forgot my November copy of Q or I could type the review
in for you. Anyway, from what I remember of it they reckon it's
excellent. He's apparently still singing about such tepid subjects
as Life, Death, and Politics :-) When I remember to bring the rag
in I'll put their opinions in here.

I hate to say this, but this is one of the few releases I have heard lately
that has actually made me ill to listen to, even on repeated listenings (many
songs grow on me once I'm used to the song structure and can concentrate more
on the performance aspects of the material).

To these ears, Sting's voice sounds very insincere and affected this time
around, and the instrumental backing seems a bit too "loose" to support him.

929.6If You really want it, pick it up in the used bin.MUSTNG::PITERAKFri Oct 16 1987 15:1718
I just got the disk last night, put it on the cd player and
promptly fell asleap. Unlike Dream Of The Blue turtles, I just
can't get into this one. I heared absolutely no instances of the
moving melodies and thought-provoking lyrics that make me a follower
of Sting. All that was on the disk was a bunch of lackluster,
repetitive intonations of lyrics that held no meaning for me. I
actually find it hard to believe that this is the same man who wrote
and sang "Russians" and "Children's Crusade".
As to the music, all I can ask is "What happened?". The band
seems to have gone to sleap with the lyrics - and with me.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but I got nothing from this one, though
I'd be pleased to sell it to you for just $10.00.... Well' just
    an idea...

929.7Gee, I like it!AQUA::MPALMERMon Oct 19 1987 16:4817
Well, sorry to break the string of bad reviews, but I really like
    the album.

I picked it up for $12.99 at Strawberries. I've only listened to
it twice, but to me it seems like a nice follow up to 'Dream of...'.
It's not as politically oriented as that one, and unlike .6, I
    enjoyed the lyrics.

He does a cover of a Jimi Hendrix tune ("Little Skies"?). And has
Eric Clapton and Mark Knofler on the album.

It sounds great too! I think it's worth the money.

I like it too and my name isn't Mikey! I agree that it is a bit
different for Sting, but, I don't want the same thing again and
again. I personally don't think he's capable of a really bad
song. Dream of the Blue Turtles it's not, but if your a Sting
fan don't discount it before you hear it.

Oh, yeah, I got it for free. Do you think that's why I like it
    so much?

    Just my opinion!!!

I'm not really a Sting fan, but I heard it last night (my lodger
has a copy) and I thought it was quite good.

The problem is that the first hit from this album IS the "same thing, again
and again". From what I've heard of the rest of the album, repetition is
rather prominent on all of the songs.

I have nothing against Sting changing, or even doing simpler music, but
repetition ad nauseum is unacceptable from any artist.

And I've heard this track, and another one, enough times now to know it's not
going to grow on me as many other pop songs do that initially turn me off.

Still, it's no excuse for Wynton to cut his brother off.

929.11will there be a test on this,Mr. sting?FSHQOA::SBEAUPREout the nextThu Oct 22 1987 19:0912
I reached a Sting saturation point at the time of his last release,
what with the constant flow of video, film, vinyl and print interviews.
It is my opinion from reading and listening to his remarks to the
press that he could enter his ego in the Macys Thanksgiving parade.
All this garbage about how deep he is and how he is broadening every
ones horizens by playing this sterile elevator "jazz". I find his
attempts at social/political commentary through his lyrics to be
the equivalent of earnest high school poetry.I quess the bottom
line is that I find his latest release and all his solo work to
be lifeless, boring and suitable only for background music to root
    canal work.
                             sb.
