907.0. "and I still haven't bought yellow submarine..." by CYBORG::MORRELL () Wed Sep 23 1987 12:11

Well guess what beatle fans MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR has been released
on cd got mine at strawberries for 12.99? last night. The most
important thing about it is this cd is the american lp not the british
or u.k. issue like all the rest have been, another thing is who knew
it was going to be released? I have heard nothing on the radio about
it I just went to strawberries and there it was.(kinda strange I
think) But it sounds good anyway. Oh yea the book consists of the
lyrics to the movie songs and page 12 and 13 of the origonal book
that came with the lp you know the picture of all four beatles playing
a song and paul has no shoes on (but the bloody shoes are in front
of the bass drum) boy is this book CHEAP you would think they (the
record co.) could do much better with the beatles cd's.

I had read in another note about 1-2 months back that it was supposed
to be released this saturday (sept. 26th). Maby they are just a
    little ahead of schedule.

So, how maney minutes are on it? How does it sound? ....

To answer a few of my own questions as on my way home I picked it
up at Lechmere in Nashua for $12.

The total length is 36:52 in 11 songs which are:

    	[1]	Magical Mystery Tour 2:51
[2]	The Fool on the Hill 2:59
    	[3]	Flying 2:17
    	[4]	Blue Jay Way 3:57
[5]	Your Mother Should Know 2:29
    	[6]	I Am the Walrus 4:36
    	[7]	Hello Goodbye 3:31
    	[8]	Strawberry Fields Forever	4:10
    	[9]	Penny Lane 3:03
    	[10]	Baby You're a Rich Man 3:03
[11]	All You Need Is Love 3:48

I don't know why the CDP number is 48062. The rest of the releases
were all in order, with the last one (White Album) being 46444.
Anyone have an answer for this?

I don't recall ever hearing 3-5 before. Since I love the rest,
I wish these 3 were the last 3.

I haven't heard 10 in a long time, and it was great to hear it again.

On the inside listing of the songs names, it says ("No you're not!"
said Little Nicola). Who is Little Nicola?

The little booklet inside only gives the lyrics for the first 6
    songs.

This disc was a big surprize!! I have U.S., Japanese, and Mobile
Fidelity albums and they are all the same. Except for sound quality
that is. Actually I think the Japanese import sounds the best of
the three. They all have Mono versions of Penny Lane, Baby your
a Rich Man, and All you need is Love. The stereo version of All
you need is Love is on Yellow Submarine. The True Stereo version
of Penny Lane is on the U.S Rarities. Baby Your a Rich Man wasn't
release in Stereo at all until now. All three Stereo versions are
included on MMT Compact Disc. All right Capital!!!!

Let's hope they combine the remainder of oldies instead of releasing
repeat songs. 8 out of 16 songs on collection of Oldies have already
been released. British version of Rarities contains most of the
unreleased songs but a lot from the Hey Jude album. They could combine
them into two discs. They could release another rarities with the
US rarities album and include some other rarities not yet released.
But don't forget Live at the Hollywood Bowl....

                                                    Rich!!!
Next stop let it be Abbey Road.

answers: to find out who she was you should view the movie(yawn)
as to why you only get half the lyric's you just get the lyric's
to the songs that were in the movie these songs were originaly released
on a two 7"record set with the 24 page book containing photo's from
the film the other songs were all singles released and the us put
these movie songs and singles together to make a full album and
to my knowledge the full lp was never released in the u.k. untill
now when they released this version on cd. and until now all the
beatle cd's were the u.k. versions. I still don't under stand why
the record co. didn't print the whole booklet for the cd it kinda
makes you want to hold on to your original lp.

                      and I'm only a .5 beatles fan

It would seem that the novelty of having the Beatles on CD is beginning
to ware off. MMT came out almost a week early, no parties or special
sales at record stores, no big ads. Let's face it folks, just two
more to go and about 30 days to wait.

As for the songs, It was nice to get a few cuts on CD this year
that I had not expected to get until next year.

"Fool on the Hill", sounds great, this song goes back to my early
childhood and AM radio. I haven't heard it in years, but it sounds
    better then ever.

"Strawberry Fields Forever", I hear things in this version I never
heard before, it seems to be even more phsycodelic(sp?).

"Penny Lane", one of my favorite Beatles songs, on the CD it sounds
just like my record. Sad, maybe it wasn't cleaned up because nobody
    cared... :-)

Ditto. This, as a real youngster, was one of my favorites. I even
wrote a report on it in 4th grade. For this reason, I was profoundly
interested in this album for years, even though it was spawned from
a pretty bogus movie. The booklet was always a source of mystery
to me, and I am disappointed that they didn't go through the expense
of reproducing it. Countless times I have gone through the original
(now missing pages) looking for all the "clues" the Beatles left
for us. Does anyone know whether the booklet is included in a new
    copy of the LP?

I bought the CD last night, in the midst of a $100 binge in Cambridge.
Haven't gotten to the music yet, I was busy with REM and a used
    copy of Dylan's biograph.

Re: 7-----No the newer pressings of this lp do not have the
book in them in fact it hasen't had the book for a good 5-10 years
now though you could buy the ep I discused in note 907.5 I saw one
at rocket records not to long ago approx.$5.99, and this contains
the booklet (it is an imported record). Otherwise you must search
for an origonal copy of the lp to get the book.(good luck 'cause
when the rest of the fans see that the cd is this cheap than they
won't part with thier copy's of the lp with the book)(most people
get the cd and dump the lp ) I don't though.

Just started reading this notes file. There is a lot of interest
on the Beatles. I can remember them when I was in the 9th grade.
I'm wondering if the interest in there CD's comes from my age group
or younger? I have all there albums, there first one I think is
worn thur on both sides. I can't bring myself to buy the CD's,
the price is to high. But it's nice to still see there's interest
    in them.

The Beatles popularity seems to be universal. By the time I became
a member of the music buying public, the Beatles had already broken
up. I own some Beatles records, but did not get really into them
until about 3 years ago. I have been waiting for the CDs ever since.

My younger sister has also been buying all the CDs as they come
out. It's interesting to note that she was born on the same day
    Sgt. Peppers has released.

MMT is the first of the Beatle CDs I didn't get on the first day
of sale. My interest in the Beatles goes back to when my aunt
and uncle mailed me their first two 45s as an example of what
English kids were listening to. They were pretty much unknown in
the US at the time. I guess that means I'm not one of their
        younger fans any more, huh?

907.12Some thoughts from an original fanWCSM::ECTORMy Monster from his slab began to riseMon Sep 28 1987 18:1925

I was 17 when I first heard them (June '63). I'd been a Del Shannon
fan, and he had a record out called "From Me To You," which I thought
was cool. I was also a Frank Ifield fan and his then current hit
was "I Remember You." While searching for an album by Frank, I noticed
a record with some of Franks' stuff and something by a group called
the Beatles and the Del Shannon song was on it. Was I surprised
to find out almost 3 years later that Del had toured the UK with
this group and Lennon & McCartney had given Del this song to release
on his own in America. Anyway, the album was called "Frank Ifield/The
Beatles Live On Stage." It wasn't a live album at all, but I sure
liked its' sound. The group was good, but they had funky looking
    haircuts.

Had no idea that in June, I was listening to a group that'd sweep
the charts starting the next January ('64). I've been a fan ever
since that day, hearing them metamorphise from cover songs to original
material to originally unique songs. They single-handedly kept R&R
alive and helped bring us to where we are today both individually
    and collectively.

Getting back to the Magical Mystery Tour album, isn't little Nicola
the little girl John had on his lap while riding the bus? I remember
he and George blowing up a balloon for her...

It is surprising that I remember this because the movie was pretty
    boring and mostly forgettable.

RE .13 Give the man a rubber cigar. Yes that is Little Nicola
    on Georges' lap.

If anyone is interested MMT is available on video from MPI (the
same people who brought us HELP!) and it has been seen for about
$16.00 or so. I saw it once but have not been to interested in watching
    it again.

To add to the other notations concerning how us "kids" first
responded to the Fab Four. I was a Beatles fan from the very begining
of the American invasion. It is fun to watch my daughter who is
ten, watch HELP! over and over. She can quote lines and has also
watched my Complete Beatles about a dozen times. She also enjoys
to watch A Hard Days Night as well. I guess the thing about the
Beatles that attracted people was they were so likeable, both as
indiviguals and as a group. I listen to the CD and remember back
to a happier time when all cares were only about such things as
"did I get my homework done?" I guess they will be popular for many
decades to come and we can all be happy to know that we were a part
of it. I have a young Beatles fan in my house.
One last thing, my daughter said to me "You know Dad, the Beatles
act just like the Monkees". I corectted her, ammused at the
    observation.
