125.0. "Looking for a cheap CD player" by CLOUD9::RYAN () Thu May 16 1985 20:42

Let's take the last note one further - how about recommendations for the
best budget CD players (let's say, listing for under $350-400). Personally,
the most important features for me would be things that make precise cuing
easy for making tapes for my car (I love to make interesting segues...).

Ok:
Sony CDP-102!
$399 at Lechmere
It has Sony's latest "unilinear converter system", which is their fancy name
for oversampling and digital filtering. Comes with a remote. Front loading.
You can't program the sequence of the tracks, but you can set stop/start
points at any location within a track. Have yet to hear it mistrack, even
on dirty discs. Sound is (if I may insert an abused word) awesome.

I second reply -1. I just got the CDP-102 because I had to trade
in the Technics SL-P7 that I had bought a few months earlier.
The disc drawer of the Technics would not stay in, so seeing as
that the SL-P7 is not made anymore and Lechmere doesn't carry it
anymore, I got full credit for it and paid $100. more for the Sony
CDP-102. I did notice a difference in the sound. It's much more
clean and transparent, plus the Sony doesn't make that annoying
high pitched motor noise that the Technics did. I love the remote
control and the black finish so I didn't mind paying another $100.
for a player, and the (to my ears) better sound is just frosting
	on the cake.

There is a place called Leiser sound in Worcester that is selling
a Fisher brand Disc player for 180.00. DOn't know what it has
but it is very cheap and they take Mastercard.

Hi guys, my name is Charles Lin. I am new to this system and am absolutely
delight to read different articles here. I would like to give my recommendation
to sony as well. I got my sony in japan this summer for $280, but a friend
told me that 47th St Photo in NYC supposedly sells for $299(which would make
it a steal!). anyway, i found the machine to be excellent, including ease
of operation. since i listen to classical most of the time, i find programming
capability to be unnecessary. but even if you like to skip around, the acess
time (to any tracks) is ALWAYS about 2 seconds! Since i came back from japan
(end of june), i have increased my cd collection to 45. I have a lot of
japanese song which are very nice to listen to even though i understand very
little of the lyrics. if anyone is interested in listening to them, call
me at 225-7063 or troll::clin.  that is if you get to read this message;
this file has so many notes (220 or so!). i had just spent last 4 hrs reading
them, and i am just at this point. for anyone wanting to talk audio, my
system consist of dynaco 416 power amp, accuphase preamp (forgot model #),
ar speakers, nakamichi tape deck, thorens 318 turntable, and about 400 vinyl
discs, which i still listen but less. hope to hear from you guys soon.

bye! charles

Re .4,
Welcome!, We 'see' you alright because we tend to use the 'since'
command in notes, which allows you to read all additional after
	a specified date.

We (my wife and I) 'discovered' japanese music thorugh compacts.
There is really some good stuff avaiable there. Looking forward
	to try more.
Hein,
