80.0. "Japanese Review" by SNOV10::QUODLING () Sun Feb 03 1985 20:21

I have never really gone looking through the Japanese records/cds in my local
music shop until the owner suggested I have a listen to one of his favourites.

The Disc is Silk Road by Kitaro ( I gather it might be the theme music for a
japanese TV series or something.) It is available from Polydor as 823 736-2

Definitely worth a listen, very pleasant, relaxing music.

Kitaro has several disks out, mostly Japanese pressings. "Kitaro"
is the name of a person, and he plays all the instruments himself.
Synthesizer, mostly.

O.K. Here it is.
	Name Title Comment
	====			=====			=======

Seiko Matsuda "The 9th Wave" She is a pop singer
							of Japan-wide fame.
							Music is fun but can
							very "poppy".

	Takanaka GO-on A famous comtemporary
							Jazz group. Most song
							titles in English.
							Excllent horns.

Sadao Watanabe Maisha He plays the alto
							sax with the best.

Yumi Matsutoya -No name- She is the Linda
							Ronstadt of Nippon.
							Excellent voice - music
							has a mello latin beat.

				Olive AN ITALIAN folk
							music inspired album.
							My favorite.

Hiromi Iwasaki Diamant She's o.k. Kind
							of like Madonna - but
							it sounds good in
							Japanese.

Kyoko Koizumi Today's Girl Yep - she is. She
							Has good tunes but
							looks ridiculous.
							Music is very pop !

The Tokyo Quintet Contemoraary music of Japan.
Kind of avant-garde and a bit
						strange -- great !!!!!

Yellow magic orchestra	Service Fusion -- wierd but fun.
						Sounds like some seens from
						Monty Python.

A friend of mine has a Japanese strange jazz import. The title is
"The Four Seasons". Note that this has nothing to do with Vivaldi, but is
instead 12 pieces, each one evocative of a different month. I like it very
much. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name of the artist.

..and, presumably, nothing to do with Tchaikovsky - "The seasons" - A cycle
of twelve compositions for Orchestra (also named after the months).
