1384.0. "Strawberries Windham Hill Free Sampler Promo--Warning" by AQUA::ROST (You've got to stop your pleading) Thu Nov 10 1988 17:47

    Just a friendly warning to Boston area buyers...

    Strawberries is running an ad in today's Globe concerning a Windham
    Hill sale.

    The sale is on all right, but the blurb about a contest where you can
    win a Yamaha piano and by just entering *get a free Windham Hill
    sampler cassette* is restricted to the Boston stores ONLY.

    Shrewsbury knew nothing about the ad but the manager was kind enough
    to check with the central warehouse.

1384.1Really? What store?WILKIE::OLOUGHLINFri Nov 11 1988 13:0212

     Did I read that right?

     Walk into Strawberries, sign up for a Yamaha baby grand and they
    will give me Windham Hill sampler?

     Can my girlfriend get one while I get mine too?

     Rick.

1384.2Strawberries AdCASV01::WRESINSKIMon Nov 14 1988 18:2720
    I don't know what the Globe ad said, but I have an ad in The Phoenix
    (November 11) that says "Entire Windham Hill catalogue On Sale"
    with no mention of any restrictions.

    Strawberries is famous for having miscommunication between the
    advertising departments and their stores. A couple of years ago
    they featured an ad for a particular double CD for a great price.
    I went to the Screwsbury store (like you) and they didn't know anything
    about the sale. The manager then said the sale was only for specific
    titles as listed on their in-store flyer which he waved in front
    of my face. I then waved the Globe ad in _his_ face. He had to
    check with the main office who said that, indeed, I was right --
    but they didn't have any in stock because they didn't order enough
    to distribute to all their stores!

    If the sale is still on and if you bought your Windham Hills at
    full price, I'd say return them, get the ad and demand the sale
    price.

1384.3Strawberries/Windham Hill ContestCASV01::WRESINSKIMon Nov 14 1988 18:308
   Regarding the Strawberries/Windham Hill contest,
    You can register for the contest for free (!)

    The free W.H. sampler requires the purchase of _any_ (underlined
    in the ad) jazz or new age album with entry ballot while supplies
    last.

1384.4Sale not restrictedMQOFS::LEDOUXReserved for Future UseTue Nov 15 1988 17:099
    The sales is not restricted to "Boston Area only" as mentioned in
    .0 The sale is also valid in Canada (Montreal). But the prices
    of the CD are not lowered very much. (About US$15.00)
    Remember what they give away is a cassette, NOT a CD, either
    you buy 2 Cassette, Vinyl OR CD.

    Great New Age, no so great price, for that label...

    Vince.
