64.0. "Info on Available CD's" by DAMSEL::ROBBINS () Sun Dec 23 1984 02:51

I am looking for info on currently available CD's, as well as suggestions
for good stores. Right now, I'm looking for Mozart's Horn Concertos.

How can I find out who has recorded it (label and artists), the quality of
the performances, and what store(s) have it? Any good mail-order sources?

The catalogue I have, which I picked up in Rockit Records (Nashua NH), has
a fairly extensive list of works by Mozart.. Unfortunately it doesn't
list any "Horn Concertos".. Not being overly familiar with Mozart's
work - I'm sure I wouldn't know a horn concerto if it hit me.. Still,
it does list "Samtliche Werke fur Horn & Orch." (whatever that is),
Friesen, Concerto Rotterdam - Germany - MD&G, L3085.
{Anyone know what label MD&G might be?}

Some stores have catalogues that you can buy or have for free.. (Rockit
Records for instance), others have lists that they'll occasionally admit
to having and let you look at in the store (Strawberries for instance).
Others will just look at you funny...

As for quality of the performances, you could try magazines or this notes
file..

If you let us know which part of the world you reside, maybe someone
will be able to suggest somewhere to try..

See many other notes in this file for info on locations on sources for CDs.
We don't need another note for this.

Each issue I have seen of "Digital Audio Magazine" has included a complete
listing of all CDs to date.

Of course, their listings are a few months out of date, but they are
nonetheless very useful.

  "Digital Audio" is a good source, although I would not call their list
  *complete* by any means, I could name a number of labels that are available
  in this country but omitted.

  Their (so called) complete lists were published in the September and
  December issues, other months only had updates. I suspect the January
  issue will have an update to the December list.

  Also, their list are subdivided by Label rather than ordered by composer
  which makes it more difficult if your looking for a particular piece.
