| It depends what your brother means by a big selection. There are only
a couple of thousand CD titles available at all, and most of them were
produced in small quantities. The number is growing fast, but you will
get discouraged quickly if you compare the selection of records with the
selection of CDs.
While I can't find all the CDs I would like to own, I can find about as
many as I can afford to buy.
I don't know about New York stores, but people have mentioned Tower
Records as a good source.

| Having just come back from a visit to friends in NYC, including a fair amount
of shopping, I can make a suggestion or 2:
1. Tower Records is a good place to try (W. 4th st & Broadway, Manhattan)
They have a sizeable selection of most anything released domestically.
2. J & R Music World (23 Park Row, Manhattan, across from City Hall). Has
an equally fine selection of domestically-released rock CD's. Their Classical
Store has a great selection of jazz and classical CD's as well.
J&R advertises heavily in audio and video magazines for equipment, blank tapes,
and such. Their prices are amongst the best around (CDs for $12.99 mostly)
and should definitely be a place to check out before getting any new equipment.
Best of luck!
