1015.0. "Broken D55" by ABACUS::DEBERRY () Thu Dec 17 1987 12:37

HELP! My SONY D55 is broken. I got this as a christmas present
last year. It was the 'floor model' and came with no documentation,
registration, etc. The store promissed to send along the missing
paper when they found it .... I'm still waiting.

The basic problem is that the unit will not spin the CD. When I
press PLAY, there is a slight click (I think this is the laser
alligning itself) and the AMS light on the front comes on. There
is also a slight hum as if a transformer is trying to spin the disk
but the motor is jamed. After about 3 seconds the unit shuts down.

I have tried both the battery pac and the AC converter with the
same results. I can spin the CD by hand but the D55 doesn't seem
    able to.

Anyone have any suggestions or the name of a good service facility
    in Southern NH?

Do you still have your receit? The portable Sony CD players come
with 90 day unlimited warantee and a 1 year parts. If you got it
as a xmas present your player may just be out of warantee and the
player knew so and that's why it decided to die know :^) . Don't
despair, if your player is slightly out of warantte, write Sony
a letter stating the problem and they will stretch the 1 year parts
warrantee a bit. But you still have to pay for labor :^( .

    Hope this helps.

PS: My player is being fixed at Cuomos but it seems that the Sony
Service Center in Westwood (617) 329-5130 is the place for service.

If you take your CD player to Sony in Westwood they will mail it
back to you. Of course if it isn't in warranty there is a small
    charge.
