    I'm new to the world of Compact Discs, for this reason I'd like
    to ask for some help. I'm buying a new car, so I decided that this
    is the best time to buy a good car stereo. I've been reading a lot,
    both magazines and these NOTES, but I still have some questions.
    
    I'm considering buying one of the following systems:
    
    	(1) A Sony "CDX-A10 DiscJockey" with the XT-10 tuner.
    	(2) An Alpine 5950 with the 1341 tuner. (Alpine's version of
    	    Sony's CDX-A10??)
    	(3) A good cassette system (something like a Blaupunkt Houston,
    	    or an Alpine 728x) and a "CD-only" unit. [I know this system
    	    would not give me multiple CD handling - is this more 
    	    reliable?].
    
    I really like the idea of having easy access to several CDs in one
    unit, eventhough it's expensive. My concern is about the reliability,
    serviceability and ease of use (while driving) of these systems,
    as well as any "advantages" and/or "disadvantages" of owning one
    of these. [Theft protection??].
    
    Also, could someone offer suggestions about places to buy CD car
    equipment at good prices? I'm seriously considering "mail ordering"
    from New York stores, but I'm having trouble identifying these stores.
    
    If you have a CDX-A10 or a 5950, please let me know how you like
    them.  Thanks for any and all responses.
    
    By the way, I don't know if this should make any difference, but,
    the car (truck?) I'm buying is a Chevy Suburban.

    the CDX-A10 doesn't really appeal to me.  The only time I have more
    than about 4 CDs in my car is when I go on an extended trip.  When I go
    on one of these trips, my trunk is usually rather full.  I also tend to
    take along about 30 CDs in a cardboard box.  I don't want to unload my
    trunk every 5 or 6 hours when I find that my mustical thirst has
    drifted from Led Zeppelin to Glenn Gould/Goldberg Variations.
    
    I would get one of the new Alpines (7901 or 7902 I think) and keep 4 or
    5 CDs in that truck-sized glove box.  Where were you going to put the
    CDX-A10 in a Surburban?  Spend more money on amps and speakers and
    forget the CD changer.
