647.0. "CBS Compact Disc Promotion, Argh!" by BETHE::LICEA_KANE () Fri Feb 20 1987 21:25

    Argh!

    So, I finally get my free CBS CD, and they ship me the wrong one.
    No, fools, "Anything Goes" with Eileen Rogers, Hal Linden and Mickey
    Deems (EK15100) is NOT (repeat not) the same as "Anything Goes"
    by Dave Brubeck (CK9402).

    Sigh, heavy sigh. Anyone else get mis-shipments from CBS?

    Sorry to here you had a problem.

    So far I have had no problems at all and I've been in the club for
    two years.

647.2Do you need the receipts?VINO::GSCOTTGreg ScottTue Feb 24 1987 15:189
    I got a little letter saying I forgot the $1 to cover postage and
    handling. Interestingly enough I actually had forgotten it.

    The card also said I didn't enclose the cash register receipts; however
    I didn't enclose the recipts on the other two CDs I got for free; and I
    didn't return a receipt with the $1 either. Both of the other CDs
    I got for free were the proper ones and were my first choice.

    No problems yet. No cd either. I asked for Alison Moyet. After .0,
    I've been worried that they'll send me Bill Moyers.

    Well, I got all seven free CDs I was entitled to, but I think only
    2 of them were my first choice. That was disappointing.

    Also, I hade a really hard time finding enough discs in their catalog
    to give 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices for all seven.

    Oh well, free is free.

    re .4: I didn't specify a 2nd or 3rd choice on one of my list. So I
    guess that's why I got my 1st choice. I assume we will see you in
    CDSWAP soon :-(

I didn't give a second or third choice either... I can't believe that they
couldn't fill orders from that little booklet. I would rather wait for
them to get more than get one I really didn't want.

647.8I think there are 2 references herePARSEC::PESENTIJPWed Feb 25 1987 10:3017
Re .6

> What CBS compact disc promotion ?

I believe that .0 is referring to the offer many stores have displayed on CBS
discs. "Buy n, get 1 free from CBS." I think n=5? Once you buy the required
number, you mail a coupon from the store with some proof of purchase to CBS
along with your selection, and they mail you the disc.

I further believe that .1 is referring to the CBS compact disc club, which
does not offer free discs unless you get another person to sign up. Their
offer is 3 for $1 with an optional 4th for $6.97, then 2 at the regular prices
($15-17), then 1 @ 50% for every full price one you buy. In addition, they
have sales (not part of the 2 at the regular price obligation) for <$11.

647.9Its too late now...VINO::GSCOTTGreg ScottWed Feb 25 1987 12:206
    re .6/.8: Yes its a deal that ended January 31st where you buy 5 CBS
    CDs, send in the UPCs from the box plus $1 postage and handling,
    indicate first, second, third selections by CBS catalog number, and get
    your free CD by return mail.

    I had to submit my order twice. I enclosed a Xerox copy of a UPC code
    from one of my purchases since I didn't want to cut up my liner notes.
    I even explained it on the back of the copy. I guess they didn't turn
    it over. I bought another disc and resubmitted it. I'm still waiting
    for my freebie.

    I think that their not accepting copies was pretty crummy (afterall,
    they did require reciepts). This meant that you had to either cut
    up the liner notes or make sure you bought the disks in the cardboard
    outer box. Some of the discs (like one of the ones I bought) did
    not come in a cardboard outer box. One cardboard boxed disc I did
    buy that I didn't want to cut the box of: The Boss's live album,
    should have counted as 3 separate purchases.

    Just received my (second) selection. It took just about the advertised
    six weeks, maybe a bit less.

    Received Earth, Wind, and Fire ``That's the way of the World.'' Sound
    is very good. The title song is one I would take to a desert island.

    I just got mine within the time promised, and my first selection
    ('Til Tuesday's "Welcome Home"). To get a free disc for buying
    other discs I wanted, I guess it was worth the extra hassle.
