175.0. "D5 Deluxe cheap (?)" by EIFFEL::LIONEL () Fri Sep 06 1985 22:41

Cuomo's in Salem is advertising what it claims to be the D5 Deluxe,
plus battery case, for $216.99. If this is true, it's a fantastic
deal. (Note that the picture in the ad also shows headphones, but
the illustrations can't be relied upon.

If you belong to Comp-u-store, you can get the D5 plus battery pack/carrying
case plus Sony MDR-M55 headphones for $199.

re .1: Is that the D-5 Deluxe or the older (non-Deluxe?) version?

Re .2:
The "non-Deluxe" is not an "older" version, just one with different
power and packaging options.

re .3: OK. So is the $199 Comp-U-Store price for a D5 (not Deluxe) or
for a D5 Deluxe?

It really does appear Sony is trying to clear D5 stock.
Can we look forward to a newer model to compete more directly with the
new Techniques portable?

As I said in another note, Sony earlier announced that several new models
would be available in the fall, but provided no details. I'll post anything
I hear or read.

RE: .6 Yes you can look forward to new Sony portable units. Likely they
will be CD/FM combos.
