    	Ditto: I got mine at Cuomo's for $239.99 over the Washington's
    birthday weekend. Boy is it fantastic! If I really do get alot
    of CD's then I will buy myself a full size unit. But it will have
    to have remote control as well as a disc cartridge and time lens
    if it is to be any better then the D-7.

271.2Battery pack included?DSSDEV::EPPESFri Mar 21 1986 17:373
Do these prices include the battery pack? I may treat myself to a D7
when I get my tax refund...

271.3No headphones, though...CFIG1::OAKEYRoger Oakey 522-2255 CXO1-2/N27Fri Mar 21 1986 19:4910
    Yes it does. The $250 price (I sent away for mine) Includes the
    player, the battery pack, case with strap to hold the the
    *very* compact package and a mini-plug_to_two_RCA_phono_plugs to
    attach it to your home stereo. This makes it possible to justify
    buying one player for both home and office use, and spending the
    money you 'saved' on $200 worth of disks (I havn't spent that much,
    but I'm coming close!)

271.4Incredible deal on D-7!DSSDEV::EPPESSun Mar 23 1986 22:2724
Amazing but true: Yesterday, Cuomo's (in Salem, NH) had an ad in the
Boston Globe claiming that D-7's were on sale for $209.99! I called
them to check on their supply (they had "plenty") and zoomed up and
picked one up.  The salespeople couldn't believe the price themselves;
they said that was cheaper than the deal they get as employees. I
asked how long the sale would last, but they didn't know.

Anyway, if you're looking for a good deal on a D-7, here's your
chance. It includes the whole kit 'n' kaboodle, sans headphones (as .3
said). And no sales tax! :-) I still can't believe it. And to add to
my euphoria, Cuomo's also had CDs of the Broadway version of "Cats,"
which I didn't know were now available. I'm in heaven....

I did have one small problem -- when I got my CD player home and tried
it out, it didn't work! The disc would start spinning, then sort of
grind to a halt almost immediately. That was rather discouraging!
So I went back up and exchanged it (no small chore, as I live 25 miles
away). Before I left with the new one, I checked it there to make sure
it was okay.

Incidentally, they also have the D-5 Deluxe for $199.99 (but why bother?).
And they have portables from Sanyo and Pioneer, which I didn't know
existed...

271.5looking for CATS excerptsTROLL::CLINThu Apr 03 1986 18:4812
    Hey, I've been looking for the broadway cast of CATS for a long
    time. Actually, I just want the except, which is on a single disc.
    Someone told me that the single disc had been discontinued and only
    the complete musical on 2 discs is available. Can someone who live
    up there near Cuomo and had a chance to go in check it out for me?

    If it's the excerpt, PLEEEASE buy it for me and I'll send you the
    money.

    Thanks
    Charles

271.6I haven't seen a "Cats Excerpts" discDSSDEV::EPPESThu Apr 03 1986 19:534
I have only seen the 2-disc version. That's all Cuomo's had when
I got it a couple weeks ago, anyway. And I haven't seen any "Excerpts"
discs anywhere else (Lechmere, Coop).

    Is anyone willing to lend me his copy of CATS for listening? I
    can lend you some of mine too if you are interested (I have Evita).

    I live in Westboro and work in Hudson and go into Boston about 3
    times a week.

    I was wondering if anyone had any information on the following:

    	- Is there any difference between the D-7 and the D-7S?

    	- Does anyone own the mini-speakers pictured in intruction
    	  manual for the D-7S?

    	  - If so, how are they?

    	  - Price?

    	  - Does anyone know where they are available?

    	- Does anyone have any suggestions on smaller (ie: I'm equating
    	  smaller in size, to smaller in price) speaker sets, I'm looking
    	  for something that's portable, to go with my Discman. Can
    	  you provide, brand-name, price, recommendation, location where
    	  I might find these devils, etc.?

    re: .8

    D-7S = D-7. The Sony coding seems to work as follows:

    A letter after the number means that player with certain optional
    equipment that is indicated by the letter (e.g. Car adapter, car
    power supply, etc.)

    a second number (e.g. D-55) seems to mean more stuff inside the
    player. For example, the D-55 and D-77 are the D-5 and D-7 with
    a radio inside as well as a CD player.

    On the speakers, I have not heard those, but I have seen (and heard)
    some nice small speakers by AIWA at Tweeter, etc. Also, I just
    got a catalog in the mail the other day showing even smaller speakers
    by Sony (than the ones in the manual) that are brand new. Don't
    know anything about those, either, expect from the catalog (which
    was either Sharper Image or Sporting Edge).

    I own the small AIWA speakers, which cost about $75/pair. AC adapter
    extra. They are fine down to about 150 Hz., and very clear for
    their size and price. But I don't use them to listen to the 1812,
    or Night on Bald Mountain... :-)

        D-7S = D-7 + "deluxe" power supply + "tricorder" battery pack
        	(+ a pair of head phones?)

        The D-7 is just the player itself.

271.11Not right so far...PARSEC::PESENTIJPMon Jun 29 1987 11:4018
I asked this D7 vs D7S question a while back, and never got a satisfactory
answer. So far as I can tell all the answers you have gotten here are wrong,
too. My D7S had D7S imprinted on the model tag. I wouldn't think they would
make different model players just because they have different options in the
box with it. (I could see this strategy if the it was a D7S package, that
included a D7, headphones, etc.) Besides, my D7S, came with a thin line
battery pack, AC adaptor, stereo line cord, and carrying case. No headphones,
and no tricorder-whatsit.

One salesman said he thought it might be indicate some new internal
electronics, above what the D7 offerred, but the D7 and D7S appear to be
functionally equivalent.

I gave up when my unit died 34 days after purchase. I was told that the model
was disontinued (this was last Xmas).

271.12still say D7S = D7 + extrasSTAR::BIGELOWBruce Bigelow, DECnet-VAXMon Jun 29 1987 12:436
    My D7-S (what it said on the box) says D7 on the back of the unit.
     I think the "tricorder" thing refered to above was the carrying
    case/battery pack, which sort of makes it appear somewhat like the
    old Startrek "tricorder" that McCoy was fond of carrying around.

271.13QUARK::LIONELWe all live in a yellow subroutineMon Jun 29 1987 14:245
    My brother has a D-7S, and it says D-7 on the player itself. I
    have not seen a "tricorder" case for the D-7 - that was for the
    D-5 (which I have). Also, the special power base was only for the
    D-5 Deluxe (which I got).

271.14So I'm just a little confused...HUMAN::BURROWSJim BurrowsTue Jun 30 1987 01:576
        Don't mind me, my D7-D7s description earlier was really a D5-D5S
        distinction, as I have a D5, not a D7. The Tricorder battery
        pack comes with the D5S, not the D7S. Just overworked.

271.15Stands for Something-or-other!PARSEC::PESENTIJPTue Jun 30 1987 10:475
Come to think of it, my D7S said D7 on the box. What made me ask around for
the difference in the first place was the added "S" on the player. Hmmmm.

271.16What is an "S" ?STAR::BIGELOWBruce Bigelow, DECnet-VAXTue Jun 30 1987 15:4911
    Re: .15

    Well, yours says D7 on the box and D7S on the player.

    Mine says D7S on the box and D7 on the player.

    I think from that we can draw the conclusion that Sony doesn't know
    it's "S" from it's elbow.
