115.0. "POWERSLAVE" by BRAT::FORTIN_C (Bound For a Star With Fiery Oceans) Tue Apr 29 1997 13:21

I picked this game up over the weekend on the advice of the
Absolute Playstation page on the Web. There's a huge review
    of this game at:

    		http://www.absolute-playstation.com/rexhum.htm

The game is called Powerslave here in the US of A but goes by
the name Exhumed over in Japan, I beleive, where it has been out
a little longer. Basically, it is a "Doom" type, first person
shoot out game that takes place in Egypt where a race of aliens
has taken over the city of Karnak and stolen the mummified body
of King Ramses and is draining it of it's magical powers. The
aliens are turning the people of Karnak into mummies and wreaking
havoc across the land - obviously it's your job to stop them.

I just started playing this but from the looks of it the "world"
that you function in is enormous. I believe there are 21 different
levels to make your way through to beat the game. There are 6
different Ancient Artifacts that you need to collect to win. Also,
it says in the instructions, tjat you need to collect all 8 pieces
to your lost transmitter "to get the best possible ending". So
bottom line is there are 14 things to collect.

The graphics are good and the gameplay is smooth (Although the graphics
are nowhere near as good as "Turok" for N64. The review on the
Absolute PSX page says this one is the class of the first person
    shoot-'em-up games.

I'll post more as I progress through the levels.

Powerslave was originally a PC port. I have a shareware if anybody wants to try
it out on a pc.

It's a DUKE3D-like game, secret cracks in walls, mazes, bad guys, ect...

Your in first person and doom had fists -> pistol -> rifle -> machine gun, now
you have knife -> pistol -> machine gun -> magic wands and the sort. Instead of
IMPS you now get Mummies, blah, blah....

115.3Never Played Much "Doom"BRAT::FORTIN_CBound For a Star With Fiery OceansTue Apr 29 1997 17:4916

    Ken,

I'm really not sure...I never had Doom and played it only on
occasion at a friends house to see what it was like. So if it's
better or worse, I cannot really say. I've never owned a first-
person shooter game so this is new to me and will be the first one
I've really sat down and played to win. The few times I've played
Powerslave I've definatly enjoyed it...although the creatures at the
beginning aren't very challenging. All I've come across so far has
    been these blue Scorpions.

I'll provide more info as I work my way through the game.

115.4I wanna get ExhumedWOTVAX::LANEIGame warden to the event RhinoWed Apr 30 1997 08:1212
Exhumed was out on the Saturn about 9 months ago and is highly
recommended by an ex-Saturn owning friend (he's still a friend, he
    ditched the Saturn for a N64) .
Blast, this window has corrupted, apologies if this is garbled, but
    I'll carry on!

Exhumed is a great improvement on Doom: so I guess the bottom line is
if you're not bothered about Doom games, then this is the only one you
might want. I like Doom and plan to get Exhumed ASAP.

>Exhumed is a great improvement on Doom:

That's what the review seemed to indicate. Guess it must be true!
