110.0. "recording playstation on vcr ?" by PUXGPX::LHERAULT (Yves - ORG_STILL_CHANGING) Sun Mar 16 1997 19:11

    Hi PSXers

    My son is the happy owner of a playstation and wants to show his
    friends some of the final scenes of games. To do so, he is willing
    to record some screenshots coming from the PSX to the VCR. The
    installation is :
    PSX to port 1 of the TV set (through "Peritel")
    VCR to port 2 of the TV set (through Peritel)

    He selects the AV1 chanel on the VCR and then begins recording. When
    playing back what he recorded, it cames with some so bad colours and
    picture that it's not suitable for his needs.
    I'm absolutely unable to explain what happens. I guess there's a
    synchronism problem, but don't know at all if it is possible to record
    so.

    Has anyone of you ever succeeded in recording the PSX with an
    acceptable level of quality ?

    Thanks for any hints

    Yves

It is certainlly possible on a PAL Playstation: I have the aerial cable
and Playstation cable multi-tapped into the RF socket of my video in order to
have a single cable leading the three metres to my TV. On a whim I tuned a video
channel to the Playstation output and hit record. It works.

I have sucessfully recorded too, using NTSC format. Recorded quality is
absolutely perfect. I don't know what a "peritel" is, and I don't know why
you are apparently trying to record "through" the TV.

I'd go: PSX to Input of VCR.
         Output of VCR to input of TV.

110.3Thanks allPUXGPX::LHERAULTYves - ORG_STILL_CHANGINGTue Mar 18 1997 11:1910
Thanks for these replies.
For clarification, in France, we have SECAM as TV standard, so neither PAL nor
NTSC is used. Peritel is another french standard which was set years ago to plug
any appliance to the TV. You just have to deal with one cable for connecting
something to the TV set.
I didn't try any configuration other than the one my son first used. I'll give
it some time next weekend.
Anyway, thanks for your answers. I know now that it may be feasible.

         Hello,

         can anyone tell me how to access this conference
         in the Internet. (Netscape ??)

110.5I just posted this from Netscape12368::"swanson@metalx.eng.pko.dec.com"KenFri Mar 21 1997 15:489
re: -1

If you mean from outside of DEC, you can't. But if you're on
DEC's internal network, go to
http://www-notes.lkg.dec.com/metalx/playstation
and you can post from there.
