643.0. "Where are the STUFFIES?" by PEKING::AYRESR (Flares are back!!) Fri Mar 30 1990 18:02

Does anybody know what's happened to the 'Wonder Stuff'. I am a
massive fan and the last I heard was that the 'BASS THING' had left
and the band was breaking up completely. This would be a shame
as both their albums have been quite succesful and they are brilliant
    live.

    Thanks in advance.

    Russell.

There is a new single coming out soonish. Our hero (now left - BS) has
a white label advance of it, and its meant to be brill. Title is
something like 'You've never really meant much to me', or something.
They are also plying support to the Mission at an outdoor gig sometime
this summer, a free event to be help possibly on Clapham Common.

Stuffies are still around!!!

Heard the 'Circlesquare' 12" last Saturday at my favourite record dealer's.
Well there's nothing much to rejoice at. The title track is a real bore,
with this omnipresent and irritating violin, the 'Paranoia mix' version
seems even more interminable, and the other song (simply entitled 'Our New
Song') is the kind you forget as soon as it is over.

In the past there's been a couple of relatively weak songs to fill their
Lps, but this is the first time I hear such vacuum on a Stuffies single
(in fact the second time, first time was with 'Golden Green' - both songs
are pretty similar btw). Far below standards like 'Don't Let Me Down
Gently', 'Who Wants To Be The Disco King' or my favourite 'Like A Merry-
    Go-Round'.

It seems you can't trust anybody these days.

    Christophe.

Last month their concert (as support band for the Mission) in Lyon was
cancelled because one of the members of the Mission was ill. The gig was
re-scheduled on June 7th. But I was told this weekend that this date is
now cancelled too, the venue having closed down. I'm not far from
thinking that there are some evil forces behind all this.

However I still hope I'll have the opportunity to see them before they
    sound like U2.

    Christophe.
