5.1YOU KNOW ME! THESE GUYS DO!LDN01::BILLERSMon Mar 28 1988 22:0519
    Ello everybod!

My name is Mary Fell but you will recognise me from my
    nickname of Mazzer.
I work in Enterprise House London and have worked for
DIGITAL for 7 years i.e. 5 years in FS Installations and 2
    years in FS DECsite.

I enjoy a wide variety of music tastes such as Prince, U2,
The Pogues, Alexander O'Neal, The Mission, Level 42 and much much more
but I don't really like House Music.

I hope this notesfile is as enjoyable and entertaining as I found
    LIVE_Music_UK.

Be seeing ya - and keep on noting!

5.2Hi Guys (and Mazzer)!!JUNIOR::CHILTONSue Chilton, IN-DEC FSMon Mar 28 1988 23:1914

    Hi,

As you all know, I'm the foreigner among you! I'm a secretary for
    IN-DEC FS in Marlboro MA.

I like a wide variety of music, really only dislike heavy metal
and country. *Some* of my faves are Bruce, U2, Eric Clapton,
the Eagles, John Cougar Mellencamp and Fleetwood Mac.

Ditto (from Mazzer's intro) on the hopes for this notesfile and,
the old one was fun, wasn't it??

5.3'Hello!`MARVIN::HEALEYBrendan Healey, WACETue Mar 29 1988 04:336
Hi! The contributions in this conference that I will value a lot
will be gig/record reviews, but more than that will be gig
announcements so that I can write reviews too! I like virtually
anything that the majority of sub-sixteen yr olds don't.

    Brendan.

    Ello Boy !

In the Blue corner representing the Noth.....it's Rexley a retired
    Spanish Waiter...

My tastes start with Prince, Alexander O'Neal, Cherrelle, Sheila
E, SOS Band, Springsteen, Hue & Cry and so on.....

I would like to see a formal list of forthcoming tours and also
reviews....I'm due to see Alexander O'Neal, George Michael and Michael
Jackson (well someones got to do it!) currently, so I shall report
on all of these. Perhaps a list of decent ticket agencies would
also be useful as some people have awful trouble trying to get tickets
    for shows......

    Anyway, hasta la vesta...

Hi, I'm Keith Edmunds... I work in CSSE doing whatever people
in CSSE do. I like lotsa different types of music, and, after consuming
sufficient alcohol, have been known to sit on the floor and play
guitar along to Eagles' music and the like.

I, too, hope this conference continues in the spirit of the
old one, and I too don't think Bruce (Springsteen, I think his surname
is) is that brilliant. Never mind: there are plenty of bands I *do*
    like...

5.10Roderick MacFadyenRDGENG::MACFADYENRoderick MacFadyenTue Mar 29 1988 17:5216
I'm Rod MacFadyen, working for ESDP in the Millenium, Reading. The
best way to say what I like is to list the bands, so...

Associates, BAD, Cocteau Twins (fave of faves), Julian Cope, the Cult,
Echo + Bunnymen, Felt, Hendrix, Grace Jones, Jesus and Mary Chain, Joy
Division, Magazine, Mountain, New Order, Passions, Psychedelic Furs,
Prince, Rain Parade, REM, Smiths, Scars, Scritti Politti, Simple Minds,
Specials, Talking Heads, Television, The The, Traffic, U2, Zeppelin

...are all in the record collection. Who's this Springsteen (sp?)
    fellow everyone keeps talking about?

LIVE_MUSIC_UK has recently been very enjoyable, despite the rotten
taste you all have, so I hope UK_MUSIC will be just as good.

I'm currently stuck out here in Valbonne, far away from the happening
scene (man), but I like to keep up with what's going on over there.

Favourite music - well, there seem to be lots of "heavy/rock" fans out
there, and I'd include myself under that heading - I like MeatLoaf,
AC/DC, Hendrix, Trower, the Stones, Lynnyrd Skynnyrd, Queen. I also like a
bit of folk - Don MacLean (no, not the one on Crackerjack -
CRACKERJAAAACK!), Arlo Guthrie - and I recently bought the Jennifer
Warnes re-make of Leonard Cohen's Greatest Hits, and promptly went
    out and bought the CD.

BTW, whatever happened to the Gig Guide ? - it led me to many excellent
concerts when I was in the UK.

5.31Bowie WAS my No.1, but now.....?AYOV10::DROBBBreaking rocks in the hot sun...Fri Apr 15 1988 16:3432
As usual, I'm a bit late getting in here - Dougie Robb's the name,
and I toil in the Field Mnfg. Info. Centre in Ayr, Scotland as a
Materials Analyst (covers a multitude of malpractices!) within the
Manufacturing Support Group. I've been with DEC (oops, I mean
DIGITAL!) for nine years, although it was over eight before I
    discovered VAXnotes.

Anyway, I have an extremely wide taste in music, some of favourite
artists being David Bowie (esp. '71-'76 and definately discounting
anything post-'Let's Dance'), Steely Dan, The The, Aztec Camera,
Deacon Blue, Danny Wilson, Hue And Cry, Hipsway, U2, Bruce Springsteen,
Frank Sinatra (mid to late 50's stuff), George Benson (prior to
his commercial bland-out), the first two Heaven 17 albums, Human
League 'Dare', early Depeche Mode, Echo And The Bunnymen, Julian
Cope/Teardrop Explodes, The Robert Cray Band, Anita Baker, early
Style Council...and a fair smattering of others.

There's not a lot that I positively abhor, but let's just say that
my (fairly) extensive collection contains minimal heavy rock/metal,
house/hip-hop and suchlike, throwaway female pop/pap.

Burning issue with me at the moment is trying to judge the best
time to dive in to the world of CD's. I keep hearing that the price
of the discs is coming down, but apart from the introduction of
budget labels and mid-price issues, I'm not yet convinced. I can't
wait to get into this medium mind you - it's just mind-boggling
thinking about where you'd start in selecting those all-important
first few discs. Y'know, whether to buy new titles, or go for classics
that you already have on vinyl/tape.

Ah well, there's still a few weeks of the soccer season left for
    the pools to come up!!!

    Hello there,
I'm Ian who works in Reading but doesn't have to live there
thank god. I have a claim to fame in that Bros went to the same
school as I did and they were three years below me. Incidentally, at
the time we nick-named them 'The W*nker Twins'. Very apt.

Anyway, someone out there must remember The Cockney Rejects (Micky,
Stink and Vince) and what of Peter And The Test Tube Babies?
The Stranglers (older material) counts as a favourite, as does anything
that sounds good. Recently purchaesd some Woodentops (prompted by
this file) and thats good stuff too.

    Happy listening!

Likes: Blues, R&B, Soul (although not a lot of the newer, Whitney
Houston-clone kind), Jazz (modern more than trad), modern Folk (like
Clive Gregson/Christine Collister, Cat Stevens), Steely Dan (what
category do they go in?), AOR (such as Fleetwood Mac), some classical
(but nothing too clever/complex for my feeble brain, such as Schostokovich).

Dislikes: Most chart stuff (the musical equivalent of frozen peas),
anything that calls itself house/scratch (which is just another
way for those with ingenuity but no talent to rip off the real
artistes),the current teen-queen phase, heavy metal (it's all been
    done *years* ago, man.....).

    Hi there pop pickers :-)

Since I've now written a couple of notes, it's time to say hello.

I'm John Wallace, from Birmingham, a software techie working in/from
the Manufacturing Industries Application Centre for Technology.

The record collection at home includes a fairly wide variety of
stuff, but major featured artistes include:
Beatles/McCartney/Lennon, Clapton, Doobies, Robert Palmer, Prince,
Todd Rundgren, Squeeze, Stevie Wonder, etc.

There's a whole load of others too, but no time/space/point to list
them, (and anyway you won't have heard of half of them...)

    I'm not often in the office these days so I don't write many notes;
I read the stuff in batch when I get in. My favourite LPs tend to
be the ones I have on tape in the car at the moment.

    regards

    Hi!

My name is Shawn McLaughlin, and I work at the Mill in the Eastern
Massachusetts Financial Management Center as a Closing Accountant.
I've been with Digital for about 3 years, but have only recently
started using notes. I enjoy reading UK_MUSIC because I have always
been partial to British music versus American midwestern arena
schlock-rockers such as Toto, Kansas, Journey, etc.

I have varied interests within pop, and like: Eurythmics, Dire
Straits, Bowie, the Stones, Stevie Wonder (the older material),
Beatles (respect 'em but rarely listen to 'em), George Benson, Diane
Schuur (semi-obscure U.S. jazz/blues singer), Tracy Chapman, etc.

I like most singers who are on key, can't stand MJ but do enjoy
small doses of Prince (especially like Sign 'O the Times).

I think that Whitney is okay, could be better with improved production
and material (her voice is severely compressed on CD).

Country & Western and heavy metal have no place in my CD collection.

I look forward to getting a jump on the latest music coming out
of the UK, and hope to be corresponding with you soon.

                                                  Shawn

    Hi there,
I'm Julian, and have worked at Long Lane Logistics for
almost 3 years. Fascinating conference this, quite a lot of people
out there into similar stuff as me. Favourite period late 60's/early
70's, not much time for any of this #rap business or 99.99% of chart
    (material?).

Major musical influences include: America, B.J.H., Beatles,
CSN&Y, Chicken Shack, John Cooper Clarke, Cream, Doors, E.L.P.,
Enid (saw them last week), Howlin' Wolf, Jethro Tull, King Crimson,
Freddy King, Kinks, John Mayall, Pink Floyd, Jimmy Reed, Rolling
Stones, Savoy Brown (yes, all readers in the states please note!),
Smiths, Steely Dan, Stranglers, Tangerine Dream, Ten Years After,
The The, Who, etc. etc.........(amongst others too numerous to mention)

Dislikes: disco, soul, heavy metal, reggae and Michael
Jacklinson (or whatever his name is).

I've played in a couple of bands before now, bass for
one and drums for the other, but don't get much time for such activity
mainly due to shift work, etc. I play acoustic/slide guitar and

    Hi,
Spose I should do it properly although I've had some input
    elsewhere already.

    I'm Graham Bennett F.S. S.P.S. (T.S.B., P.S.I.). on the Starship.
Tastes change rapidly with me 'cos I play a 'style of music' 'till
I get really board. (But often come back to it).
At the mo' I listen mainly to 60's soul and R'n'B this is the stuff
I'm trying to play on my guitar ! Have been through loadsa phases
though Started of with sum of that Glam Rock (My first single was
Tiger Feet by Mud - what was yours ? another topic ?) I think that
was in '72 when I was 8, Gary Glitter was a bit special as well.
Then it was the Elvis Bit 'till he copped it ! I was very sad -
the day before my B'day as well. Then I hit the Long Haired bit
     - then I grew up :-) and did the MOD bit short hair, tonics, scooter
the lot I think a bit of the punk thing crept in there somewhere.
Yolk Yellow Hair, Black Feather earing all black clothes ...
After that I've just drifted here and there really, Much like
the music being played commercially, or is it that I have just got
older and the fads are parsing by (under, over) me ?
Anyhow these are a few entries in my collection. FAD order.

    Hello,

Mark Saxby's the name and I'm a scummy contractor at The Crescent

I like all sorts of music. For instance in my record collection
I've got ABC (a bit of a favourite), Sam Cooke, New Order (like
them), The Clash (the GREATEST punk band of the lot!), Vivaldi (not
really relevant here!), JM Jarre, Japan, Talking Heads, Level 42,
Bryan Ferry, and... I could go on.

I used to attend lots of concerts when I lived in Bournemouth and
reckon that Kid Creole and the Coconuts were one of the best groups
I ever saw (twice in fact), a real SHOW. I was also favourably
impressed by Siouxie and the Banshees and Spandau Ballet, but Madness
and Depeche Mode were rather dissapointing!

I recently saw Level 42 at Wembley and they were FANTASTIC! Definitely
the best concert I've ever seen and I'm now a dedicated fan of this
group's music (I had a friend who thought they were great long before
the Chinese Way, and we all laughed at him, maybe I'll find out
    what he's into now!).

I'm Tammi Taylor and I work in finance & Administration, Landover,
    MD.

I worked for a rock promoter in Boston for 8 years as a private
secretary for rock bands, so my taste in music is wide and varied.
I absolutely HATE heavy metal (except maybe Van Halen, sometimes
I like Guns 'n Roses, ok, there are exceptions!).
(And I have tons of "war stories" from working with these bands,
    believe me!)

I've been with DEC for 2 years in May.

    Bye!

My name is Norma Nicol and I work in CAS in sunny Livingston,I'm
    22 years old.
Having worked with DEC for the past Year and a half!!!! I have finally
sussed out how to use Vaxnotes.(Or should I say someone has shown
    me how to use them.)

I'm interested in this file as I enjoy most kinds of music except
    from Heavy Metal.

    My Likes are:- Luther Vandross,George Benson,Jonathon Butler,Fleetwood
Mac,Deacon Blue,Texas,Hue and Cry (some good Scottish Bands there)
Gloria Estafan,Steve Winwood and Chris Rea.

    Definately a mixed group.
Look forward to joining in with more notes.

I've been wandering about aimlessly here for a fair while now, so I
guess it's time to come clean....

My name is Richard Roberts, & I work for IOSG (ALL-IN-1 Development) in
DEC Park II. Off and on I've been with DEC over two years, this last
incarnation has lasted just about a year. Oh I'm 23 too.

My musical taste waddles sporadically like most people's, but currently
includes such rock legends as: Faith Brothers, Elvis Costello, Marc
Bolan, Journey, Bill Staines, Squeeze, Rolling Stones, Billy Bragg ...
as well as some nostalgia from 60s/70s Motown, The Sweet (!), The Jam,
Rainbow, early Chris de Burgh... I may have fibbed about the 'rock legends'
bit. I love good lyrics, as long as they are sung with a voice that
    doesn't sound like a tractor reversing up a 1:3 incline. Don't much
care for much Heavy Metal, but do think some of the greatest ballads
    ever written/sung have come from so-called HM-groups...

    Hi, my name is Jonathan.
I am writing from ADG Valbonne were I am working for the summer.
Normally, I am a student at the University of London, reading
    Computer Science.
My musical interests range from mature groups to new, up and
    comings also :

Pink Floyd, Genesis, The Who, Whitesnake, Yes, Phil Collins,
Mike & the Mechanics, Tony Banks, David Coverdale, Depeche Mode,
    simple minds, Blondie, etc.

I also like a smattering of the Charts, generally those that made
the headlines between 80 and 85 only :

Pet Shop Boys, a-ha (a little, not too much), and a couple of
    others.

Then there's the different stuff :

    	Mike Oldfield, etc.

And finally, hard rock, metal, heavy metal, etc :

AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, (Whitesnake should really be
in this class), Def Leppard, Scorpions, ZZ-top, etc.

There's a load more I haven't mentioned in all of the classes. I love
music; 'tiz ma life ! My only descrimination between good and bad
music is : if a human plays it, it's normally good. If a computer
plays it (and a couple of ponces prance about on stage in front of a
bank of flashing lights (BROS !)), then it's crap !
(To any BROS fans : I'm not sorry !)

Keep the music alive, live and good...

Jonathan (alias Pynk (as in Floyd)).

You didna bore me...I was complaining about the lack of noting in this
file recently....just felt very quiet in here...but that might be a
bit presumptuous of me as I hadn't entered a note for about a year.

Well I thought I'd better sign in as I have been reading this file
    for a little while.

    I am employed in FMIC - IS ( I didn't say work).

My musical taste is quite varied but on reviewing my collection
I seem to have an affinity with Singer/Songwriter types rather than
    groups.

My prime interest is in the Blues, and no I am not old enough to
have met Robert Johnson, but I have seen B.B. King.
Have quite a few Blues albums and like the older Miles Davis and
    John Coltrane.

Musical tastes are : Joni Mitchel, Tom Waits, Ry Cooder, Rickie
Lee Jones, Carmel, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Chris Rea, Joe Jackson
    etc.

I almost hate to admit it but I have nearly got into C&W as I have

hope it's still allowed to join this conference.

My name is Brigitte Jaeger, am living in Vienna, Austria, working
for Digital for 6 years now, currently as ALL-IN-1 instructor with
Ed. Services (or is it already EIS??)

My musical favourites at the moment are Tears for Fears (I LOVE
"The seeds of love" - hope to see them someday in concert), but
I also have other all time favourites like Pink Floyd (seen them
twice), Prince, Peter Gabriel, Genesis, etc.

I don't have specific dislikes, maybe the real heavy sort of heavy
metal or acid house (still in fashion?). Mostly I pick out one or
two songs of an artist/group that I like (f.i. "If only I could"
by Sidney Youngblood - even top ten music does sometimes sound good
to me). And sometimes I like to listen to classical music like
    Beethoven, Mussorksky, Ravel.

Hello,

My name is Sorin Vlasiu, I'm 35, I live in Brussels (Belgium) and work in
Digital EIS Projects & Consulting.
I like music of all kinds but I have a strong preference for heavy metal and
progressive rock.
I'm a long date fan of Uriah Heep and actually also of Queensryche.
My main preferences are:
Uriah Heep, Queensryche, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, King Crimson, Pink Floyd,
Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Q5, Oliver Magnum, Dire Straits, Santana, Steely
Dan, Kansas, Iron Maiden, Chick Corea, Return to Forever, Fates Warning,
Annihilator, Metallica, Kraftwerk, Aphrodite's Child, ELO, Eagles, Talk Talk,
Metal Church, Accept, Scorpions, Chris Rea, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Joe
Satriani, Vangelis, UB40, U2, Burning Spear, Bob Marley, Aswad, Ramones,
Zamfir, Barclay James Harvest, 10CC, ABBA, Platters, Nat King Cole, ..
.. wow I'm tired so I stop here.
I cannot say that I dislike some kind of music but in the some genres of
music I only like specific songs or artists. For example I don't like
all Michael Jackson's music but only the "Thriller" LP and from his last LP
the "Dirty Diana" song.

Best regards,
Sorin

Pet shop boys, Gloria Estefan and MSM, Sade, George Michael,....,
eh...,And I can go on like this! But I can't forget to mention here
my Most favourite band which is: Spandau Ballet!! I have been a big
fan of them for about 5 years now and I had lots of great times
being an SB-fan!! I recently saw them 'live' again, and I reckon
they are one of the best live bands that I've ever seen!!
I'd like to "meet" some more Spandau Ballet fans via this 'medium'!

My name is Christophe Bernard; I live in Lyons and work as a consultant
for French IS-ADG in Evry (near Paris).

    I am 24 and I like mainly Indie music ( British/French/US ) but also
some dance music as well .

I dislike French varietes and all kinds of rock/pop designed for US
radios, i.e. Springsteen, Rolling Stones 70's-90's, Dire Straits, U2
and the likes - I could even say that sometimes I truly hate that.

Still looking for the adequate therapy, though...
5.147JUMBLY::OCONNORFri Mar 02 1990 18:2715
Hi Christophe, you don't travel from Evry to Lyons every day do you ?? I
wouldn't like to try it. I lived in nearby Grenoble for awhile and
sometimes popped up to Lyons for concerts. A lot less `sportif' than
Grenoble (mercifully). I remember walking out on Bowie's 1983 concert
(The Serious Moonlight Tour) in Lyons. He was going through his
    `greatest hits' at the time.

You also have better weather and venues for music festivals (e.g. Orange).
Your hates seem to be impeccably well chosen, so don't worry about
finding a therapist just yet -;)

Hi I'm Tim Price, I thought I'd better introduce myself as I've been
noting for a while in this conference and just come across this topic.

I'm working in Queens House, Reading in the Marketing Services
department as my industrial placement year from Brighton poly. Now the
important bit, music, my taste is mainly indie stuff, including most of
the dance crossover stuff, particular groups are The Smiths (had to
mention them as they were so good in their time), Stone Roses (older
stuff is better), Wedding Present, Ride, Billy Bragg, Happy Mondays,
the Fall, New Order... the list is endless and quite wide as it
stretches back to The Byrds and Stones and out to Depeche Mode and some
    of the new dance stuff.

I have interviewed several bands for Brighton Poly's paper and have
published a fanzine (copies going out soon I promise). I buy quite a
few records but not as many as Matty and get to as many gigs as
    possible and that's about it.

I'm on my year out from the lovely Portsmouth poly.

I mean, this is the UK music conference, so I'll stop wittering on about
Poly's etc and get to the thing you all (don't) want to know... MUSIC !!

    My tastes are well varied...
Pink Floyd & Roger Waters (the greatest)
Genesis & Phil Collins Solo stuff
        Jethro Tull
        Eagles & Don Henley
Metallica (Told you it was varied)
        Marillion & Fish
        Rush
Faith no more (doesn't everyone ? - Teenybopper headbangers)
Even some classical (what? classical AND metallica?)

without ratholing this topic, I'd just like to justify my teenybopper

to pander the chart buying public, and some have become 'the bad boys'
to the 14 year old girls. Don't get me wrong, though, I do believe 14
year old girls CAN like the music, but there are quite a few who only

    here's another new (old) noter.
I'm reading this conference for about four month, and I think now is
the time, to give you some background on my person.

    Name: Peter Bruehl
    Age: 28

I'm working at DEC since July 1987.

My current Job ist Data Base Management for SMART Application.
I work in Hamburg, living in Jork (not York or New York).

I like: Music, biking, darting and to have some lovely envenings a
week, to be with my beloved wife and my beloved daugther

I like bands like: It Bites (absolutely number one), IQ, Genesis,
Toto, Rush, Gong, Sting, P. Gabriel, S. Hackett,
Big Country and a lot more.

My favourite albums are: 1.) Once Around The World - It Bites
                                 Seconds Out - Genesis
Voyage Of The Acolyte - S. Hackett
The Big Lad In The Windmill - It Bites
                                 Living Proof - IQ

Time Is The Key - Gong

    Combo Meissen?

I'm playing drums in a four peace band, called Common Ground.
I enjoy this a lot. And I'm sure, that will have some success, soon.

It looks like we need to start another topic, a "I won't be reading this
conference anymore" note. Well, I'll put my goodbyes in here. I leave DEC
today after almost 4 years & 3 years of noting (but mostly read-only) in this
conference. Considering that I'm based in Galway which isn't exactly the
musical centre of the universe, this conference has been a godsend for me - ya
beat all other conferences hands down, so thanks & keep on notin'. Since the
company I'm going to isn't even on the Internet (yet), I shall be completely
without musical guidance. Sigh.

Ultravox, INXS, Wall Of Voodoo, The Stranglers, Eurythmics, Peter Gabriel,
	Phil Collins/Genesis, Queen, Simple Minds..

I have a definite dislike for rave, rap, House, Madonna &
	Stock Aitken & Waterman Clones.....

I have been playing the bass guitar for about 3 years ( And boy are my
fingers sore :-) ). I started learning the guitar about 5 years ago, but
a friend of mine needed a bass player for a band and I've never looked
back, although a do pick up the guitar once in a while. In fact if you
were at the DMO Xmas party at Thorpe park in 1990, you'd have seen the
	band playing.

I've recently joined another band, playing varied music, but mainly
Blues/Soul, Clapton & Hendrix Covers. and after 12 weeks of heavy
rehearsal are now ready to go and play, and we start at the Black Lion
	in Woodcote on Sunday 8pm.

I've been a reader up to now, but as I'm now up to date, I'll be making
the odd conmment here and there.

	See you in the Conference

I'm Debby and work at Harefield Place, Uxbridge.

Music loves are U2, REM, The Waterboys, Lloyd Cole, Crowded House,
Julian Cope, Robbie Robertson, Dylan, Simple Minds, Suzanne Vega,
Clannad, Maria McKee, Van Morrison, Hothouse Flowers (can't imagine why
those two go together...:^)), and so many more I can't think of. Hate
most of the dance-cr*p around at the moment and the whole 70's revival
thang, apart from anything to do with T Rex as Marc Bolan was my first
love (aged 4 I had a huge poster of him on my wall - what a hip kid!).

I have just started here after coming to the UK from New Zealand. The
main sort of music I am interested in is alternative, current favourite
bands include Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, Fugazi, Carter USM,
Leatherface, Buffalo Tom, 3D's, Bailter Space, Spud.

Have seen quite a few bands since arriving here and I'm slowly starting
to get into the local music but am not impressed with most of it.

I'm Terry Burgess and you'll find me -- at the moment -- at the exotic
Winnersh Triangle.

At the moment I am listening to, ugh-hum, er, Uriah Heep. Honestly. And
before that we had Wishbone Ash on!

Yes, we are truly with it cats.

I am wearing a TROUSERSHOCK BC tee-shirt, and I like their stuff
quite a lot.

What else do I like? Well, in no particular order of preference:

Be Bop Deluxe/Bill Nelson, Stone Roses, XTC, The Church,
Michael Schenker/UFO/MSG, Mott the Hoople, Gerry Rafferty, Elton,
Georgie Michael, the Beatles, Mega City Four, The Fall, the Smiths,
Trousershock BC, Slug, Beats Working, the Faces, 72-ish Status Quo,
John Mellencamp, Swervedriver, The Orb, KLF(rip), Shamen, and many others...

The problem is that I am an old man that still likes new stuff...

5.202...would you like me to introduce you...FROCKY::EDDF14::FRANZKOWIAKFri Aug 28 1992 16:2016
	Hi everybody,

I'm a student, working part-time for DIGITAL, and have plenty of time
listening to weird UK-music. Besides this I like to watch MTV, getting
carried away with all those flickering lights and sounds.

So my favourite UK-musicans are Kevin Coyne, Peter Hammill, Peter Gabriel,
XTC, Bill Bruford and Twelfth Night (a group which doesn't exist anymore).

At the end of May I was in London and it was great; sun was shining, a
magican-festival at Covent Garden and lots of funky people around Camden
Town. I really learned to love these and many other places of England and
London. But as a German I love my homecountry too, except for the riots
in Rostock this week with all the warriors and brutality.

So, good bye for now, Knud.

I like all sorts of music but if I was to try and classify it I'd say late 70's/
early 80's and indie (with a slight tendency towards the dance end of it.)

I really really hated that hideous Anything I Do by Brian Adams.

I missed a few important one off my likes list : Rolling Stones
(sympathy for the devil and all that cal), The Beatles (esp white album
stuff not written by Mr.Frog Chorus), Sisters of Mercy, Fields of the
    Nephilim, PWEI....the list is endless...

Hi Steve,

send a mail message to CRL::"listserv@jhuvm.hcf.jhu.edu" (or
listserv@jhuvm.hcf.jhu.edu@internet if you're using allin1) with one
line in the message, `subscribe 4ad-l Steve Brooks', and you'll
receive a load of discussion about 4ad bands. As the signal-to-
noise ratio is poor, you can send `signoff 4ad-l' to get off
the list again! You'll get around 40 messages per day.
Cheers,

Chris.

I've now lived in Ayr for a whole year now after previously living in
London for over 10 years.

Not quite as many clubs but there's no pollution and the view from my
window is out of this world - over the Firth of Clyde to the Isle of Arran
and Ailsa Craig.

Musical tastes - most things esp. Jazz-tinged Hip-hop (and some of the harder
stuff), Acid jazz, indie rock, dance (exc trance - too boring as I don't
take drugs). Hates include Heavy Metal/Rock, Rock Dinosaurs, crap pop songs,
music without soul and people who slag other peoples tastes.

Euan Barker, NIS, Bristol, UK. Currently into Counting Crows, Aimee
Mann, Crowded House, U2, Paul Weller and music that has generally got
some feeling to it, an old, out-dated expression I know.

Very biased Jam fan (still consider them to be the best band ever), which
led heavily into the mod/2-tone scene in the late
70's, early-mid 80's and progressed onto scootering scene and 60's
Motown and Northern Soul once old enough to get into all-nighters at
Scooter runs, and before anyone slates them I still own a Lambretta !

I love dance music and fancied myself as a dj a number of years ago -
so much so that I managed to blagg my way into dj'ing at a Freshers
Ball at Uni. I still want to get into bedroom dj'ing, but haven't had
the time this past 2/3 years.

One SL1200 and one dodgy panasonic linear tracking deck, I'm saving up
for the other Technics (have been for 2 years now, not done very well).

For cheapness I've got a Made2Fade Mixer, which is basic, but quality
    unlike the Tandy Mixers.

    Cheers,

I've been saving for a couple of technics for a while, I'm not doing
particularly well either. The made2fade mixer is the best mixer I've
come across for its price, you can't get much better.

Well, DJ SY was always a firm favourite, his scratching was superb,
wish I could do that. When I was in Warrington I used to listen to Stu
Allen and 808 State, always a good show.

I wouldn't mind getting hold of loads of kit, but it's the money you
see. It's not only the kit, but the small fortune you need to spend on
records to keep up with the latest tunes.

is it possible to get a kit which will not play 'Hi Ho Silver Lining',
or if it does - refuse to turn the volume down during the chorus?
    These should be compulsory....

re .245,

just as well I didn't mention TS&V's original name. Oh alright, it was `Billy
F**k and the Scrotums'. No, it wasn't my idea.

Vernon Vomit and the Lumps had a brief career in the Reading area.
Vernon (not his real name) was a pretty natty bassist, but
unfortunately he had a prog rock fixation.

another great name, even if he did probably like Keith Emerson's piano
concertos.

    Hi

PJ here on short term contract, but well interested in what I have seen
here, I suppose I should start with a like list, but that would take
days. Basically Albinoni to Zappa, but NO C&W, Rap or sickly sweet
boy/manufactured bands and Stadium rip off is for the mugs. So that
leaves lots of room to agree or have a go!!

Enjoy the sounds and don't get hung up.

This is a boyband free zone now cause the only decent one split up in
April- ;) Plenty of boys left to talk about though...

I do agree with the rap comment though..

    PJ,
    1. I presume by stadium rip-off you are talking about Oasis?
    2. In strong agreement about C&W
    3. Not in strong agreement about rap, but there is a lot of it I
    dislike.

    Andrea,
Is Robbie's own material going to be any good, or do you think he's

    re Robbie,

Not sure.. but then again he has been keeping some good company so
maybe some of it will rub off. He never showed an interest as a TT
member in writing (apart from 1 co-wrote song with Gary B and Mark
Owen.) Looking forward to hearing it - just out of interest.
