So, the poor guy has had to suffer another tragedy ..

Last year he lost some of his band and Stevie Ray Vaughan in a plane
crash .... now his young son dies in a bizarre accident ...

He must wonder what he has done to deserve so much grief in his life.

Will he give up playing ?

Will his old drug and drink habits return ?

I hope he has the strength to get through it ....

Poor chap is cut up about it. I know someone who knew Eric Clapton's
   son...

Seems pretty cruel, and a weird way to lose a child, he must feel as
though he's personally marked down for tragedy.

From a selfish point of view I hope he doesn't stop playing, but I
    wouldn't be surprised.

His 5 year old son was killed when he fell
out of the window in his mothers 53rd story apartment
in New York. Apparently the cleaning person was
cleaning the windows and left one open and the child
    fell out.

Anybody know if any legal action is being brought against the pr*ck who
    left the window open ?
786.9SUBURB::TUDORKSKEADUGENGAWed Mar 27 1991 17:505
No but they are considering legal action against the owner of the
apartment (I believe EC himself) since in New York any living
accomodation over a certain height is supposed to have safety bars at
    the windows.

    It sounded really bizarre.

The cleaner opened the window and the child ran past her and fell out
    of the window! Very odd.

The legal action would indeed be against E C as the owner the law being
any apartment with children under the age of twelve must be fitted with
    safety rails.

However I feel it should be the chap that E C bought the penthouse
appartment of as E C only bought it so his ex wife did not have to move
Conner was living there with his mum and this block for about two
    years..

How about suing the architect? Or suing NYC for allowing the building to be
built in the first place?

I'm surprised at the reaction in this conference to this news. Anything could
have happened. The newspapers are just horror merchants and aren't interested
in justice, just in selling more papers. I wouldn't trust any stories about
cleaners leaving windows open. It was just a sad accident. How about leaving
it at that, rather than pointing an accusing finger at everyone possible?

I'm not an Eric Clapton fan, but I dislike morbid newspapers stories even more.

I'm sorry for the guy - to have contributed (however innocently) to the
death of a child must be an awful thing to live with.

    Re .14

Which guy? How did whoever it was contribute?

I suspect if it had happened in Britain there would have been no talk
of suing anyone. It sounds like the ambulance-chasers are at work
    again.

Maybe not in the UK, but lawyers here, including 2 I have on retainer,
ARE scum, and cannot be trusted. My 2 cents, true, but I'm sure alot
of folks see it this way too.

But, EC should not be bothered by them now, in his time of sorrow.

Let's just wish everyone involved comfort thru this time...

Sorry Keith - I started it by observing that the New York authorities
were considering prosecuting Eric Clapton for not conforming to the
safety laws which state that all apartments over a certain height
should have windows fitted with safety bars.

There is an Atlantic divide over perceptions of the legal profession -
probably due to their more voracious activities in the states,
    ambulance chasing etc.

Not at all. All solicitors that I have ever dealt with should be
put into small cardboard boxes....with no air holes...

    Hello everybody
    I'm Carlo Vigano' (Italy)
I'm very sorry for my intrusion but I need very much your help:
I'm pianist in a small italian band ,in this summer we play a concert.
We desperately searching about the word of the excellent "LAYLA"
for play it.I know your difficult to answer me but you are my
    only last possibility.
    Thank 's for your help
    Carlo.
786.24LAYLA wordsTRUCKS::LITTENThu May 09 1991 15:0112
Carlo,

If you can't get the words from the readers of this conference, then
try (if you have not done so already), the GUITAR conference. The readers
there are very likely to have played and sung LAYLA themselves.

Regards,

Dave

(get back to me on Dave Litten @SBP..I do not know the words, but will
see if I have them at home...don't hold out too much hope).
786.25Acoustic gig at a secret venue !ZERO::JOHNSONWho's on first.. What's on second...Tue Jan 07 1992 14:2315

Did anyone catch the competition on Bob Harris's show last night?

Apparently Eric is doing a secret 'acoustic concert' to be recorded
by MTV for thier 'Unplugged' show. Radio 1 have 100 pairs of tickets
for the concert on the 16th January. The winners will be bussed to the
venue from broadcasting house that evening.

I think the question was "What is the address of the house in Miami
where Eric stayed when he recorded the 'I shot the sherrif' sessions ?"

    	Any ideas ??

If you like eric clapton then Unplugged is an album worth a listen. I
have seen some of the Unplugged video on MTV , its certainly different.
For those who have not seen any of it, its all acoustic guitar!!!!!!
Its a live album all played on acoustic guitar in a very much blues
style , the version of layla is real different. I like it , its the
sort of album that grows on you. It's nothing like cream, or any of the
old clapton stuff, its just so different.
