584.1Erasure - SupernatureSHAPES::BROWNMMon Jan 15 1990 17:0211
    Erasure - Supernature (originally a hit for Cerrone in '78)

    This comes in a special wallet sleeve with a snowflake shaped hole in
    the front. Ths tracks are 2 different mixes of `Supernature' and a
    horrible version of `You Surround Me'. According to Record Collector
    Magazine there are only 5000 copies pressed. There are none left in
    Basingstoke or Reading and there was 1 left at Guildfor HMV last
    weekend.

584.2Pete Green LP?LARVAE::BRIGGSThey use computers don't they?Mon Jan 15 1990 17:318

    Is my translucent green vinyl pressing of Pete Green's 'In the Skies'
    LP released in the early 80s worth anything? It would be classed as
    mint condition I believe.

    Your best bet is to look in Record Collector and see if anyone is
    selling one. You usually see the top prices in those magazines.

    The first Stone Roses 12 inch single now fetches upto 60 squid at
    Record Fairs, another favourite is the picture disk of "War" by U2
    which can be priced around 30-40 squids.

    Also the Waterboys early 7 inch singles in picture sleeves, old punk
    stuff like Slaughter and the Dogs sometimes fetch a nice price.

    Not forgetting ... all the Cure back catalogue, esp 7 inchers in pic
    sleeves and mint condition, same goes for Clash back catalogue, The
    Jam, The Undertones ... stuff like that. Usually good if you have them
    all and sell them in a batch ... when me and my brother (sounds like a
    song) got rid of a lot of stuff (including all the Cure, Clash amd
    Undertones back cat) we got a very good price ... but then again my
    brother's into all this collecting business.

    When we were in the States (have I ever mentioned that before?) we saw
    a Cd promo copy of the Sisters of Mercy Floodland album for $100, John
    had 2 copies at home ... seems there only cost a tenner each (normal Cd
    price), the guy who was selling the ones in the UK couldn't get rid off
    them! I believe Ed (Arthur) got one as a pressie when he visted the UK.

    Also he bought a H*ll of a lot of promo 12 inchers etc which were el
    cheapo in the states but fetched a lot of money back in the UK, Pixies,
    Cure, Bunnymen stuff ... also Metallica and thrash stuff ... well if
    you know what the latest fad is then I suppose you can make money on
    almost anything.

    You get a lot of Cd singles coming out in funny wallets with Limited
    Edition splattered all over it, but aren't worth a lot in a few years
    time ... not syaing that the Erasure thingy is the same, but I've got
    some others like the Fall, Spear of Destiny, things like that ... when
    I've tried to sell them , no one wants them cos theres so many around.

    OK so I'm beginning to ramble, but only because this is bit of a hobby
    of mine ... buying and selling, ducking and diving, wheeling and a
    dealing ... it's the Sister Brothers (OK so I watch Going Live).

    I don't think that the WttPD pic-disc is worth that much - if you
    want to talk Frankie stuff worth serious $$ try a promo copy of
    'Welcome..' that is the _same_ as the double album - also the original
    16 min. 'Relax' is worth some serious $$.

    Along with Ed, I get things for the songs, they just become valuable
    later. Apparently, Ed and Stuart, the Unbearable 7" (Wonderstuff) is
    now worth something, as is thier very first release - the Love is a
    merry go round Ep. Since I bought both of these cheaply in a dingy
    basement in Birmingham, I'm intrigued by thier value.

584.9Are my assets diminishing?(!)JANUS::STANHOPETue Jan 16 1990 19:3111
    Back in the late 70s/early 80s I bought lots of coloured vinyl singles.
    In 83/4 I remember seeing that 'Roxanne' by The Police (blue),
    and 'Message in a Bottle' (Green) were worth condsiderably more than I
    paid for them.
    Anybody have any idea if they're still in demand?

    Thanks,
    	-Graham.

    ps. Cheap Trick's 'Live at the Budokan' is an incredible bright Yellow!
        (This used to be valuable too!)

    Erasure - `Blue Savannah' 3rd 12"  10,000 copies (is says on the
    sleeve). One sided with 13" square outer sleeve. Mixes are Der
    Deutsche Mix I & II. Mix II is available on the 2nd 12" while Mix I is
    available on the 2nd CD. All fans of Kraftwerk should hunt this down
    for the first mix, while Hip Hop types will like the 2nd mix.

584.18Seen in today's NMEWELMTS::GREENBM.D. of the A.M.B.Thu Mar 29 1990 16:0018
    This is an appeal for what I consider to be the ultimate limited
    edition. normally, of course, I don't bother with seven inch, twelve
    inch, fifty eight different remixes and additional tracks on CD
    only, but this one is a must.

    This limited edition is only going to be available to people who
    live in the Granada TV area, and will only be available for the
    16 days leading up to the release of the inspiral Carpets first
    lp on April 23rd.

    It consists of a milk bottle (yes, really!) advertising the lp along
    with the slogan 'Cool as Milk' (replacing the original Cool as F***).
    Apparently, these things will go out with regular milk bottles on
    regular milk deliveries.

    I would dearly love one of these bottles, so if anyone can help......?

584.21Is it inSpiral Carpets or Inspiral Carpets?SHAPES::BROWNMThis is MY decade!Thu Mar 29 1990 16:509
    I'll try and get the bottles, and one for me too!

    More Inspiral Carpets: `This Is How It Feels' is out on at least 2
    cassingles. One contains the same tracks as the 7", while the other
    contains the 1st 3 tracks off the 12" and a song named `Whiskey'. Well
    there you go!

    Well, Matty, living in the cultural wasteland of isolation that
    is Welwyn Garden City, I always referred to them as the Inspral
    Carpets, but it appears that In Spiral Carpets is correct.

    This all reminds me of the great (yawn) 'how do you pronounce Depeche
    Mode?' debate a few years ago (oblig. smilie borrowed from the Tim
    O'Connor stock)
