Talking Heads ..... 1980 (Free Trade Hall Manchester)

Above, was and I'm nearly sure, will always be the best. They were
at their pinnacle before finding singles success!

I've been to a lot, but Springsteen really delivered at Wembley
Stadium - went up to Leeds overnight to see him their too!!!

Must admit, that I like the club gigs these days - any Ruthless
Blues gig at Angies, and Laverne Brown at Cricketers. What great
    memories!!

    David.

Best concert - Queen Leiden, Holland 1986
						Great atmosphere,
						brilliant performance!

Most dissapointing -	Paul Simon	Rotterdam, Holland 1987
(He did none of his oldies, and most of
the show was given by the African group
doing all the stuff from "Graceland"-
not bad in itself, but I'd paid to see
				 Paul Simon :-(	)

Want to see - Bryan Ferry

	Cheers, Steve

    Best:

U2, Edinburgh Nite Club, Nov 80 (support was Altered Images)
Passions, Edinburgh Nite Club, Feb 81
Squeeze, Edinburgh Roxy (I think), May 81
Rain Parade, Manchester University Students Union, Sept 85
Julian Cope, Manchester International 2, March 87 (came out
of that one and found my friend's car had been stolen)
BAD, Manchester International 2, March 87

    Worst:

David Bowie at Murrayfield, Edinburgh, June 83 (approx), on the
"Let's Dance" tour - not his fault: we arrived late, were miles
from the stage, and it was absolutely peeing with rain.

New Order, Edinburgh Assembly Rooms, Sept 83 (approx). They
were really lacklustre, and I was really disappointed, because
I liked them so much, then and now.

Bhundu Boys, Manchester International, Sept 86. Well, far from
the worst I've seen, and everyone else liked them, but I just
    	got bored.

Would most like to have seen:

The Associates, when they were still Rankine and Mackenzie.
Had a ticket to see them - they broke up the day before the
    	concert!

    	    Primevals ,Edinburgh Venue
    	    Julian Cope , Glasgow Barrowland

These were all rockers' and left you dazed and confused for
    	days.

    Worst: Clash , Apollo
Because I waited and waited and waited and finally had to
leave cause they didn't hadn't come on ( in fact they hadn't
    	    arrived )

    Where are the Waterboys ????
These guys MUST be the best band I ever saw, in a two month period
I saw them 4 times, each time they impressed me more and more.....
The soul, the power, the emotion..no other band can equal them in
    these 3 vital areas.
Of course I've seen others (@ 200) at the last count, and others
which have come close include :-
Rush , Wembley 29/04 the business when it comes to a marrying of
superb musicianship and thought provoking/entertaining visual effects.
Dylan, the man , the voice , the enigma...on the '84 tour I went
primarily to see Santana , but Dylan just knocked me out.He was
even better with Tom Petty and co. at Wembley last October.
The Icicle Works , a very, very underrated band but they do burn
live as well as writing some of the best rock songs of the past
    5 years.
    John Cougar Mellencamp....Great !!
U2 on the War tour, but not since
Gang of Four/The Beat at Gateshead '82 , brilliant festival music
Van Halen (well Dave Lee Roth really) Donnington '84 very amusing
as well as being technically brilliant.

Various acts that I wish I never include :-

Springsteen '85 (cue howls of protest) what does this guy have that
    2000,000,000 others don't ??
Echo and the Bunnymen , Wembley '87 the stage swamped their minor
    talent.
The Alarm, they may alarm someone, but it sure isn't me.

About the Waterboys .I spoke with Mike Scott at a party
over Christmas and he said a UK tour was likely early Summer.

But I don't think he was in much of a state to be taken seriously
    	at the time :^)

What else did Mike Scott say? The album has been due for ages.
Do you have some regular contact with the man?

    	Best gig:
DR. FEELGOOD at Hammersmith 76/77 ish!

Why? Had not heard anything they had done before,
and was 'dragged' along by a friend.... stunning,
exciting stuff.... loved every minute of it.
	     Wilko amazin'....

	Other good gigs:

Supertramp (late 70s saw 4 times consistanty good.)
	     Yes (twice)
	     Pink Floyd (Animals and Brick)
	     Emerson Lake and Palmer (twice)
	     Dire Straits (twice)

	Worst gig:
Be Bop Delux... the support group were the
Doctors of Madness.... they should have been put away!
We sat thru a couple of numbers, but just had to go
out to the bar! it was so awful....BBD werent much better.

Sorry, Graham, but I beg to differ with you, re: Erasure, Hammy
Odeon, 1988. I had never liked them till my friend bought tickets
for the gig in May. I thought they were superb live, even if I did
wonder why they were doing a cover of Dollar's `Oh L'amour'...
later to be told by an Erasure freak that they recorded it in 1985,
and it got to No1 on Europe!!
