1033.0. "Jools Holland on TV" by WARHED::GILLILAND () Tue Jun 09 1992 14:18

Anyone see the programme on Saturday night with Jools Holland in
America, riding round on his Vincent Rapide, searching for `The Lost
Chord'? At one point he had a black (well more light brown actually)
bloke on the back, doing a song that had a chorus something like `Down
in the Street'. Can anyone tell me who this bloke is, and what the song
    is?

    Phil Gill.

The chap - I think - was one of the Neville Brothers. I have the last
30 mins on tape, so I'll look again tonight and check the song title
    for you.

I enjoyed this show - did anyone catch 'Walking to New Orleans' when it
was repeated on Friday? I wish I'd taped it, great stuff.

Yes, I taped them both. I'm about halfway through watching the first
one, "Walking to New Orleans". The highlight for me so far has been
Sting's performance in the tunnel. Something about Bourbon St. Where
does this song come from and is this Sting rendition available
    anywhere?

It's "Moon over Bourbon Street" taken from his "Dream of the Blue
Turtles" album which is still available. I think it's self penned
rather than a cover and it's another result of Sting's reading
matter; inspiration courtesy of a book about modern day vampires.
And no, I'm not a member of the Sting fan club. 8^)

Highlight of 'Walking to New Orleans' for me was Jools Holland
playing the piano with Fats Domino...

From the "The Lost Chord" I particularly enjoyed the jam featuring
Jools, George Harrison, Joe Brown and was that Ray Cooper on
percussion? That Neville chappy had a damn fine song too.

p.s. However good the above was it did'nt rate with the experience
of seeing Tom Jones singing "Unbelievable" with EMF over the weekend.
I almost choked when I heard that The Man with the Golden Groin
regularly features this song as part of his Las Vegas repertoire.

It's Herbie Flowers, not Herbie Flower. Remember Mikey, it's like the
    beer.

I have to agree with Barry, that Tom Jones programme was unbelievable.
    I loved it.

These programmes are just great. I see the closing number on Walking to
New Orleans was penned by Jools Holland and called Mr Jazz. I guess
this is available somewhere. Anyone know where? These programs could
cost me serious money. Is there a soundtrack CD of either programme?

The track was Dr Jazz and is on one of the early
Jools Holland albums which I could only get on import
about 5 years ago from canada. I think its called something like
Jools Holland meets rock a boogie billy. There are a couple of
albums with different versions of the same track on - I cant
remember the names of the albums - helpful huh! - I could check
my album for a discography if you want?
