1262.0. "Christmas number 1 - 1994" by COMICS::WEGG (Some hard boiled eggs and some nuts.) Mon Dec 05 1994 16:11

Any predictions for this years number one?!

Apparently Pope John Paul II is favourite with his reading
of The Rosary (whatever that is), but there's strong competition
from an unusually large field of other "novelties".

Contenders are Victor Meldrew, Claud Greengrass, MC Dale and the
Barcodes, Captain Sensible and Cliff Richard (with a cover version
	of the rosary).

	Ian.

I reckon East 17 have peaked to early (oo-er).

My vote goes for some mindless techno one-hit-wonders who I've never
heard of (a la Baby D, Whigfield etc)

Guy

'sides, East 17 are _damned_ ugly

    RE -1.

I saw their vid on The Big Brekkie this morning. Definately going to
No.1, especially with that "Zagamuffin in the House" attitude !!!

    Superb.

Oh bummer I missed that! I'll have my eye on TOTP this week just in
    case they appear on there!

They've done some excellent hits -"Fink the Funky Fish"
"Met her at the bus-stop for the 46A"
"A gypsy stole my personal stereo"
    				      ...etc

    ;-)))

P.S. Well, maybe 'hits' is a bit optimistic, but....

What about the 'Power Rangers' then ? ...released
    today I think .....

MC Dale & The Barcodes are now at No. 50 and in my
opinion rank WAY ABOVE this Whigfield ( aka ' The
    Equals ' aka ' Gazza sings Lindesfarne ' ) crud !!

Sorry to say I'm getting to quite like the East 17
    offering ?!?!?!?

    Yours embarrassedly ,

Anybody else think that the East 17 thing bears/bares more than a passing
resemblance to 'Keeping the Dream Alive' by Freiheit (which I hated
also) which in turn bore a resemblance to some Paul McCartney ditty,
    which in turn.......

yes. That's precisely what I've been thinking since I heard Freiheit in the
DEC shop the other day.

I too thought it was Freiheit when I first heard the song last week.

Could be Captain Sensible, with his particularly horrible version of the
Hokey Cokey. He deserves something at least, for his gall to drive around
London in a Limo shouting through a megaphone `get out my way! I'm richer
than you!! Buy my single!!!'.
