1312.0. "Why are Erasure Crap?" by CHEFS::BARKERN (This town needs an enema) Tue Jul 18 1995 17:37

When I was last here I started a topic that seemed very popular for a
few days before it was set Nowrite.

The topic was no 1022. and I would like to know the answer to this
    question

Yawn! Talk about going over old ground again. Last time you raised this
one, it got bogged down in discussions around homophobia and ended up
being write-locked after the abuse level started to rise. Why not get
drunk with some friends - you do have friends, don't you :^) - and ask
them. I'm sure they'll give you the answer you're looking for.

Maybe the question should be;

"Why are you so obsessed with Erasure?"

I assume you were knocked back by one of them, or something. If you look at
other band notes, there are comments both for and against the bands (see Take
That, for example). A topic like this is completely pointless.

I don't think Erasure are particularly bad, they've produced some pretty
good songs. Can't stand 'em myself, though.

Sorry guys, I was a bit bored whilst chewing on my vegeburger at lunch
time today so I thought I'd just start an argument. Guess it didn't
    work.

Balders, you're probably right about my own recent experience. I
guess that deeply routed in my sub conscious I have immense amounts of
    jealousy.

Forget I mentioned it. Better still set this topic no write!

    lots of love and kisses

Nigel "I once played and wrote songs for Morgans who will probably go
on to be one of the most influencial bands in history, leaving me to
be a pathetic shell of the once musical giant that I may never have
become!!! (Or alternatively they could achieve nothing what soever and
I can feel smug within myself saying that if we were still as one we
could have gone on to take over the world)" B

Maybe the solution is to eat meat. Eat animals; they're good for your mind.

Helpfully,

Tell you what - I'll rise to the bait and defend both veggie burgers
    and Erasure.

Since I'm a raving veggie and have been for ohh, nigh on 9 years now -
long live veggie burgers - they're my saviour. I don't ask for much in
    life.

And secondly, I happen to like Erasure, they're a damn good group who
produce pretty groovy music. Saw them years ago at the Docklands and
they put on a brilliant stage show - probably the best I've seen (and I
have seen quite a few varying groups play live). BTW the Rolling
Stones were the worst - I only went as I was given a ticket.

To add to this conference - Jimmy Sommerville was good at the Oxford
Oppollo (maybe I just like raving woofters!)

I dislike both. I'm happy to defend the latter however, as I think they're
pretty good at what they do, and appear to be one of the better pop groups
to have appeared in years. But veggieburgers are a different matter, they
taste disgusting and are a complete waste of space anyway as other animals
were put on this Earth to be eaten, and very tasty they are too.

Chris.

The veg burgers I eat are very tasty thank you. Animals put on this
earth to be eaten? Almost as big a load of b******s as Erasure...

Reminds me of a beer festival at the old Sheffield Poly building - I
was with a veggie friend at the time, so she said "oh, there's the
burger van". Chris being slightly pished-up at the time and not in
control of his hearing aid wandered over there and said "got a double
cheese-burger please mate". I almost had to dive for cover as the
bloke yelled back - "Sorry, we only sell vegan produce".

    Ooops.

Re .13 - since when are veggie burgers made of beans??? I think
they're called bean-burgers!! If you had a clue what you were talking
about then you'd drop in words like soya, quorn and tofu. Ever tasted
the cheatin' ham? Tastes like luncheon meat, so much so my meat-eating
friends (including the cat) can't taste the difference!

I've eaten various things such as soya, tofu etc as well as the frankly
horrible nut cutlet and aubergine concoctions, and I still say you can't
beat a bit of dead animal for taste!

On a serious note, I'd be rather concerned about subjecting animals
which are primarily carnivores to vegitarian fayre, it won't do their
health any good in the long term.

Marvelous, I love it when an 'arguement' breaks out.

I must start these "why are ********crap? notes more often.

P.S. I'm not a veggie! Far from it, I'm the sort of chap who orders
veal in a Restaurant, takes one bite before saying "That is delicious,
but I couldn't eat another thing."

I've just come back from a weekend visiting relations in Yorkshire.
Yesterday morning I accompanied my uncle collecting 12 bulls from a
farm and delivering them to the abbatoir (you can't talk about
something until you've seen it yourself). Perhaps those meat eating
colleagues of ours should do the same as it just re-inforced my views
    on being a vegetarian.

How many of you see what happens to the "meat" before it lands on your
plate? I don't think you could stomach it once you've been to a
    slaughterhouse.

I don't particularly care. If there's a dead bird in my oven (bird as in
poultry...), then I'm quite happy. As long as it's not infected with anything,
I'll eat it. Tastes lovely.

The biggest problem you face with this argument is how many people
*care*? Not many, I would wager. Most "meat eating" people agree with
Matt. Just so long as its not diseased, its ok.
