692.0. "Lyric meanings" by IGETIT::BROWNM (En-ger-land!) Tue Jun 19 1990 12:56

    Can someone explain what the lyrics of `Blue Monday' are about. I have
    all sorts of visions of what it's all about, but it still doesn't fit
    together.

    Matty - don't get too uptight about it. They are not really about
    anything, although there is a vague tendency toward 'you've just left
    me, oh woe'.
    When New Order compose songs, the lyrics are usually left till last.
    Barney hates writing lyrics, and usually a 'guide vocal' of reasonable
    gibberish is left on the track right up until the last minute. In the
    case of 'every little counts', it was left on full stop!
    He probably just took a few isolated images of things that happened to
    him, and put together a few words. There is no great meaning.

on their record sleeves ?

   New Order like to keep a low profile and let their music speak
   for itself.

     and with tears, her eyes were sore,
     I did not know why.

   Well, it's a very nice love song, and I don't think Barney is gay.
   That's *my* opinion.

   '1963' has got to be in the Top 10 fave New Order songs. I've
   been listening to it for the past week and it's getting better
   each time I listen to it. Totally spellbinding.

   And anyway, whoever said that Barney writes all the lyrics.
   I know that Gillian, Steve and Peter write lyrics as well.

   Leave Barney alone!

692.13Got Any Veras?!?!UPROAR::PLOWMANDeverything you know is wrongThu Nov 25 1993 19:5610
    On the subject of "what the hell are they saying" my sister asked me
    today if I knew what "Veras" where - is it cockney rhyming slang for
    something? In Ebeneezer Good by The Shamen apparently he shouts out
    "Got any veras?" - at least that is apparently what it sounds like! I
    can't remember that bit myself - can anyone shed any light on this?!

    Thanks,
