Current Policy

o Please try to use upper and lowercase characters in your replies - all
capitals is considered shouting in Notes.

o Wherever possible, when you wish to start a new topic, try to ensure
that a similar note does not already exist - using the 'directory'
    command will help.

o Please try to keep replies to topics relevant to the basenote; any chat
can be done by mail - remember that others, apart from the person you
are 'talking' to, are reading this.

o If you have any questions about Notes, try using the 'help' command,
which is very comprehensive. Alternately, feel free to mail a moderator.

Will the small percentage of noters who insist on behaving like
children either grow up or stop noting here.

The moderators have received some complaints regarding some
of the notes entered here - for example, petty "you're wrong I'm
right" arguments, or ridiculous one-liner meaningless replies.

This conference is for MATURE discussion of music; the guidelines
stated in .1 of this note are to be adhered to; I, together with the
other moderators, do not want to get into heavy-handed moderating,
but if the present trend of purile attitudes continues, we will
    have no option.

To the minority: please grow up.

    	To everyone: please enjoy yourselves.

4.7V5 soon ?BISTRO::WARDMon Sep 26 1988 16:442
I'm sorry - HEART is one of these old-fashioned V4 machines and
is consequently considered second best to MARVIN ...
4.8LESLIE::LESLIEMon Sep 26 1988 19:041
Eh? Netupdate ran on V4 too!

I know - it's just we're country cousins on HEART at the moment.

HEART now has the 23-Sept-88 node database.

This is probably the most relevant topic...

Anybody know why the performance of ::UK_MUSIC has dropped so badly? Okay,
I know I'm impatient, but usual response times of more than 1 minute are
a bit much...

Where (physically) is Marvin? You'll probably find that it's some hub
in Reading or Valbonne playing up, or some security beast that's decided
to chew the network rug for a while, nothing to do with UK_MUSIC per se.

This is a WAG by the way, networks are not my forte, just going on past
experience and empirical evidence.

Chris, CHEFS seems to be handling it Okay. Why don't you route your access via
another node...?

It might just be that MARVIN is being hammered; it's in Reading, so
it's at the networking centre of the universe on this side of the
    Atlantic.

Oh well, whatever the problem was, it seems to have gone away again... now
I'll have to find something else to complain about...

There were some network problems with MARVIN last week - it's a
development node - but all is back to normal now.

    HI All...

    dumb question time.

Since All-in-1 is about to vanish, I guess I will have to access Notes
through Netnotes. But, I can't seem to get to UK_MUSIC, or most
others, since some 'magic switch' hasn't been set.

Are we going to be able to reach this conference through Netnotes? Is
there a better way to read notes from a PC? Should I write to a
moderator or a system manager? Any opinions?

    cheers

    Mike,

You may wish to look in UK_DIGITAL as someone has just asked that very
question. It's under the title Vaxnotes (or something equally obvious!)

Cheers...I'm not sure that I am allowed to use Teamlinks in my corner
of the world. I've been given this thing called Netnotes, which
can't see any conferences because of the 'magic switch' that I
    mentioned...

You could on the other hand just access the notes conferences
from your Web browser (is this the same as Netnotes?).

Current list of all conferences at:

		http://www-esn.lkg.dec.com/decnotes/

	UK_Music conference is at:

Cheers - I didn't know that. I'll give it a try later this morning...

Netnotes is a seperate application designed for looking at NOtes
conferences, which looks a little like the Teamlinks interface.
