1380.0. "Brand X touring" by KZIN::HUDSON (That's what I think) Thu May 15 1997 13:34

Last night I saw Brand X playing at London's Jazz Cafe. They are playing
concerts at a series of small venues across the UK in the next couple of
weeks.

The band consists of John Goodsall, Pierre Moerlen (sp?), Percy Jones and
Kris Sjobeng.

They played a fair selection of old stuff (from Unorthodox Behaviour, Product,
Masques and Moroccan Roll) as well as some stuff from a new album they have
out.

The old stuff was brilliant, the new stuff sounded not too bad, although it
was quite loud and so without being familiar with the material it wasn't
always easy to work out what was going on.

Well worth seeing if you like this sort of thing (jazz rock/fusion), I'd
say worth going just to see/hear PM playing drums....

Dates are:

	14-May	Jazz Cafe	London
	18-May	Alley Cat	Reading
	20-May	Irish Center	Leeds
	21-May	Music Box	Manchester
	25-May	Leadmill	Sheffield
	26-May	Zodiac Oxford
	27-May	Fleece & Firkin	Bristol
	28-May	Arts Center	Colchester

Gosh - any of the jazzy Gong stuff also? I haven't seen Pierre
Moerlen(sp?) since he played with Oldfield back in the eighties.

re: .1

No, no Gong stuff that I recognised. Although the encore ("we've done all
the Brand X stuff we like so now we'll play some covers") was pretty chaotic -
it could well have been that PM was playing some Gong while the others were
playing completely different things so far as I could tell.
