Still going as far as I am aware. They tend to have 'Stone Roses'-esque
tendencies as far as recording records are concerned.

    >Modern Romance ??

Have recently announced that they are reforming and are now confirmed
as a support act to The Sex Pistols at Finsbury Park.

    >Talk Talk ??

There is now a law banning these people from recording studios so
thankfully they are unable to force their sounds on an unsuspecting
    population.

Jane, Talk Talk were indeed from Southend. I am trying hard to feel
affronted by the Southend slagging, but failing dismally because it's
    probably true.

I shall have to take issue with your putting that note in and then
sneaking off home before I had a chance to see it and retaliate
    though....!

What's a closet "Shrimper"? Someone from the infamous South East Essex?
Leonie's claim to fame is that she was born there, I just suffered the
indignity of being forced to live there from the age of 2 to 27.

So Talk Talk came from Southend, East 17 are sort of Essex, Blur come
from Ilford (I think, correct me if I'm wrong). What other famous
    groups/singers come from Essex?

    Goldy.

    Goldy,
I defend your honour, and you as someone who has spent 25 years in
Southend have the nerve to ask "what is a "shrimper"?"! I despair!!!

1345.17VAXCAT::GOLDYSolvent goldfishTue Apr 16 1996 22:128
I only *lived* there (under sufferance), I was not a true Essex girl in
any sense of the phrase, I really dont' know what a Shrimper is.
However, I could wax lyrical about the cockle sheds down in Old Leigh,
they have marvellous brown shrimps down there, best eaten with the
heads and legs removed, on brown bread.

    Hth,
    Goldy.

Re Sundays,

Natalie Merchant has just (I think) released a solo album called Tiger Lily
(did you know that's what Ultravox used to be called in the early Foxx days?)
I only know this 'coz I was at a friend's house yesterday who's a bit of a
Sundays fan.

Chris.
1345.19You want me to note???CHEFS::DIVERLWed Apr 17 1996 03:1127

    re .14
Ah, but you see, Stretch, I prefer to save my energies for the odd,
really pungent note. Also, all the fascinating fluff I might feel
compelled to fill these pages with seems to find it's way in here
anyway without my assistance............okay, I'm a total lightweight.

I would rattle on about some of the bands my little brother's
photographed (hey! check out the new Vox and NME!), but that really
    would be very sad.

Jane, the Shrimps is the wildly inventive nickname of Southend utd.
Does this knowledge make me a true Essex girl?

Other bands from Essex - well, Depeche Mode are from Basildon, as is
Alison Moyet, and Vince Clarke has a bijou residence in Thorpe Bay.

Natalie Merchant? Wasn't she 10,000 Maniacs? Harriet Wheeler was
chanteuse with The Sundays. (Cue Mr Rutherford....)

Oh and yes I am indeed from Southend - or, to be more precise,
Shoeburyness (as immortalised in song by the Bard of Barking; just to
    keep the musical theme alive).

Phew - note over - 6 month sabbatical beckons!

    Leonie.

    	Chris,

What has Natalie Merchant got to do with the Sundays ?? She was in
10,000 Maniacs. BTW, Tiger Lily was realeased last year, to
'critical acclaim' but 'public ignomy', hence the re-release.

FWIW, Harriet Wheeler is the lead singer with the Sundays.

Oh and while I was channel hopping last night I stumbled across the
new(?) Natalie (ex 10,000 Maniacs) Merchant single. Not being a huge fan
of the Maniacs I will just say it sounded pretty much like their stuff
so if that "swings your pants" (Mikef tm) away you go!

The JAMC (or rather the Reid bros) are notoriously lazy gits hence the

P.S The last album (was it really that long ago?) is ok in a country
