1342.0. "Bluetones" by CHEFS::UKARCHIVING () Mon Jan 22 1996 13:36

I have for a while been enjoying Hounslow superstars The Bluetones. I
like most of what they have released, but fear I may be buying what
amounts to what the Stone Roses would have written if they had spent
five years chopping up Coke and stuffing it up their noses.

So...Bluetones, sad Stone Roses copyists, trading on the fact that the
lazy Mancunians last album was pony, or what?

Hmm...dunno about that. The two singles I have heard were good snappy
pop songs which didn't sound much like the Stone Roses to me. I shall
be investigating the album when its released. Possibly. Unless I
    don't.

The Bluetones sounded like Squeeze on acid at the Reading Festival, if
    thats any help.

Someone on some radion station said it was the albumn the Stone Roses
should have released after the Stone Roses....

    Can't see it myself though....

I like the Bluetones but the Stone roses are Head and Shoulders
    above...

I'm sorry - I am still struggling to see/hear the similarities between
The Bluetones and The Stone Roses. Maybe after I have heard the
    album...

the similarity comes mainly from the Gibson 335 - or an effects unit that
sounds like one if that's possible - and the layered guitar chords, on
to[p of that there's some pretty neat drumming and a slightly fake
    Manc accent.

Graham (BTW, I do like them !)

Personally, I think they are more like the Charlatans than the 'Roses,
    but there you go !!
