Apparently Robson & Jerome haven't been nominated for any categories
despite having two very successful singles in the charts last year.

    re 'Robason & Jerome':-

I just caught the end of the nominations on Radio 1 - basically, Blur
Oasis & Pulp have been nomiated for everything - and they were pointing
out that nominations are based on artistic merit, not commerical
success. Hence no Roboson & Jerome....

Well, they did say 'artistic merit' so it can't be
a surprise.

1340.13Who really cares about the Brits anyway ?????CHEFS::CROSSATue Jan 09 1996 16:5417
On Sky news last night one of the voting panel (400 industry types) was
explaining the reason for the nominations. The reason Robson &.... are
not nominated even though they apparently have had the fastest selling
album is because " they released an album of cover versions , BAD cover
versions "!!!, hence no nomination. Boo Hoo says I !!! I assume the
same applies in all other categories. Given the fact these votes are
placed by industry types it says a lot about the bands on various
rosters if only Blur and Oasis are slugging it out. Apparently
Radiohead have a few nominations as well. This is the industry patting
itself on the back and as such (and this is something past awards have
taken a panning for) does not reflect the punters veiws.

AND that ginger bufoon is presenting them AGAIN. Oh well another years
    Brits ignored.Ho hum

didn't get a look in there either, and rightly so !

On GMTV this morning it was a bit vague, you could just see a figure
jumping onto the stage where Michael Jackson's young friends were

one got thrown out of the way/fell off stage ? and the other was also

was attacking the children. No-one ever actually said Jarvis got up

After seeing last nights ridiculous mime by Mr jackson, I can only
applaude what Jarvis did, he should be knighted for highlighting what
complete and utter American, vomit worthy schmaltz we were subjected
to..who on earth advised MJ to do such a "hollywood" mime, with all
those stage school brats at a venue such as the Brits (bearing in mind
it's not the mid/late eighties any more) and the "bad boys" were there
as the press seem to call them.

I think Michael Jackson should be arrested for offensive portrayal of
himself as a Christ like being, and a long sentance for crimes against
taste..of which his show had none.

1340.53Justice for Jarvis - but what about Bjork!AYOV22::KKEARYWed Feb 21 1996 13:2914
I saw Bjork's attack on GMTV this morning and pretty violent it was
    too.

I certainly wouldn't like that coming towards me punching, kicking and
pulling my hair. The reporter tried to run away but Bjork kept
attacking her the only defence she put up was trying to hit Bjork with
her microphone. I do think some reporters deserve a beating now and
again but this looked way over the top.

Going back to Jarvis - Reeves and Mortimer picked him up at the police
station and took him back to their hotel where they held a "Justice for

I saw a clip of him on some show on BBC2 on Friday night. He was
talking through his reasoning for what he did and it came across very
well. He stated that he didn't hurt anyone and never intended to, but
purely to protest at the way MJ was personifying a Christ/healer like
persona. Good comment was that he agreed with the sentiments behind
Earth Song but singing a song and letting people touch MJ isn't going
to heal them or the problems being sung about.

    Mikef,
Sadly I have to confess to watching that ginger twit(oooopppss wrong
vowel!) on Friday as they said they would have an interview with El
Jarv...... 45 minutews later they have a chat via dodgy satellite link
(cr*p audio) and had the footage from the moment he got up on stage to
him leaving. Jarvis said it was down to Candida saying he would not
have the nerve to get up on stage and protest at the spectacle they
were witnessing. He did. Once up there he said he did not know what to
do so he turns round and wiggles his bum at the audience. One of the
dancers trys to grab him, he skips around a bit , avoids capture and
exits stage left! He then had two hours of questioning in his dressing
room while Wackos lawyers (all THREE of them) try to come up with
something to charge him with). He touchs no one during the whole thing.

Hmmm...sounds like Wacko needs taking down a peg or two. I was told
that Wacko made Geldof call him 'The King of Pop' or somesuch in his
    intro...

I'm waiting to see if Wacko's lawyers get charged with wasting Police
time on March 11th. Apparently, Jervis must be charged by then
otherwise tho whole thing will be dropped, so if they don't bring
any charges by then, surely they've wasted police time (and tax payers
    money !).

According to the breakfast show this morning, Bob Mortimer (who was a solicitor
up until the *repeats* of the first series of VRBNO) turned up to, in some legal
sense, take care of "J.C.", took one look at the Jackson legal empire, and left.

Fist of Fun was good on Friday too "Wherver there is, like, injustice, I, Jarvis
Cocker, will be there to, like, defend the Common People".

I read last night that Jarvis won't be charged with anything, though
was considering some civil thing against Jackos record company. Also
that there were scuffles between Jacko and Pulp fans.

I'm glad to hear that, although I'm surprised that The Weirdo's vast army of
lawyers gave up so easily. Still, at least the bad taste merchant didn't
triumph, anyway.

I think Jackos army of lawyers gave up cause they had nothing to charge
him with, based on the video evidence all he did was walk across the
stage and mess about a bit..as Jarvis said upsetting Michael Jackson
isn't against the law. Thought his press conference was quite funny,
especially his comment that he hopes Michael sorts himself out..Good
    decision there.

Oh well, another chance to see the Brits last night with the `controversial'
bits left in. Not really much more to see, except in Wacko's vomit inducing
performance, finally getting a chance to see Jarvis waving his bum at the
audience, and to see Oasis making complete arseholes of themselves.

Liam squaring up to Mike Huthence was quite a laff. As was Noels
comments about has beens, while the has been in question was stood next
to him! Jacko deserved a slap for that "performance". Fair play to
Jarvis indeed! oh and bonus points to Liam for refering to Chris Evans
(Richard head) in a less than complimentary manner i.e "It'll take more
than ginger bollox to get us off the stage!" etc etc
