1336.0. "Christmas Album - Mary's Boy Child - Help Please!!" by MROA::DUPUIS () Mon Nov 27 1995 22:44

I am looking for an album with the song Mary's Boy Child on it. I
believe the group was a english group called either Bonnie M or Boney
    M. I believe that it's pretty old and I know that I hav been unable
to find it in the any store in the states. Does any one have a copy of
this that they would be willing to part with or make a copy of for me?

    Thanks in advance,
    Roberta Dupuis

Don't have a copy of it, but just for info it was released by Boney M,
a West Indies group, and charted in the UK on 2nd december 1978. It was
in the charts for 8 weeks and got to number 1, and was backed with `Oh
My Lord'.

Chris (who has a copy of "Guinness' British Hit Singles" handy. :)

I've got it on one of those Christmas compilation tapes, a recording
    could be provided ...

    re -last,
Would he make me a copy? And is it all Cristmas music or did they play
    other stuff to?

    Thanks,
    Roberta

>And is it all Cristmas music or did they play other stuff to?

mainly other stuff, although in a similar vein. Very gospel based, more
notable tracks are stuff like `Rivers of Babylon' (nothing to do with the SF
series!) and `Ma Baker'. About a dozen hits in all (still have my Guinness
book handy, but I can't reach the light switch! :) in the late '70s.

They were German, and like Milli Vanilli, with whom they shared a producer,
had (mainly) different people doing the singing as they had for the performing:
the bloke with the huge afro never sang a note.

Hmmm...interesting Balders fact stashed away for possible embarrassing
    use during a certain speech...

Any more good Balders facts gratefully received!

I believe they were on a German record label, but I seem to remember
that at least one of the female singers was English.

I'm staying out of this one, I know nothing, I've seen nothing and I've
heard nothing. An admission to anything else could be
    self-incriminating in years to come...

I just want to thank everyone who replied to me hear and off line. A
local music store just called me to say they managed to get a greatest
hits cd and Mary's Boy Child is on it, they will hold it for me to pick
up (they called me becuase I left my name with them last year).

    Thanks again,
    Roberta
