Newquay Steam Lager Extra, and Guinness Bitter's not bad.

Oops wrong conference!

Last night I found myself in agreement with an Arsenal fan ( a very rare
experience as they are noted more for their anoraks than any semblance
of taste ), and we both thought that out "all time favourite single of
all time " was "Anarchy in the UK" by those cheeky chappies The Sex Pistols.

1310.3how about top 50 or so ?WOTVAX::STONEGTemperature Drop in Downtime Winterland....Thu Jul 13 1995 15:276

    Hmmm, difficult one this... it should really be something by The
    Church I think, but then I remembered 'Mersey Paradise' by The Stone
    Roses a timeless classic.

    Graham
1310.4Is Everybody Happy?CHEFS::UKARCHIVINGThu Jul 13 1995 15:346
    Almost impossible, final vote goes for Bulletproof!(Adrian Sherwood 7"
    mix) by Pop Will Eat itself. A brilliant loud, shouty, jumping about
    sort of thang.
    		 dickie.

    (least favourite of all time is What's Love Got To Do With It...)
1310.5SHIPS::RIOT01::SUMMERFIELDI am Number 6Thu Jul 13 1995 15:419
    A tough one this, but I managed to narrow it down to three:

    The Order of Death - Public Image Ltd
    Atomic               - Blondie
    World Leader Pretend - REM

    I guess if push came to shove, I'd settle for World Leader Pretend.

    Balders
1310.6WOTVAX::GILLILANDPI've been mad for ******* yearsThu Jul 13 1995 15:474
    Very difficult to choose innit? I suppose it would have to be The
    Stranglers and No More Heroes, though I rarely listen to it these days.

    Phil Gill.
1310.7Retromania roolz...VARESE::SACHA::IDC_BSTROh no! NOT Milan Kundera again!Thu Jul 13 1995 16:014
    "Till The End Of The Day" by the Kinks. The only fault I can find with
    it is that's it's too short by about a minute.

    Dom

    ohhh....difficult.

    Anarchy in the UK... Love will tear us apart... Rip it up...

    can change from day to day tho.

                                                       ^^^^^^^^^

    a great song, I was trying to explain the significance of Edwyn
    Collins' new single to some people at the w/e; 'You know he _was_ Orange
    Juice,', 'Who?', 'Orange Juice, they did that great track, Rip It Up',
    'Never heard of it' , '$%^%&%^& heathens !'....

    ... then it came on the Radio ! and from the blank look on the peoples
    faces I could believe they'd never heard it before %^/

    Graham
1310.10AYOV27::FW_TEMP01J Hussey - Down in DunureThu Jul 13 1995 17:2411
Have to say Edwyn Collins is jolly good esp live. Saw him twice at the
Mean Fiddler about 4/5 years ago. Great nights and only 30 min walk home
then (about 8hr drive now!). Why do they have such a fabulous venue in
a transport desert?

PS.  My faves are usually:

Ain't Nobody - Rufus & Chaka Khan
Say Hello, Wave Goodbye - Soft Cell
In the Ghetto - Nick Cave

    Why not ask a simple question like "Why are we here?"

    Has to be Rebel Rebel but this is closely followed by Wish by Nine inch
    Nails.

    Other contenders:

    Down by the Water Polly Harvey
    20th Century Boy T Rex
    Don't Dream It's Over Crowded House
    Come into our house - The Morgans (avail on Diversity Records on 7" Gate
    fold and CD formats!)

    The list is nigh on endless.

    Yes ! I've always wanted to be asked this question, don't know why,
    must be getting sadder by the day.

    Absolute Beginners - The Jam

    Marked the beginning of their final musical phase, 3 minutes of musical
    brilliance and it evokes so many memories. Most people will remember
    other Jam tracks before this one but for me this is the one, with about
    200 others very close behind.
1310.14CBHVAX::CBHLager LoutThu Jul 13 1995 20:044
for me, it'd be just about anything by the rock bands of the early 70s,
or the dodgy synth pop bands of the early '80s.

Chris.

Haven't got a clue what my all-time favourite is. I don't think I have one.
There are a few songs that I can go back to again and again, indifferent
genres, so I guess we're talking about;

Pictures of Matchstick men - Status Quo
Anything off of Reign in Blood - Slayer
Dead end street/Waterloo Sunset - The Kinks
Hey Jude - The Beatles
Dalliance - The Wedding Present
Here comes your man - The Pixies

....oh this is stupid, I'll be here all day...
1310.16CBHVAX::CBHLager LoutFri Jul 14 1995 14:2116
Okay, more realistic attempt, leaving out current faves:

Going Underground - The Jam
Smash it Up - The Damned
Overkill - Motorhead
Transylvania - Iron Maiden
Street Creature - Toyah
Images - Hawkwind
Ivo - Cocteau Twins
Over To You - Black Sabbath
Hymn - Ultravox
Got to be Gordon's - The Macc Lads

etc,

    "But what could be better than a saucy Irish Setter,
    When Puppy Love comes on strong" 8^)

    Marvelous

    I took a peek through my singles collection yesterday and came up with
    two singles both in the charts at the same time:

    World Shut your mouth! St Julian of Cope
    Pretty in Pink by The Furs

    How could I forget these.

    Also wasn't a single but:

    Will I ever understand you? Berlin (count three and pray)

    Awesome.

    On a more recent note.

    "Give it away" is an all time classic

    As is "Lithium" Both of which deserve to be in the Hall of Fame!

    It would have to be "Orange Crush" by REM.

    However, there are numerous classic songs that would make my All-Time

    Towm called Malice - The Jam
    Lets stay Together - Al Green
    Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding
    So Lonely - The Police
    How soon is now - The Smiths
    Fascination Street - The Cure
    She Sells Sanctuary - The Cult

    Paint it Black - Rolling Stones
    Kennedy - The Wedding Present
    Tony's Theme - The Pixies
