1245.0. "Mazzy Star" by HERO::INNS (Patch Builders of the World Unite !) Mon Sep 26 1994 16:34

    Hi,

I recently purchased an album by Mazzy Star called 'So Tonight that I
might see'. I took a gamble on buying it as I didn`t really know much
about them - I had just heard one of there songs...

I do like the album and I was wondering if anyone knew much about them ?
e.g. how long they have been playing, how many other albums they have
done, whether their other albums are similiar in style to the one
    above...

Any info would be greatly appreciated...

    Cheers,

    Nick

They've done two albums, their lead singer is extremely gorgeous (that is if
it's still that gorgeous woman), and they've been about (that I know of) for
about 3 years (?)

Don't know much about them either, but they're quite good, and the press are
starting to get interested in them.

In the amazing-coincidence news, I am listening to a tape of that
very record right this instant. This tape is a backup copy of a CD
owned by Piers rutile::Letcher, and I know he has their first record
too, so perhaps he'll tell you more if he finds a moment in his
packed schedule.

You a bit of a depressive sort, then? This is not party music!

1245.3My thoughts on the album...HERO::INNSPatch Builders of the World Unite !Mon Sep 26 1994 19:5514

Well I have to admit to being a depressive sort every now and again...

Also I wanted a change - I was bored of most of the music I was
listening to - and I wanted a breath of fresh air so to speak...
Its certainly a change. I was expecting something along the lines
Disintegration by The Cure (especially Plainsong). I suppose they are
not too dis-similiar... Although I would say Mazzy Star tends to be a
    bit slower...

I was trying to figure out the lyrics - which is
difficult as they are not on the album sleeve and they are not easily
deciphered from the song itself.. I guess I'll just have to keep
    listening... !

"So Tonight That I Might See" is mazzy Star's latest release -- about
a year old. Their first release "She Hangs Brightly" is a better album
IMHO. Hope Sandoval is Mazzy Star's lead singer, and she is rather
    attractive :)

    cheers,

I've been listening to a compilation CD recently which has 'Into Dust'
on it. A somewhat haunting track, which I can't stop listening to, is
the the rest of their stuff like this ?? If so what's recommended as my
    first Mazzy Starr purchase ?

BTW, Mr Moderator there seem to be two Mazzy Starr notes (814 and this
one) and it is 'Starr', not 'Star' as in the title to this note.
