1158.0. "UK Ad music, anyone know them ??" by MIACT::RANKINE () Mon Jun 21 1993 22:52

Can anyone help me with the music currently being used to advertise car
    tyres in the UK ??

The 1st ad is for Pirelli where a tasty young lady convinces the
chaffeur (sp) to stop at the roadside, so that she can get out and
drive the car. The music has a good baseline, and a female
singing, but not with any noticable lyrics. The music is quite
    dramatic and is almost 4AD-ish.

The 2nd ad is a great ad for Dunlop tyres using an old track, whos name
and artist escapes me...The main lyric is 'Shiny, Shiny"....my guess is
Velet Underground.. but Im bound to be wrong.

Can anyone tell me anything about them ??

    Thanks
    PAul

Dunno anything about the music but your 'tasty lady' is Sharon Stone of
"Basic Instinct" fame. Pirelli, women: no surprises there.

I don't live ib the UK at the mo, but I would think the 'Shiny, Shiny...'
one would be Venus in Furs , by the Velet Underground. Does it have squeaky
violins and drony noises in it ? Come to think of it, it does not fit in with
the style of music you would normally associate with cars/tyres.

Indeed it is `Venus in furs', and that advert surely must win the most
    spectacular-but-ridiculous award for the year.

Don't know about the other one though.

.... You're right Rob, it is 'Venus in Furs' by the Velvet Underground,
don't know what the other one is though.....

BTW, The Velvet Underground are playing at Glastonbury on Friday....

1158.5more questions..do I ever stop ??MIACT::RANKINETue Jun 22 1993 20:3716
    RE last few.

THanks guys, I knew the music for the dunlop ad was a minor classic..I
just couldnt remember what it was, but I did guess right at being the
Velvets....wonders will never cease. Anyone know what album/CD Venus
    appears on ??

Having seen the TOTAL ad a few times now...they are now showing only
bits of it...it takes a few watches B4 I became clear on the 'story'.
Its a very elaborate, and well made ad, I dread to think of what it
    cost to make....
    Cheers
    Paul

ps re the Pirelli ad ..apologies for any 'sexism' in describing the
female gender person appearing in it ....

Venus in Furs is on Andy Warhol's V.U. featuting Nico (double lp),
and probably a few others too. I leant this album to someone when I
was at school, and never got it back - you may not be able to get it
on vinyl anymore.

HInt for the none too wise...

Don't drive listenning the the Belvetunderground LP White Light, esp
the track Sister Ray. I did yesterday, and its sooo hypnotising, your
speed creeps up well over legal, over lose of licence, and you just
want to drive into a bridge or something and wipe yourself out.

But then maybe I was just having one of thise days.

You can, but not double, and minus the banana peel sticker.
1158.9Nissan Micra ad?MILE::JENKINSMon Aug 21 1995 18:1414

    An old note but ....

Does anyone know what the music is that is being used for the Nissan
Micra ad? The ad starts with a stuntman being burnt, then driving
home in 'her' Micra and then 'him' being shoved through the upstairs
window and falling into the pool. Punchline is 'Ask before you borrow
    it'.

I know it's a single (at least) coz I heard it on the radio yesterday -
but for all the chat, there was no artist or title given.

    Ta, Richard.
